IT Business Management Suite 1 Requirements and Configuration IT Business Management Suite must meet specific hardware, software, and operating system requirements. You can optimize the value of the initial hardware and software investments and provide the option to scale up in the future. This chapter includes the following topics: Software and Hardware requirements, on page 7 Running IT Business Management in a Virtual Environment, on page 10 Software and Hardware requirements Your computer must meet minimum software and hardware requirements to install IT Business Management Suite. IT Business Management is 100% compliant with the J2EE standard. This allows the product to support a wide range of deployment options. IT Business Management Suite can be installed on a Windows Server, and can be deployed on a Linux Server and on a wide range of UNIX environments including Oracle Solaris, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS and more. In turn, this ability of IT Business Management Suite to be deployed on a wide range of platforms ensures it fits rigorous enterprise requirements. To ensure optimum performance, you must deploy the database server on one computer and the application server on an another computer for IT Business Management installation. The hardware and software requirements varies based on the purpose of the computer for installing the database server, for deploying the application server or for end user access. The IT Business Management Suite deployment includes a database server and an application server. Both components of IT Business Management can run on a single computer but this approach is costlier, because a single computer requires more number of CPUs to run both the database and the application server. You pay for the database license per CPU. If you have a site license for the database management software, you can use a single computer to run both database and application servers. In a production environment the system needs a server for the database and a separate server for the application server. System requirements for production environments are higher from those for development environments. VMware, Inc. 7
