Installation instructions for PPD files for Windows Other Windows applications Installation instructions for PPD files for Windows Introduction This section describes how to install printer drivers with the use of PPD files. You can only use PPD files for PostScript printers. PPD is an abbreviation of PostScript Printer Description. A PPD file describes the capabilities of a PostScript printer. You must use PPD files in combination with a PostScript driver. In Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 you can use the default PostScript driver of your Windows operating system. In Windows 9x, Windows ME and Windows NT you can use the Adobe PostScript driver. Before you begin Start your system. Log on to your system with administrator rights. Retrieve the appropriate PostScript driver for PPD files. You can use an Adobe PostScript driver or a Windows PostScript driver. You can download the Adobe PostScript driver for free at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/. You can find the Windows PostScript driver on the Windows installation CD. Besides the PostScript driver, you need the Océ PPD file for your printer. You can download this Océ PPD file at http://www.oce.com. How to install the PPD file with the Adobe PostScript driver 1. Browse to the directory where you put the Adobe PostScript driver. 2. Double-click the installation programme to start the installation. 3. Follow the standard installation procedure until you reach the printer selection. Note: Do not use the generic PostScript printer. 4. Use the 'Browse' option to browse to the appropriate PPD file. 5. Select the correct printer. 6. Follow the procedure to finish the installation. Note: This procedure can require a restart of your computer. 4
Installation instructions for PPD files for Windows How to install the PPD file with the Windows driver 1. Use the 'Add Printer' wizard to install the PPD file. 2. When the system asks for the type of printer, click 'Have Disk' and browse to the location of the PPD file. 3. Select the.inf file, then click 'OK'. 4. Select your printer, then click 'Next'. 5. Follow the standard procedure. Note: This installation requires the Windows installation CD. 5
