Release Notes Color Controller E-41/E-81, version 1.0 This document contains important information about this release. Be sure to provide this information to all users before proceeding with the installation. NOTE: This document uses the term E-41/E-81 to refer to the Color Controller E-41/E-81. System software Fiery Printer Delete Utility To install the Fiery Printer Delete Utility on a Windows 2000 system, copy the Printer Delete Utility folder from the User Software DVD onto the Windows 2000 system, and then run the Installer in the folder. Installing and uninstalling ICC profiles on Windows On Windows Vista, if you right-click an ICC profile that is installed at C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color, Install Profile displays in the shortcut menu, even though the profile is already installed. On Windows XP, if you right-click an ICC profile that is installed at C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color and select Uninstall Profile from the shortcut menu, the ICC profile is not uninstalled. You must remove the file manually. Microsoft Hotfix If you observe one or more of the following issues, contact Microsoft to apply the appropriate Hotfix. You configure User Authentication from the copier/printer control panel to restrict the printing of color jobs, but color jobs are printed. When you print a job from Microsoft Excel 2007, pages are blank, even though the same jobs are printed correctly from Microsoft Excel 2003. Printing Printing jobs when Booklet Finisher SR5000 is installed on the copier/printer If Booklet Finisher SR5000 is installed on the copier/printer and you select one of the following combinations of punch type and paper weight settings in the printer driver, the job does not print: Two Holes, Paper Weight 5 Three Holes, Paper Weight 5 Copyright 2010 Electronics for Imaging, Inc. Part Number: 45092055 30 September 2010 *45092055*

Page 2 Printing jobs when Booklet Finisher SR5020 is installed on the copier/printer If Booklet Finisher SR5020 is installed on the copier/printer and you select one of the following combinations of staple and paper weight settings in the printer driver, the job does not print. 2 at Center, Paper Weight 5 2 at Center, Paper Weight 6 2 at Center, Paper Weight 7 Printing jobs when Booklet Processor is installed on the copier/printer If Booklet Processor is installed on the copier/printer and you select the following combination of staple and paper type settings in the printer driver, the job does not print. 2 at Center, Prepunched Printing jobs when a Z-Folding Unit is installed on the copier/printer If a Z-Folding Unit is installed on the copier/printer and you select the Tabstock paper type setting or certain paper weight settings in the printer driver, the job does not print. Affected paper weight settings: Paper Weight 1 Paper Weight 3 Paper Weight 4 Paper Weight 5 Paper Weight 6 Paper Weight 7 Tab printing When you print two lines of text on a tab, the second line of text may not print correctly. To avoid this problem, choose a smaller text size. Imposed PDF files Imposed PDF files may not print properly when you use the Archive Adobe PDF to Disk feature. The job s duplex settings may not be applied. Color printing Even when printing with only one color, such as magenta, the E-41/E-81 may perform a full color count. To count up by single colors (C, M, Y, K), set the Print by Color Selection option to select the color(s).

Page 3 Microsoft Excel If you print to A4 paper size from Microsoft Excel (2003 or 2007), the application might automatically resize your job to Letter size. If this occurs, turn off the appropriate resizing option: Excel 2003: Clear the Allow A4/Letter paper resizing option under Tools > Options on the International tab. Excel 2007: Clear the Scale content for A4 or 8.5x11'' paper sizes option in Excel Options > Advanced under the General heading. Printing jobs when HDD capacity is insufficient When the available space on the E-41/E-81 HDD (hard disk drive) is insufficient, the system may not operate normally. From the copier/printer control panel, or from Command WorkStation, verify the available HDD space and make sure that enough memory is available. If the available HDD space is insufficient and the system fails to operate normally, cycle power on the E-41/E-81 and the copier/printer, and then delete unneeded print jobs that are stored on the HDD. Printing Adobe Acrobat PDF jobs with inserted blank pages When you print a Landscape PDF job that has an inserted blank page before page 1, the job is printed with Portrait orientation, and may not be stapled correctly. This is a known issue with Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9. In Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9, orientation is set to Portrait, even if you change the document s orientation to Landscape in Adobe Acrobat Page Setup. In Adobe Acrobat 10, the orientation value is correctly set to Landscape. If the job is properly set up as Landscape in Adobe Acrobat Page Setup, the inserted blank page before page 1 is Landscape, and the job is printed correctly. Printing jobs from Adobe InDesign When you print a Landscape job with Short Edge Feed (SEF) paper specified from Adobe InDesign, the job is rotated 180 degrees. If the job is processed and held in Command WorkStation and then previewed, the job has the correct rotation. This is a known issue with the Adobe InDesign application.

Page 4 Printing on different media If you print a job for which the specified media is not loaded in any tray, and then select the specific tray at the copier/printer control panel when the copier/printer requests you to load the media, the copier/printer prints all copies of the job. E-41/E-81 User Authentication If the E-41/E-81 is configured for User Authentication and you print a color document in color mode as a user with only black-and-white printing privileges, the document is printed in black and white. Alternate tray must have same feed direction The E-41/E-81 will not switch to an alternate tray (for example, when the current tray runs out of paper) if the alternate tray does not feed paper in the same direction as the current paper tray, even if the paper size and paper type are same. Editing address books To edit an e-mail address book on the E-41/E-81, use e-mail commands sent to the E-41/ E-81. You cannot edit an address book from the copier/printer control panel. For more information about managing address books using e-mail commands, see Configuration and Setup. Address book Display Name and Email Address Although the maximum Display Name and Email Address length is 80 characters, you can enter more than 81 characters for Display Name and Email Address when you add an e-mail address to an address book on the E-41/E-81 through an e-mail command. No error message appears. Job Properties and Pages Per Sheet In Job Properties, in the Layout window, the Pages Per Sheet settings appear dimmed, except for 1, but you can select an unavailable setting. If you click OK in the dialog box that appears, the setting no longer appears dimmed. Number of copies in non-collated jobs For non-collated jobs with multiple copies, the number of copies displayed in Command WorkStation and on the copier/printer control panel is not increased until the copies of the last page are printing. However, since the display is updated at a specific time interval, you might not see every copy number. For example, the display might jump from 1 copy to 4 copies.

Page 5 Printing jobs when a Large Capacity Tray is installed on the copier/printer When a Large Capacity Tray (LCT) is installed on the copier/printer, you can select the following combinations of Input Tray, Paper Type, and Paper Weight settings in the printer driver, but the job does not print: Input Tray Paper Type Paper Weight Combination 1 Tray 3 Coated-Glossy, Coated-Matte, or Labels Combination 2 Tray 4 Coated-Glossy or Coated-Matte Combination 3 Tray 5 Coated-Glossy, Coated-Matte, or Tabstock Paper Weight 6 or Paper Weight 7 Paper Weight 6 or Paper Weight 7 Paper Weight 5, Paper Weight 6, or Paper Weight 7 Copying and pasting unsupported characters in Document Server Password field Only numbers are supported in the Document Server Password field in Command WorkStation. If you copy and paste unsupported characters into this field and print a job, an error message appears, and your job does not print. Adobe PageMaker When you open Job Properties in Command WorkStation for a job printed with the Adobe PageMaker PPD, specified values may not display correctly. Printing with Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) When printing with the Enable Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) option selected, RIPping may take longer than expected, and images may not print correctly. If this occurs, disable the option and try to print again. Quick Doc Merge jobs If Quick Doc Merge is performed for a job that contains print data in the Landscape orientation, the data prints correctly, but it does not display properly in the Impose Thumbnail view. Interposer tray The copier/printer may not automatically detect the paper size designated for the Interposer Upper tray. This may occur if the copier/printer is configured for a particular region, for example, EU vs. North America. If the copier/printer does not detect paper size automatically, you must specify the paper size for the Interposer tray in the printer driver paper settings.

Page 6 System Update and printing System Update reboots the E-41/E-81, regardless of any job that might be printing. Do not print a job while System Update is running. Do not run System Update while printing or schedule System Update to run at a time when you will be printing. Rush Printing If Rush Printing is selected when a job is processing (RIPping), the Rush Printing job starts after the first job is processed. Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 When you print from Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 and set Print What to Notes Pages, the job might take a long time to print. Deleting documents in Document Server Do not delete any documents stored in the Document Server during printing. Printing from a USB device Automatic printing from a USB device does not work if the USB device is already connected to the E-41/E-81 when the E-41/E-81 starts up. You must connect the USB device to the E-41/E-81 after the E-41/E-81 reaches Idle. Activity list If more than one job has Printing status and you cancel one of the jobs by right-clicking the job from the Activity list, the wrong job might be canceled. Instead, cancel the job from the Active Jobs area (right-click the job and choose Cancel). Mismatch Action = Suspend for a large job When Mismatch Action = Suspend is selected, if the paper required for a job is not loaded in the copier/printer and the job is larger than 500 pages, an error message appears in Command WorkStation and on the copier/printer control panel. However, it takes time to display the message and the E-41/E-81 will not reboot. Printer drivers Printing Adobe Acrobat PDF files If you use the PCL 6 printer driver to print Adobe Acrobat PDF files by specifying Custom Paper Size, files are rotated 90 degrees when they are printed. To make sure that the files are printed facing in the correct direction, switch the Width and Length values for Custom Paper Size in the printer driver, and then print the files. If you are using Adobe Acrobat 8 or later, specify the same size for Document and Paper, which are displayed in Preview: Composite in the Print dialog box.

Page 7 64-Bit Windows printer drivers Job Monitor is not supported on 64-bit Windows operating systems. Setting up Installable Options in printer drivers To view the correct installation options in Point and Print printer drivers, you need to set up the E-41/E-81. TO SET UP THE E-41/E-81 TO VIEW INSTALLABLE OPTIONS 1 Log on to the E-41/E-81 using Windows XP Remote Desktop. For information about enabling Remote Desktop, see Configuration and Setup. 2 Right-click the Print queue. 3 Select Properties. 4 Click the Configuration tab. 5 Verify that the Printer IP address is localhost. 6 Click Update. 7 Click OK to close the Printer Properties dialog box. 8 Repeat steps 2 7 to set up the Hold queue and set up Direct connection printing. For more information about configuring and setting up the E-41/E-81, see Configuration and Setup. Installing the printer driver on 64-bit Windows computer from a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 Server If your network users print to the E-41/E-81 using Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) print sharing, and you have 64-bit Windows XP users on your network, you must add the 64-bit printer driver to the Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) computer, so that users can install the printer driver on their computers using Point and Print. We do not recommend installing the printer driver from a Server (32-bit) to Client (64-bit). When you install the 64-bit printer driver to Server (32-bit), the Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) CD is required.

Page 8 TO ADD THE 64-BIT PRINTER DRIVER TO A 32-BIT WINDOWS SERVER 2003 COMPUTER 1 Install the E-41/E-81 printer driver on the Windows Server 2003 computer. For instructions, see Printing. During the installation, when asked if you want to share the printer, select Yes. 2 In the Printer & Faxes window, right-click the printer that you just installed and choose Properties. 3 Click the Sharing tab and click Additional Drivers. 4 Select the x64 components and click OK. 5 Browse to the printer driver files and select the oemsetup.inf file. 6 When prompted, insert the Windows Server 2003 x64 Installation CD on the Windows Server 2003 computer. 7 On the CD, browse to the AMD64 folder and click OK. The printer driver installation is complete. Installing the PCL printer driver with Point and Print If you use Point and Print to install the PCL printer driver on a user s Windows 7 computer, the settings specified on E-41/E-81 PCL printer driver are not reflected on the user s Windows 7 computer. If this occurs, specify the printer drivers settings on the user s computer. Configuring Installable Options If you install the printer driver from Add Printer Wizard and then use Two-Way Communication to configure the Installable Options, the Installable Options will not be configured properly. To properly configure these options, do the following after you install the printer driver. TO CORRECTLY CONFIGURE INSTALLABLE OPTIONS 1 After you install the printer driver, open the printer driver Properties. 2 Click OK or Apply.

Page 9 Print options Half z-fold The following table describes printed results with various combinations of Portrait and Landscape orientations, A3 and A4 paper sizes, and Half z-fold settings. Results may vary, depending on your operating system and the application that you use. Some combinations of settings are not supported. Page combination Half z-fold (Large Paper Only = On) Rotate 180 = Off Half z-fold (Large Paper Only = On) Rotate 180 = On A3 A4 When you specify an A3/Half z-fold/ landscape page followed by an A4/ non-folded/landscape page...... your output prints as shown.... your output prints as shown. A3 A 4 When you specify an A3/Half z-fold/ landscape page followed by an A4/ non-folded/portrait page...... your output prints as shown.... your output prints as shown. A 4 A3 When you specify an A4/non-folded/ portrait page and an A3/Half z-fold landscape page...... your output prints as shown.... your output prints as shown.

Page 10 Page combination Half z-fold (Large Paper Only = On) Rotate 180 = Off Half z-fold (Large Paper Only = On) Rotate 180 = On Not supported. A3 A 4 When you specify an A3/Half z-fold/ portrait page and A4/ non-folded/ portrait page...... your output prints as shown. Not supported. A4 A3 When you specify an A3/Half z-fold/ portrait page and A4/ non-folded/landscape page...... your output prints as shown. Not supported. A4 A3 When you specify an A4/non-folded/ landscape page and an A3/Half z-fold/ Portrait page...... your output prints as shown. Nested Saddle booklet If you print a Nested Saddle booklet, the booklet is composed of complete saddles (you set the size of the saddle by setting Number of sheets in a subset ). This may cause blank pages to be added to the end of the booklet, depending on the number of pages in the document. Insert Tabs and Tab Shift In Command WorkStation, if you use the Insert Tabs feature to add tab pages to a job and specify the text to be printed on the tab, you must also select the Tab Shift option on the Media tab in Job Properties. For more information about the Insert Tabs feature, see Utilities.

Page 11 Mixed Media finishing sets with Insert Blank If you specify finishing sets for each chapter in a stapled Mixed Media job, and then insert a blank page before each selected chapter, the job is output with the wrong stapling sets. Limitations of Booklet Maker The following are limitations of Booklet Maker: The Scale and Scale to Fit options (on the Layout tab of the Job Properties window) are not applicable when using Booklet Maker settings for a job. Booklet Maker settings cannot be specified for an Adobe PDF file with security settings. Input Tray The Input Tray option appears blank if you select Command WorkStation job properties on a job that was sent from Adobe PageMaker 7 with default print properties. Impose on Document Server You cannot save an imposed job in Document Server. Document Server does not support Impose. Properties of queued jobs When displaying the job properties of a queued job in Command WorkStation for which the paper is specified as the custom paper size, the width and height of the paper size might not display correctly. However, the job prints correctly. Image Shift, saving PDF or PS files When you set Image Shift with duplex settings, save the file as a PDF or PS, and then print the file, the job prints single-sided, without the Image Shift settings. If you print with the settings from the driver without saving the file as PS or PDF, the job prints with the correct settings. Maximum Entries in LDAP search If you enable an LDAP server and set Maximum Entries to 0, the number of entries is unlimited or is limited to the maximum specified in the LDAP server. If you set Maximum Entries to a number greater than 0, LDAP searches will return two results for each entry (one for the users and one for the group). Stapling with mixed page orientations Before printing a stapled job that contains both Portrait and Landscape pages, set Bypass Tray Priority on the copier/printer control panel to the input tray that is set for LEF (long edge feed).

Page 12 Job List screen If more than one job is scheduled that includes printing and copying, do not use the Job List screen. Duplex printing and orientation In applications that use a PPD, such as Adobe PageMaker, if print orientation is set to Landscape, and two-sided printing (duplex) is turned on, the data may not print in the selected orientation. To print two-sided, Landscape documents, use the following procedure. TO PRINT DUPLEXED LANDSCAPE DOCUMENTS 1 Open the application s Printer Settings dialog box. 2 Set the Orientation Override option to match the orientation of the job that you want to print. 3 Print the document. NOTE: You can also use Command WorkStation to open the job s print properties. On the Layout tab, set Orientation Override to match the job s orientation. Mixed Media When the Mixed Media option is set for a RIPped print job, changing the job properties will cause the job to be re-ripped, even if the changes are ones that do not normally require re- RIPping, such as changing the number of prints. Adobe Acrobat In Adobe Acrobat 7 or 8, if the Page Scaling option is set to Shrink oversized pages to paper size and Auto-rotate and center pages is selected, some data may not be printed. To avoid this problem, access the printer driver and select Scale to Fit on the Layout tab before printing. File Search Path in Job Properties In Job Properties on Mac OS X, the File Search Path option lets you type the search path. There is no option that allows you to browse for the path, as in Command WorkStation on Windows. In Job Properties on Windows, if you browse for the File Search Path option, the location that you select must be mapped to a network drive. Otherwise, an error occurs.

Page 13 Mac OS X Remote Scan version 5.x on Mac OS X To quit Remote Scan version 5.x on a Mac OS X computer, use your mouse to close the Remote Scan application window. You cannot quit the application from the main menu or by pressing Command+Q. Paper Source on Mac OS X In the Mac OS X printer driver, the Paper Source option does not select the input tray for printing. To select the input tray, choose Fiery Features > Full Properties and set the Input Tray option. Mac OS X printer driver and number of copies In the Mac OS X printer driver, the Copies field in the Job Info window of Fiery Features is read-only. To change the number of copies, select Copies & Pages from the printer driver main window (instead of Fiery Features). Fiery Graphic Arts Package If the Fiery Graphic Arts Package is installed in the E-41/E-81, the name of the file output when printing the Preflight Report is different on Windows and Mac OS. In Mac OS, the file name does not contain the job name. For example, the file names displays as follows: On Windows: Preflight Report: job name On Mac OS: Preflight Report Paper Catalog Associating Paper Catalog entries to paper trays In the Fiery Paper Catalog or Pro C901/C901S Catalog workflow, an entry is associated with a specific paper size; it is not set to auto paper size detection. If the tray is loaded with a different paper size, a paper jam occurs. Registering new catalog entries When you create a new catalog entry in Paper Catalog in Command WorkStation, the name must not exceed 38 characters. If you enter a name with more than 38 characters, only the first 38 characters are registered. Color settings Output Profile Settings incorrectly described in Help If the Output Profile print option is set to Use Media Defined Profile, the E-41/E-81 selects an output profile for the job based on the Paper Catalog setting. The Front Color Profile and Back Color Profile settings associated with the Paper Catalog setting are used for printing on the front and back sides, respectively, of a sheet. You cannot set the association between a paper selection and an output profile in Output Profile Settings in Command WorkStation. This is incorrectly stated in Command WorkStation Help.

Page 14 Preview of color job In the Preview window of Command WorkStation, a color job that was printed from Microsoft Word 2003 might display as partly black-and-white and partly color. If you preview the same document printed from Microsoft Word 2007, this does not occur. If the job is RIPped, the preview image is all black-and-white, showing how it will print. Scanning Default scan file format values The default scan file format values for Remote Scan and the Scan tab in the copier/printer control panel are as follows: When the Program as Default function setting is not specified (Factory defaults) When the Program as Default function setting is specified File format value for Scan tab in control panel Set value of Default scan file format in E-41/E-81 Setup Set value in Program as Default File format value for Remote Scan Set value of Default scan file format in E-41/E-81 Setup Split Mode with Remote Scan When you use Split Mode settings with Remote Scan, Remote Scan may not complete the scan. To complete the scan job, push the # key on the copier/printer control panel. Remote Scan in Adobe Acrobat 8 If you scan an image in Adobe Acrobat 8 on Mac OS X using the Remote Scan plug-in and the resulting image is truncated on the right, scan with the Make Searchable and Make Accessible (Run OCR) option cleared. Remote Scan character limits Some of the character limits described in Fiery Remote Scan Help are incorrect. The correct limits are as follows: In Windows, you can enter up to 216 single-byte characters for the file name (or 215 single-byte characters if an extension is displayed in the File Name field). In Mac OS, you can enter up to 255 single-byte characters for the file name. When you scan a hard disk, if the file name is omitted, no hard disk scan is performed. You can enter up to 32 bytes for the FTP site log-on password. You can enter up to 80 single-byte characters for the Subject in an e-mail scan or Internet fax description. You can enter up to 32,767 single-byte characters in an e-mail scan message.

Page 15 Maximum scan size The maximum scan file size is 2 GB. If you scan a document that results in a file larger than 2 GB, no error message is displayed in Remote Scan or the copier/printer control panel. The scan file is created, but has a size of 0 bytes. If you scan a document with a file size of 2 GB or larger, the file is not sent to the FTP site and the disk on the SMB network. In addition, it is not displayed in the Command WorkStation Print queue. System Settings not available while scanning When the copier/printer is scanning, the User Tools button on the copier/printer control panel is unavailable and you cannot access the System Settings display. You must wait for the scan to complete. Editing FTP Proxy settings In Remote Scan on Mac OS X, if you edit the Proxy settings in the FTP settings to turn off the Use Default Port option, the cursor becomes active in both the Proxy User Name and Proxy Password fields. You can move the active cursor by clicking another field. SeeQuence Suite List View not available in SeeQuence Preview The SeeQuence Preview Help refers to List View, an alternative way of viewing pages in the Page View pane as a list in text format. List View is no longer available. Pages are displayed as thumbnails in the Page View pane.
