Next Generation Core Networks Summit 2011 Standardisation and Developments within SAE Frédéric Firmin (frederic.firmin@3gpp.org) 3GPP Technical Officer Mobile World Congress, 19 th February 2009 1

Terminology SAE The 3GPP work item defining A n d... LTE EPC The Evolved Packet Core network Evolved radio access technology but LTE is often used to describe the Complete system Including Radio EPS The Complete System this Mobile presentation World Congress, covers EPC aspects 19 th February 2009 2

Topics of this presentation Overview of the standardisation work on SAE How is EPC different to current core networks? Standards and releases Where are we now & where are we heading? Mobile World Congress, 19 th February 2009 3

Overview of the standardisation work on SAE Mobile World Congress, 19 th February 2009 4

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project Development of a 3G mobile system based on evolved GSM and UTRA (both FDD and TDD) Maintenance and development of GSM, GPRS and EDGE Development of an evolved 3G and beyond system: EPS 3GPP 2009 Mobile This is World an international Congress, effort 19 th February 2009 5
