Goals and Objectives This example lists NJ Core Content Standards, with the strands for each standard shown as links in outline form. The Special Education Management Module also has choices for non core content standards (preschool, autism, etc) and related services (OT, PT, Speech & Counseling). Choosing Goals and Objectives You have three options to select Goals and Objectives to be included in the IEP. 1) Browse 2) Search 3) Free Type Browse to Select Goals The Browse to Select Goals Tab will display a list of the goal libraries your district has activated, with a + sign to the left of each library. Clicking on the + sign expands that library to list the standards for that particular library Choose the standard you wish to Browse to see the available goals for that Standard. The Goals / Objectives can be edited to meet each student s particular need. In this image below, 3.1 Reading Standards for Literature was expanded:

Note that in the example above, grade 9 and 11 are not listed. This is because there are not any core content standards for those particular grades. There is also a district setting that will hide any goal more than X grades (typically 2) above the student's current grade. Clicking on the plus sign to the left of the grade you wish to Browse, will expand that grade to display the library goals for that grade. In this case grade 2 was expanded: Clicking the checkbox next to the Goal you wish to Browse will expand that Goal to display the related Objectives.

Simply check off the Objectives you want to use and click the Select and Edit Goal and Objectives button. This will bring up a pop up window where the goals and objectives can be edited, and the Due Date, Condition, Criteria & Evaluation method assigned. See Selecting / Editing Objectives below. Note that you can only click on one goal at a time, and then the objectives related to that goal. You must complete the process of saving the objectives for that goal before you can choose additional goals. If you are done browsing that specific content area and standard, you can click the Return to Goal Library at the bottom. Search to Select Goals You are able to search the Goal library using keywords. In the example below, Fraction was entered as the keyword. Please note that searching Fraction will return a larger number of results the Fractions. Type the word or words you would like to search then click the Search button. This returns a list of standards / Goals / Objectives that contain the word fraction (or fractions). You will notice the word you searched is highlighted in yellow. Check off the goal and objective(s) you would like to select, then choose the Select and Edit button.

Whether you are browsing or searching to select goals, you will select and edit them the same. Proceed to Selecting /Editing Goals and Objectives. Selecting / Editing Goals and Objectives This is the pop-up window that appears after clicking the Select and Edit Goals button. Note that in this example, two objectives were chosen for the one goal.

The first drop down at the top of the screen indicates the Grouping that the Goal will be associated with. It is important to understand that this drop down will determine where this goal appears both in the IEP, and when entering the progress of Goals and Objectives (G&O Progress Reporting). In many cases the grouping will be preselected, but can be changed if you wish the goal to be associated with a different grouping. In other cases the grouping dropdown will be blank and require you to select a grouping before the goal can be saved. Remember, the grouping determines where the G&O appear in the IEP and G&O progress report. For example, you could choose study skill goal and save it under the Math Grouping. All Instructional Areas Grouping: In some cases, your District may have established a grouping called All Instructional Areas (or something similar.) If so, then goals assigned to this grouping will appear only once in the IEP under the heading of All Instructional Areas, but will appear separately under each academic area for G&O Progress Reporting purposes. For example, you may want the IEP to include a goal "to improve organizational skills". If that goal is saved under the All instructional Areas grouping, it will appear only once in the IEP, but multiple times in the G&O Progress Report, once under each academic area. This allows the teachers to report progress towards that Organizational Skill separately. The goals and objectives are displayed in free type text boxes so you are able to edit the goals and objectives as necessary. The icon can be used to delete the goals / objective for this student (it does not delete the goal / objective from the library). The icon can be used to copy the objective if desired. The icon allows you to drag and drop the objectives into the order you would like them to print in. The four drop downs (Due Date, Condition, Criteria and Measurement) are used to expand the objective into a measureable statement. So the goal: Student will learn to count to 10 Will be expanded to be: By the end of the school year, John will learn to count to 10 independently, with 90% accuracy, as measured by teacher prepared tests and assessments. Some of the options in the drop down include a fill in the blank option ( % of the time). When one of those options are chosen, a variable box will appear to the right so you can "fill in the blank".

Note that your district may also allow you to free type your own responses. If your district has provided you this option, you will see Free Type as an option in the drop down, which when selected will allow you to type your own statement Please note that all of the items and options on this screen are District maintained. The last free type text area can be used to free type an objective. Click the Add button to the right after typing the free type objective to save it and have access to the 4 drop downs to complete the statement Once you have completed the process of editing the goals & objectives, and made selections from the four drop downs, click the Save and Close button at the bottom to save what you have done and return to the goal library. Free Type Additional Goals Free type additional goals allows you to build the goal and objective(s) from scratch. First pick the grouping, then hand type the goal and objective. Next fill in your criteria options, and then decide if you would like to Add Another Objective. If you are done, you can Save & Return to Selected Goals or if you want to create another goal select Save & Add Another Goal.

Note: This will not add the goal and objective(s) to your library permanently. It will be a onetime custom goal for the student. If you would like the goal added permanently, give it to the CST and ask for it to be added. Selected Goals Tab Once Saved, the Selected Goals tab shows the number of goals selected in the ( ) You can view / edit the selected goals by clicking on the Selected Goals tab. Note that the grade and name of the person that selected the goal are displayed on the screen, but will not print in the IEP. If your student already has a currently implemented IEP you will see a link at the top to Copy goals from the current implemented document. You will be able to copy all or just a few specific ones, and edit if necessary. The icon can be used to delete the goals / objective for this student (it does not delete the goal / objective from the library). The icon will allow you to Edit or change any part of the goal and objective(s) selected. The icon can be used to copy the objective if desired.
