FAMEBOY is a classic drum synthesiser propelled into the modern age for the professional music producers of today. Featuring original samples fused with cutting-edge technology, advanced sequencing and sound-shaping capabilities. We packaged all of this inside the most spectactular interface we could create. FAMEBOY can be used for any purpose - It s not just a Chiptune machine...the advanced architecture and sound-mangling controls will enable you to use it for any music production purposes. Or maybe, you just want to be inspired and use it to show off to your friends. For Native Instruments Kontakt V5.5+

OVERVIEW FAMEBOY is an advanced drum sequencer with 4 playback engines THE START UP SCREEN When you first load up Fameboy you are treated with a little animation to fire up your retro nostalgic juices Just click anywhere on the screen to initiate the animation. INSTALLATION The library is supplied as a single Zip file. This is a compressed folder that you can open using the built-in tools on your computer. Open the file by double clicking and it will decompress the contents. Once decompression is complete you will have a single folder, this contains all the files needed to use the sample library. Simply copy this folder to the drive where you store your samples. For top performance it is recommended to keep sample libraries on a different drive to that of the OS and program files. RUNNING THE LIBRARY Once inside Kontakt, if you open the file tab in the browser window on the left-hand side you can browse to the instruments of the newly installed sample library. Just double click the NKI you wish to use and Kontakt will load it up. You can also make use of Kontakt's Quick Load feature to make it even easier to load libraries into Kontakt: Please refer to the Kontakt user manual for more information. FAMEBOY has been created for the full version of Kontakt 5.5.1. It will only run in demo mode if you try and load it in Kontakt Player - so don t buy this if you only have Kontakt Player SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Full version of Kontakt 5.6 required 2.2GB of Disk Space CONTENTS 1180 Samples Komplete and Maschine Integration 18 Snapshot Presets Compressed.ncw format samples

WORKING WITH SNAPSHOTS Snapshots are the easiest and most efficient way of loading and saving presets within Kontakt. FAMEBOY comes with a vast selection of snapshots ready to use. Please go to the snapshots folder inside your product folder and locate the folder named [Fame Boy] then copy that folder to your user content folder. The location of the folder is shown here: \Users\[Your Name]\Documents\Native Instruments\User Content\Kontakt Snapshot Select Save Delete SI BEGG Fameboy comes with a selection of sound design and sequencer presets from our good friend and talented producer Si Begg TIP To find your snapshot folder the easy way. Click the wrench icon to access the Kontakt inner panels. Click Instrument Options then click Snapshots. Finally click Show and Your snapshot folder location will open up so you can place the factory Snapshots inside.

Simply select the Drum Voice here and the corresponding Send level will be displayed. Battery Level Keep your eye on the remaining battery level indicator at all times. If your battery gets too low be sure to connect Fameboy to your nearest mains power outlet. OK - This isn t true but hey, it adds an extra layer of realism Predelay :: Reverb Predelay Size :: Reverb Size Hicut :: Reverb Hicut Send :: Reverb Send Level Mixer Page B operates exactly the same is Page A but it gives you access to the controls for the next 8 sounds Reverb Vol Sets the volume level for each drum voice

PAGE :: TAPE DRIVE The Tape Drive pages offer a full set of controls to emulate classic tape degredation effects to add an authentic layer of analog grit to your drums Drive/Heat/Qual Power Button Don t forget to power on the Tape Drive with this button! DRIVE :: Increases the Drive of the Tape Machine Effect HEAT :: Increases the Warmth of the the Tape Machine Effect QUAL :: Decreases the High Frequency quality of the Tape Machine Effect Input/Output Sets the input and output gain signal for each drum voice. Tape Drive Page B operates exactly the same is Page A but it gives you access to the controls for the next 8 sounds

PAGE :: SEQUENCERS The Sequencers in Fameboy are small but very powerful offering many functions for creating unique and interesting patterns. Once you have a sequence you can easily export the midi pattern to your host using drag n drop! RATE :: Sets the speed of the sequencer. Rates available: 1/2 :: 1/4 :: 1/8 :: 1/16 :: 1/32 SHF :: SHUFFLE - Sets the shuffle amount of the pattern. For serious swing increase this value. For no shuffle leave it set to 0% MIDI DRAG N DROP OH Yes! Fameboy allows you to drag any created pattern into your DAW for further tweaking. We love this feature! Simply click the midi button and a small icon will appear. Drag that icon into a sequencer lane in your DAW and have your way with it. ACC :: ACCENT - You can assign an Accent to any step of the sequence and then dial in a % strength that will affect all accented steps. The Accent increases the dynamic strength and volume. This is useful for adding emphasis to snares mainly at the 2nd and 4th step of a 4/4 time pattern but can be useful for all sorts of different patterns STP :: STEPS - Adjust the number of steps the pattern will run for before repeating

8 PATTERNS PER SEQUENCE Yup, Fameboy has this too. Create up to 8 different patterns per sequence and swap between them on the fly using the trigger keys on your keyboard. Nifty! Green keys are pattern trigger keys Sequencer Page B operates exactly the same is Page A but it gives you access to the controls for the next 8 sounds

PAGE :: MASTER CRUSH :: Increases the Master Bit Crush Effect. REDUX :: Increases the Master Sample Rate Reduction Effect. Run The Sequencer can be started and stopped on any page so the Run button is always located at the top of the display. Click to start and stop the sequencer. The sequencer will sync to your hosts tempo and can also be triggered to start and stop in sync with your transport controls SAT :: Increases the Master Saturation Effect. LOW :: Adjusts the Low frequencies of the master EQ. LMID :: Adjusts the Low Mid frequencies of the master EQ. SLAM :: Increases the Master Slam effect, a heavy compression effect which can drastically alter the transient response of the mix. HIGH :: Adjusts the High frequencies of the master EQ. HMID :: Adjusts the High Mid frequencies of the master EQ.

PAGE :: MASTER TIP If you hold down Ctrl while clicking a knob it will reset to its default value COMP :: Lowers the threshold of the master compressor. RELS :: Adjusts the Release of the master compressor. ATTK :: Adjusts the Attack of the master compressor. GAIN :: Increases the Makeup Gain of the master compressor. MIDI LEARN AND AUTOMATION Don t forget to make good use of the extensive midi cc learn function in Kontakt and automate the controls either live using your hardware controller or via your midi automation lanes in your DAW. Simply right-click any control and select MIDI LEARN. Then move a controller to send a midi CC note to assign it to that controller

PAGE :: MASTER WIDTH :: Adjusts the Stereo Width of the mix between 0% (mono) and 200% (wide). LIMIT :: Increases the input gain before the master limiter. RELS :: Sets the release speed of the master limiter. OUT :: Sets the output level of the master limiter. MODE :: Sets the output mode to Master Channel Routing. When enabled this mode sums all of the drum channels through the master effects and to the first available output in Kontakt. MULTI :: Sets the output mode to Multi Channel Routing. When enabled this mode bypasses the master effects and sends each channel to it's own output in Kontakt. Outputs 2-17 are used in this mode if available. Please use the Fameboy (Multi-Output).nkm version of the instrument for easy setup and compatibility.
