1. Getting started In just a few minutes we ll show you how easy it is to use the features of your Sony Ericsson K800i. 1. Insert your SIM card Insert your SIM card as shown. Make sure the gold contacts are facing down and the cut-off edge is correctly aligned. 2. Insert the battery Insert the battery as shown and fit the cover. The battery may need charging. A full charge can take up to 2.5 hours. english 3. Turn it on Press and hold the key on the top of the phone. Do the same to turn it off. When prompted, select Normal mode select Flight mode only when you don t want the mobile signal activated. You can access other phone modes at any time by briefly pressing the key. 4. Insert a Memory Stick Micro if available To enlarge the phone s memory, open the side flap and insert a Memory Stick Micro, until it clicks in place. Push it in to remove it. 3

2. Using the handset Keys and navigation Navigation key: press P to OK an action or select a highlighted option. In standby mode this opens the main menu. Press sideways to move around icons and menu lists. In standby mode, press > Vodafone live! (offline), E > My Files, H > Contacts, F > Create new. Soft keys: press to select the option displayed in the bottom left or right of the screen. In standby mode the left soft key opens the main Menu, the right soft key opens the Toolbar. The Toolbar lets you view and open bookmarks, shortcuts, applications, and recent calls and messages. Press to return to the standby screen. Press F E to move between the Toolbar tabs. The first tab lets you open web pages and bookmarks. The second tab shows new messages, alerts and missed calls. The third shows your running applications. The fourth shows your shortcut menu. english Call key: press to make or answer a call. Pressing in standby mode opens your Call Logs. End key: press to end a call. Press this key at any time to return to the standby screen. 5

Back key: press to take you back to a previous menu or screen. Press and hold to return to the standby screen. Clear key: press to delete a character of text. Press and hold to delete all text. Press this key to delete contact entries and other items. Music key (on the left side of the phone): press and hold to turn on the media player or radio. Press and hold again to turn off radio or pause music. Camera key (on the right side of the phone): press to start the camera, and to take a photo or video clip. Volume keys (on the right side of the phone): press to adjust the volume, and to zoom in and out of photos. Press once in standby mode to show the phone status. Picture keys (above the screen): in standby mode, press the left picture key to view your pictures full screen, or the right one to view them as thumbnails. In camera mode (see page 11) they change picture settings. 6

3. Voice calls, UMTS and video calls Voice calls 1. Make a call In standby mode, enter the number using the keypad and then press the key. Press to end the call. To use your Call list, press in standby mode. Scroll to the number you want and press to start dialling. You can also press H to access your Contacts from standby mode. During a call, pressing P turns on the loudspeaker, More brings up an option menu including muting the microphone. english 2. Answer a call Press. UMTS The UMTS network supports faster data transmission and takes speed and service availability to a new level. Swisscom Mobile is introducing a variety of new services specifically for the UMTS network. As well as being able to make and receive video calls, with Vodafone live! you can also enjoy Live TV and Replay TV (see page 18). 7

UMTS service indicator When the UMTS symbol appears next to the signal bars, you ll be able to take advantage of the faster, richer functions of the UMTS service. Of course, you ll still be able to use the existing network at other times. The UMTS network is growing rapidly check out www.swisscom-mobile.ch/umts for more information on where the service is available. Video calls When the UMTS symbol appears you can make and receive video calls. The other person you re calling must have a compatible UMTS phone and be in a UMTS area too. 1. Start the Video call screen In standby mode, press Menu > Video call to bring up the Video call screen. The small screen shows what the person you re calling will see (you ll see them in the larger screen). Use a headset for the best sound quality. 2. Call a number Press. Enter a number or choose a contact, then press Call. If the UMTS network is not available, you ll be asked if you want to make a voice call. You can also start a video call from other applications, such as Contacts or Calls list. Just highlight the number and press More > Make video call. 8

3. Adjusting the image Press H to zoom in and out. Press More for an option menu of other adjustments. 4. Answer a video call Press. Press Camera to turn your camera off or on (if you don t want the caller to view you). 5. Share pictures You can share images during a video call. Press E to choose an image from your Pictures folder. english

4. Using the camera With the built-in digital camera it s easy to take photos and video clips. You can send these to other people as a picture or video message (MMS see page 13). Take and send a photo or video clip 1. Turn on the camera Turn the phone sideways, then open the lens cover to turn on the camera (in standby mode). Close the lens cover to turn the camera off and return to the previous screen. 2. Adjust the image Use the volume keys to zoom in or out, and press the navigation key F or E to adjust the brightness. To cycle through the flash light settings, press. For other settings, see page 12. 3. Take a photo Press the camera key half way until focus is confirmed (you may see a red light to help with focusing), then press all the way down to take the photo. Your photo is automatically saved in Menu > My Files > Camera album. Press View in the camera screen to see your photos. To delete the photo, press, or press the camera key to take another one. 10

4. Send the photo Press Send. See the MMS section for further details. Advanced modes: Press the lower Picture key (to the left of the screen) to cycle through different shooting modes, including BestPic (which takes up to 9 pictures in a row for you to choose the best one) and Panorama modes. The upper Picture key cycles through different scene modes, such as Portrait or Twilight. When you ve taken your picture, press More > Edit in PhotoDJ for a range of editing options. 5. Take and send a video clip In camera mode, press the navigation key H (press G to return to camera mode). To start recording, press. When focus is confirmed, recording will start. Press again to stop. The clip is saved in Menu > My Files > Camera album. To see your clip, press More > Play. To delete it, press, or to send it, press Send. To edit it, press More > VideoDJ. english Advanced modes: Press the lower Picture key to move between MMS and high quality video modes. The upper Picture key cycles through normal and night modes. 11

6. Other camera settings When the camera is active, press Settings. Use the navigation key to choose a setting, then press P to select it. Here are the main ones: Shoot mode: choose Normal/BestPic /Panorama/Frame. For video, choose For MMS (default) to be able to send a clip. Picture size: 3 megapixels is the highest quality, but takes up more memory. Night mode: switch on or off. Self-timer: switch on or off. 12

5. Picture and video messaging (MMS) With MMS (picture messaging) you can send more than just text messages you can also send pictures, video clips and sounds to other MMS-enabled phones! Create and send a message 1. Start a new message In standby mode, press F, or go to Menu > Messaging > Create new. Choose MMS. english 2. Add the text Write your message using the keypad. For a space, press. To cycle through common symbols, press 1 repeatedly (press 1 then H to cycle through them in predictive text mode). For all symbols, press More > Add symbol. To cycle through Abc, abc or ABC, press. To enter a number, press and hold the number key. Note: Writing a message with predictive text (T9) is much easier, because it uses an internal dictionary to work out what word you want to use. You simply press the keys with the letters you want once. To cycle through alternative letter combinations, press H. To change from predictive text (T9) to abc (multiple key press) entry, press and hold. 13

3. Add a photo, video clip or sound clip Press More > Add picture > Camera album or More > Add video > Camera album. Select a photo or video clip and press P to add it to your message. Note: press Yes if asked to resize a photo, and make sure you re using For MMS mode for your videos. To add a sound clip to your message, select More > Add sound > Music. To record a new sound clip select Add sound > Record sound. To take a new photo for your message Add picture > Take picture. More > Slide > Add after/before lets you add another page to your message. 4. Preview To see (and hear) your message, press More > Preview. To go back to the message screen, press Stop. To delete an item, select it with the navigation key and press. 5. Send the message Press Continue. To send to a mobile phone > Enter phone no.. To send to an e-mail address > Enter E-mail addr.. To use a number or e-mail address from your phonebook > Contacts look-up. Then press Send. 14

MMS tips 1. Sending to a mobile phone If you re sending the message to a person whose mobile phone isn t MMS compatible, they ll be sent a web address to view it on. 2. Sending to more than one person To send your message to more than one person, press More > Add recipient and add more mobile phone numbers or e-mail addresses. english 15

6. Vodafone live! Vodafone live! brings you new and exciting ways to communicate, to access information, musiac and games, and to personalise your phone. Find more information at www.swisscom-mobile.ch/vodafonelive 1. Connect In standby mode, press and select Homepage. To exit, press More > Exit browser or press and hold the key. 2. Browsing Use the navigation key to select a link, then press P to open that page. Press the key to go back a page. 3. Options Press More for the browser options menu. To go to a saved bookmark Go to > Bookmarks. To save a page as a bookmark Tools > Add bookmark. To go to a new web address, press Go to > Enter address. 4. Go to offline links To view selected Vodafone live! links without connecting, press in standby mode. You can also press Toolbar in standby mode and select your bookmarks or links. 16

7. Downloading Change your K800i whenever you want by downloading new ringtones, videos, games, applications or background wallpaper from Vodafone live!. You may also watch videos or listen to music directly using the streaming mode (without the need to download and save). Download to your phone Wallpaper: Menu > My Files > Pictures > Download Pictures. Ringtones: Menu > My Files > Music > Download Ringtones. Games: Menu > My Files > Games > Download Games. Videos: Menu > My Files > Videos > Download Videos. Music: Menu > My Files > Music > Download Music. english Choose a download, press P to connect to it. Follow the instructions to download. Using your downloads Select your new ringtone in Music > Ringtones > More > Use as > Ringtone. Select your new wallpaper in Pictures > More > Use as > Wallpaper. 17

8. Other services and functions MMS Postcard You can send a photo from your phone as an actual postcard. Go to Menu > Messaging > Create new > live! Postcard, and add a picture and text > Send. Add the address > Send. Swisscom Mobile will have it printed on a postcard and sent by mail. Exclusive services for Vodafone live! UMTS customers 1. Live TV With Live TV on your mobile phone you can view exactly what is being screened on your television at home. A wide range of stations means that you can quickly dip into your weekly crime drama whilst on the move, watch the weather forecast or see the pick of Sunday s goals. 2. Replay TV Missed your favourite TV programme? If your mobile phone is UMTS or EDGE-enabled, no problem Replay TV provides TV formats round-the-clock designed specially for your mobile. 18

Phone hints 1. Silent mode In standby mode, press and hold the key. You ll see the silent icon appear on the phone screen. Press and hold the same key again to restore your ring tone. 2. Keyboard lock In standby mode, press the key and then the right hand soft key. You ll see the lock icon on the screen. Press the same keys again to release the keyboard. 3. Radio Connect your handsfree earpiece, then go to Menu > Radio. Press Search to scan for a station, then press More > Save to save it. More > Minimize lets you use the handset while the music is playing. english 19

Music player You can use the Music player on your phone by downloading music and videos from Vodafone live! Otherwise you will need to install some software on your PC to transfer music and videos from your PC to the memory in your phone. Please see the User Guide for your mobile phone for full details, and for instructions on installing the drivers and using the Disc2Phone software, and also attaching the USB cable. 1. Download music from Vodafone live! In standby mode, press Menu > Music player > Download music. Choose a track and follow the instructions to download it. 2. Create playlists In standby mode, press Menu > Music player. Press Playlist > New playlist > Add, then enter the name of your new playlist. Press OK, then mark the tracks you want to add, and press Add. To play your playlist, press Play. 3. Using the Music player Press or to scroll through your playlist tracks, then press Play to play them. Pressing the side key starts or stops the Music player, so you can use other functions on your phone while listening. 20
