Introduction Pre-Training Intel created the Intel Learning Series to address ongoing education technology needs around the world. The Intel Learning Series is a collection of hardware, software, and services designed specifically for education. Intel spearheads the research and design specs; the Intel Learning Series is brought to life by local technology companies who customize the products and services for their markets. This document will discuss the standard software stacks for Windows* including an introduction, how to use, and other useful information for LOEMs to understand the software stacks easily and quickly. Audience This training document is intended for Intel marketing, Intel GEO technical marketing engineers (TMEs), Intel local field application engineers (FAEs), Local OEM technical staff, and other NDA-covered company staff who will work with teachers and students on the installation, implementation, and operation of Intelpowered convertible classmate PCs. 5

Pre-Training General Purpose: The fundamental subjects covered in these slides are: How to install and uninstall the software stacks within the Intel Learning Series. Q & A Inspirus School Server Q: What are some of the settings managed by the school server? A: The server based software can set permissions and enable/disable applications on all PCs via the server. In the server account, an admin password can be set up to allow teachers access to adminauthorized actions for all student PCs. Q: What are the Network or firewall requirements for Inspirus? A: School Server broadcasts on UDP port 1111 and TCP 20000. If 20000 is in use, MD switches to 20001 and so on until it finds an available port. Inspirus Desktop, School Server, School Office and Classroom Control are able to automatically register themselves as exceptions in Windows Firewall only if the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is running. Otherwise, these programs should be registered manually. Q: I want to manage student software via the server, but find it tedious to manually locate each program. Is there an easier way? A: Export Wizard enables simple management of software via School Server. In order to manage applications on a school's CMPCs, School Server must know what programs are on the student computers and where they are. You can provide that information manually, but it's much easier to use Export Wizard to generate it automatically through an AppList File. 116

Q & A Q: What do I need to do to configure the School? A: Apply an administrator password Set up Network settings and permissions Check programs and gadgets to make them available on the school desktop Launch manage user Enter the names of students Enter names of teachers Registration Codes will be auto-generated These can be printed for reference when connecting student computers 117

Q & A Inspirus Classroom Control Q: What can I do with Classroom control? A: One of the main features is that teachers can easily set up default programs, files, and backgrounds for student computers for each class. In this way, teachers do not have to explain what programs to open, etc. 118

Q & A Inspirus Desktop and Child Safety Control Q: I m afraid my child may delete system settings and important data. How can this be prevented? A: Inspirus is the first thing kids see when the computer is turned on, and accessing the regular Windows screen requires a parent or teacher password. Inspirus protects your system settings and important data from accidental kid-interference. Q: How can parents use Child Safety control to monitor programs? A: In addition to controlling which programs kids can access, parents can also control when and how kids access the approved programs. Parents can restrict applications to work only during specified days and times. Q: Where do I get the authentication code to connect to the school network? A: If a school server is on the same network, launch Inspirus school connector, select the server to connect. Enter the authentication code for the student (can be obtained from the manage user). The manage user will have an individual authentication code for each student. Q: I have added the Hard-Disk Protection application into the Approved Programs list, but why can the calibration menu not be launched? A: Calibration menu of Hard Disk Protection application is not enabled by Inspirus. Users can close Inspirus desktop and launch the menu in Windows as normal. Actually, all units are calibrated in factory line so that users do not need to re-calibrate it in general. 119

Q & A Inspirus Classroom Control Q: The OS of my computer is Win* 7, and I could not use function key Fn+F6, what should I do now? A: User can select to close MD desktop and return to normal OS through Start menu to enable this function (Don t need to reboot or log off). After set the function enabled in normal OS, user can enter MD desktop, and such function keep taking action. 120
