Layout Speaker/Line Out CD In Line In MIC Game/MIDI JP1 SB-Link Figure 1. Board layout Jumper Settings (JP1) Short (1,3), (2,4) = Line Out (default setting) Short (3,5), (4,6) = Speaker Out Connectors Game/MIDI This is a 15-pin D-sub connector. It can be used with standard MIDI adapter or joystick. Speaker/Line Out Provides stereo output (Speaker Out) of 0.75w per channel or Line Out signal without power output. Configurable by jumper JP1. Line In Stereo input jack which accepts a 1/8-inch TRS plug. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording. 3

MIC A 1/8-inch jack which provides a mono input. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording, a source to be mixed with the overall output signal, or both. SB-Link This 6-pin connector provides SoundBlaster compatibility resource. For a system that provides SB-Link interface, connect to it by your ribbon cable. CD In Stereo connector which can be used to attach a CD-ROM audio cable. Note: Select the CD In connector that matches your CD-ROM's audio cable. Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the card are provided below. Since the design of computer cases and motherboards vary, refer to your computer s reference manual for further information, if needed. Static Electricity Discharge may permanently damage your system. Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by touching your computer's case for a few seconds. Avoid any contact with internal parts and handle cards by their external edges. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and any other connected peripheral devices. 2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. 3. Remove your computer s cover. 4

4. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCI slot. 5. Carefully align the card's bus connector with the selected PCI slot on the motherboard. Push the board down firmly, but gently, until it is well seated. 6. Replace the slot bracket's holding screw to secure the card. 7. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord. Software Installation This section will guide you through the installation of the software drivers. Make sure you have installed the board before installing the software. Windows 95 1. Boot up Windows and insert the driver CD. 2. At the Update Device Driver Wizard, click Cancel. 3. Click Start, Run, type D:\95\Setup.exe, then click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the driver. When prompted restart the computer. 5. When Windows resumes, at the Insert Disk box, click OK. Insert your Windows 95 Installation CD then click OK. 6. Restart the computer to complete the installation. 5

Windows 98 1. Boot up Windows and insert the driver CD. 2. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Cancel. 3. Click Start, then Run. Type D:\98\Setup.exe, then click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 4. Click Next, select Upgrade Drivers, then click Next. 5. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click Finish. Note: When Windows resumes, if prompted, click Yes to restart to complete the installation. Windows 98SE 1. Boot up Windows and insert the driver CD. 2. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 2. Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended), then click Next. 3. Check Specify a location, uncheck the other boxes, type D:\98SE, click Next. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 4. Click Next, at Insert Disk box, click OK, type D:\98SE\localize, click OK, then click Finish. 5. At Insert Disk box, click OK. Insert your Windows 98SE Installation CD, then click OK. 6. Restart to complete the installation. 6

Windows ME ME automatically installs it's built-in driver for the SoundWave Pro PCI. However, to get full function from the soundcard, the driver on the driver CD must be installed. Follow the directions below to install the driver. 1. Boot up Windows and insert the driver CD. 2. After the built-in driver installs, click Start, then Run. Type D:\ME\Setup.exe, then click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 3. Click Next, select Upgrade Drivers, click Next. 4. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click Finish. 5. When ME resumes, at the Digital Signature Notification box, click Advanced. Select Warn when installing unsigned devices, then click OK. 6. Select Yes, then click OK. 7. At the Digital Signature Notification box, click Advanced. Select Warn when installing unsigned devices, then click OK. Skip steps 7-8 and continue directly to step 9 if not prompted. 8. Select Yes, then click OK. 9. At the New Hardware Found box, type C:\Windows\System, then click OK. 10. Restart Windows to complete the installation. 7

Windows NT 4.0 1. Boot up Windows NT and insert the driver CD. 2. Click Start, Run, type D:\NT4\Setup.exe, click OK. 3. Click Next, select Install, click Next. 4. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, then click Finish. To verify successful installation in NT 4.0: 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double click Multimedia icon. 2. Click Devices, double click Audio Devices, Audio for ES1938/1941/1946 PCI AudioDrive... should be displayed. Windows 2000/XP Windows 2000 and XP automatically detects and installs the correct driver. No additional driver installation is needed. Windows 2003 Server For most systems, Windows Server 2003 automatically detects and installs the correct driver. If prompted for a driver, follow the instructions below to complete the installation. 1. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 2. Insert the driver CD, check Include this location in the search, uncheck the other box, type D:\2003, then click Next. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 8

3. Highlight the first entry, click Next, then Finish. 4. Restart the computer to complete the installation. Verify Successful Installation 1. Check Device Manager to verify successful driver installation. Windows 95/98/98SE/ME: Right click My Computer, then click Properties. Click Device Manager tab. Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: Right click My Computer, then click Manage. Click Device Manager. Windows NT 4.0: See To verify successful installation in NT 4.0 on page 8. 2. Double click Sound, video and game controllers: Windows 95/98: ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive, ESS SOLO-1 DOS Emulation and Game Port Joystick should be displayed Windows 98SE/ME: ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive (WDM) and Game Port Joystick should be displayed. Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: ESS... PCI AudioDrive (WDM) and Standard Game Port should be displayed. 9

AudioRack AudioRack is a multimedia utility that includes audio Mixer, DAT player, MIDI player and CD player. Windows already has these utilities built in, however, if you choose to install this optional software, follow the directions below. 1. Click Start, Run. Type D:\Arack\Setup.exe, click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive letter) 2. Follow onscreen instructions to complete the installation. 10
