M4 USB Interface Installation Guide This document contains instructions for installing your M4 Programming Software and M4-USBINT hardware into the Windows operating system. The M4 Programmer software must be installed before connecting the M4-USBINT hardware to your computer, otherwise Windows will not be able to find the correct hardware driver package for the M4- USBINT. Support for the M4-USBINT is provided for the following versions of Windows: Windows XP Windows 2000 Windows ME Windows 98 Second Edition Installing the M4 Programming Software from a CD-ROM 1. Put the M4 Programmer software installation disc into the drive. 2. The installation program should start automatically. If it does not, manually run the file m4setup.exe from the CD. 3. Choose the location in which to install the software, or simply click Next to use the default location (recommended). 4. 5. Select whether you would like program icons placed on the desktop and/or quickstart menu, then click Next 6. Click Install to begin the installation process. MANH-026 Rev. A Hazard Systems Customer Service Team Page 3 of 8
7. Click Finish to close the installation wizard. You should now install the M4-USBINT hardware, as described below. MANH-026 Rev. A Hazard Systems Customer Service Team Page 4 of 8
Installing the M4-USBINT Hardware 1. Attach the M4-USBINT to a spare USB connector to your PC. Upon successful connection Windows will prompt you that it has found new hardware. 2. From the Found New Hardware Wizard select Install the software automatically and then click Next. MANH-026 Rev. A Hazard Systems Customer Service Team Page 5 of 8
3. If you are using Windows XP you will get a message that the driver has not passed Windows Compatibility testing. Click Continue Anyway to install the driver. 4. Windows will now install the M4-USBINT driver software, which allows the M4 Programmer software to communicate with the M4-USBINT hardware. When the installation is complete you will be prompted. 5. After the installation is completed Windows should indicate that the new hardware is ready to use. 6. Proper device installation can also be verified from within the Windows Device Manager program. This information is provided for troubleshooting purposes only.
