Installation Installation instructions for TABLET and related hardware.
TABLET Installation TABLET Installation Before proceeding, verify that you have completed the procedures in the PeopleNet Installation Manual through page 28. These include the following three procedures: Mounting the g3 onboard computer (OBC) Mounting and connecting antennas Connecting the Main Cable to the OBC and the vehicle s power source Once you have verified that they are completed, proceed with Mounting the TABLET Dock below. Mounting the TABLET Dock You will need the TABLET Dock Installation Kit for this procedure. 1. Determine a physical mounting location for the TABLET Dock that will not Impede the driver s vision, or Cause damage to the truck from the weight of the device. Refer to Installation Examples on page 22 for pictures of a mounted TABLET Dock. 2. Bolt the TABLET Dock to the L Support Brace. 3. Secure the L Support Brace to the dash. 4. Verify that both the L Support Brace and the TABLET Dock are securely mounted. 5. Place the TABLET into the TABLET Dock. 6. Lock the TABLET in place with the locking mechanism on the top of the TABLET Dock. The TABLET Dock is now mounted. 12
DC-DC Installation DC-DC Installation You will need the DC-DC Power Supply Kit for the following procedures. Connecting the DC-DC Power Supply to the PeopleNet System 1. Locate the two blue barrel connectors; one from the Main Cable (for explanation, refer to the PeopleNet Installation Manual), and one from the TABLET Interface Cable. 2. Plug both connectors into their corresponding connectors on the DC-DC Power Supply. 3. Use pliers to gently tighten the connectors until snug. Figure 6: Gently Tighten Connectors until Snug 13
DC-DC Installation Mounting the DC-DC Power Supply 1. Determine a location for the DC-DC Power Supply that meets the following requirements: Safe from electrical contacts. Since the DC-DC Power Supply box is metal and connected directly to ground, it MUST NOT come into contact with a positive power source. If the DC-DC Power Supply box were to touch an unprotected source of power, it would short out the system and could potentially cause a fire. Securely mounted. The DC-DC Power Supply must be held in place by four screws. If it cannot be secured by four screws, zip ties can be used to secure it to a solid object, such as a support brace behind the dash. Continuously cool and dry. The DC-DC Power Supply must be kept away from major heat sources and protected from the elements, such as water. 2. Mount the DC-DC Power Supply in the determined location with four (4) screws and zip ties, as necessary. CAUTION: The case of the DC-DC Power Supply is connected directly to ground. Do NOT allow it to come into contact with any power sources. The supplied 15 Amp fuse will not protect against this condition. 14
DC-DC Installation Connecting Power to the DC-DC Power Supply Keep Figure 7 and the following colors in mind as you proceed with this procedure: Figure 7: DC-DC Power Supply Wires Wire Color Description Red Black Constant +12 Volts (Not Switched) Ground 1. Using a butt connector, attach the red wire from the DC-DC Power Supply to the fuse holder. 2. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to a 15 Amp power source. Important: This may be the same source that is used for g3 power. Do not connect the 15 Amp fuse in series with the 5 Amp fuse; go directly to the vehicle s power source. 3. Secure the black, grounding wire and silver, shielding wire to a secure, reliable ground. 4. Verify that you are ready to power up the TABLET. 5. Insert the 15 Amp ATC fuse into the fuse holder. 15
DC-DC Installation Plugging in TABLET Dock, Keyboard, and Speaker 1. Connect the male 12 pin connector on the TABLET Interface cable to the back of the TABLET Dock. Figure 8: TABLET Dock connections 2. Connect the USB keyboard to either USB pigtail on the TABLET Dock a. Wrap the end of the unused USB pigtail with electrical tape and secure the wire 3. Wrap electrical tape around the USB connection (for protection), and secure the USB cables with a zip tie to form strain-relief loop. Figure 9: USB Connection with Electrical Tape and Zip Tie 4. (Optional equipment) Connect the speaker to the TABLET Dock a. Connect the male stereo plug of the speaker to the back of the TABLET Dock b. Connect the paired red and black wires from the speaker to the grey speaker pigtail of the TABLET Interface cable. (Remove the 2-pin connector from the pigtail and use butt connectors to connect red to red and black to black) 16
