Midland University Remote VPN Instructions Midland University employs Fortinet Fortigate firewalls to protect its network perimeter from malicious entities on the World Wide Web. However, in the course of its business functions, and for the flexibility of the faculty and staff, Midland University does allow for remote connectivity from anywhere with an internet connection using a SSLVPN. This is for accessing network resources (such as file shares and RDP sessions on servers). It is not currently required for access to email, Canvas or Nexus. Obtaining the Client Windows Installation Instructions The FortiClient is required for remote access through the SSLVPN. If the FortiClient is not installed on your machine, you can follow the below steps. Note: Administrator access is required to install this software. If you do not have administrator access on your machine, please contact the Helpdesk for assistance. 1.) Open your browser to https://www.fortinet.com/support-and-training/support/productdownloads.html 2.) Select the FortiClient box at the top of the page and then click the Download button below your systems Operating System Icon. Currently, the FortiClient is available on Windows, MacOS, ios and Android.
3.) When done, click to open the downloaded file. 4.) Enter your credentials on the User Access Control Window when prompted. 5.) The Installer will connect to the Fortinet servers to get the latest client files. (This may take a few minutes.) 6.) When it is done downloading the welcome screen will appear. Click Yes to acknowledge the license agreement and click Next.
7.) Click Secure Remote Access box and click Next. 8.) Accept the default destination folder, and click next. 9.) Click Install to start the Installation.
10.) When finished, click the Finish button. 11.) The client is now installed.
Mac Installation Instructions. 1.) Open your browser to https://www.fortinet.com/support-and-training/support/productdownloads.html 2.) Select FortiClient on the left, and then select your OS on the right. Currently, the FortiClient is available on Windows, MacOS, ios and Android. When selected, click the download button. 3.) Click on the download file.
4.) DoubleClick the FortiClient Update icon. 5.) If you are prompted to open due to the application being downloaded from the Internet click Open. 6.) The Update will download the newest client version. Click Install when the download completes. 7.) Click Continue on the welcome window.
8.) Click Continue to accept the license agreement. 9.) Click Agree on the prompt then click Install to install the client.
10.) When complete, click the close button.
Configuring Connection Windows Client Configuration 1.) Open the FortiClient application by double-clicking the icon. Windows puts an icon on the desktop. 2.) Select Remote Access on the left, and click the Configure VPN link.
3.) Fill out the following information: Ensure SSL-VPN is selected at the top. Connection Name: Midland University VPN Description: Midland University VPN Remote Gateway: 162.127.1.69 Check Customize Port and enter 10443 Check Do not Warn Invalid Server Certificate. Click Apply 4.) After it is saved, click Close.
5.) Enter your network credentials in the username and password box and click Connect. 6.) When connected, the client will minimize to your SysTray (down by the clock)
7.) You can right click the icon and select Open FortiClient Console to see your connection statistics. 8.) You are now connected. When done, click Disconnect or right click the Fortinet client and select Shutdown.
Mac Client Configuration 1.) Mac users may be able to click the icon in the Toolbar or search for it in the Applications folder. - Mac Toolbar Icon 2.) When the Client opens, select Remote Access on the left of the window.
3.) Enter the following information: VPN Type: SSL VPN Connection Name: Midland University VPN Description: Midland University VPN Remote Gateway: 162.127.1.69 Customize Port: Check and enter 10443 Client Certificate: None Then Click Add
4.) Enter your network credentials and click Connect 5.) You may get a prompt stating the server certificate is invalid. Click Continue.
6.) You are now connected. When you are done, click Disconnect, or select Disconnect from the tool bar icon.
