Introduction What you will learn This manual provides all the information you need to install or uninstall Silk Performance Manager 18.5. It describes hardware and software requirements and details the various setup options. The information in this document also helps you configure database access and begin using Silk Performance Manager 18.5. This chapter contains the following sections: Section Page Pre-Installation Requirements 1 Contacting Customer Support 3 Pre-Installation Requirements Each computer you wish to use in your Performance Manager environment must meet minimum hardware and software requirements. Depending on which setup option you choose, there may be additional requirements. Preinstallation requirements are listed below. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Hardware Requirements Enterprise installation If you wish to install Performance Manager as an enterprise system, the Performance Manager servers (application server, front-end server, charting server, execution server, and database system) should be installed on separate machines, as outlined in Advanced Installation. You may also install any Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help 1

INTRODUCTION Pre-Installation Requirements Demo Installation combination of these components on separate machines. To improve performance however, it s recommended that the database system be installed separately, as a standalone system. Each computer in your system must meet the following minimum requirements: Processor: Intel Core i5 or better Memory: 6 GB minimum Free disk space: 30 GB minimum, except for the database server Network: 100 MBit Power supply: Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for all environments to reduce risks of power outages If you wish to install Performance Manager for demonstration purposes, all components can run on a single machine. Note however that, due to system resource limitations, such an installation won t provide full performance. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Software Requirements Operating System In addition to the preceding hardware requirements, your system must also meet certain software conditions to ensure the efficient setup and use of Performance Manager. The availability of these requirements is checked when the Setup Launcher opens. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 cannot be installed while required components are missing. Your computer must be running one of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 64-bit Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit Service Pack 1 (execution server) Microsoft Windows 8 32-bit/64-bit (execution server) Microsoft Windows 8.1 32-bit/64-bit (execution server) Microsoft Windows 10 32-bit/64-bit (execution server) 2 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

INTRODUCTION Contacting Customer Support Important: Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows is required for all Microsoft Windows operating systems. For Microsoft Windows Server 2016, the installation option Windows Server (Server with Desktop Experience) is required. MS SQL Server Adobe Acrobat Reader To use Performance Manager, you must create a repository. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 supports MS SQL Server 2012, 2014 and 2016, including MS SQL Server Express. Note MS SQL Server Express is only recommended and supported for demonstration and evaluation purposes. For production installations, MS SQL Server must be used. Once both Performance Manager and SQL Server have been installed and are operational, you can create the Performance Manager repository (see Performance Manager Administration Help for more information on creating a repository). For instructions on an independent installation of MS SQL Server Express, or for setting up a repository within an alternative database system, see Advanced Installation. You will need a PDF viewer to view the documentation that s provided with Performance Manager. If no PDF viewer or Adobe Acrobat Reader is available, you can download the Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Adobe home page. Operating System - Administrator Privileges To install the Performance Manager software, you must have Windows administrator privileges. If you don t have administrator privileges, you ll receive an error message when the Windows Installer Service opens the installation package and performs the initial requirements checks. 1 Installation 1Chapter In this chapter This chapter takes you through the process of installing, uninstalling and customizing Silk Performance Manager 18.5. The Silk Performance Manager 18.5 setup offers the flexibility of creating an application environment that meets your needs. You may want to read through the various options before deciding how to proceed. Each setup option must meet certain pre-installation requirements, as outlined in Pre-Installation Requirements. After fulfilling these requirements, proceed to the instructions for the setup option of your choice. This chapter contains the following sections: Section Page Overview 6 Standard Installation 7 Advanced Installation 10 Execution Server Setup 15 Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 18 Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Maintenance 22 Parallel Installations 22 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help 5

Overview Overview Standard Installation Advanced Installation Execution Server Silk Performer Monitor Workbench This chapter explains the setup options that are available when installing Silk Performance Manager 18.5. The setup you choose depends on the application environment you want to create and the resources that are available to you. The Silk Performance Manager 18.5 setup program enables you to install all Performance Manager software components on a single computer or install components individually on separate computers. To install Silk Performance Manager 18.5, your computer system must meet the requirements outlined in Pre-Installation Requirements. The installation program checks that your system meets these requirements and then enables you to install all necessary software. Warning It is essential that you ensure that only one application server is connected to a specific Performance Manager database (repository). Connecting multiple application servers to a single Performance Manager database will result in data inconsistency. Standard Installation setup installs a complete Silk Performance Manager 18.5 system on a single computer. It requires minimal user input as it automatically configures a local Web server, application server, chart server, and execution server. This installation type is ideal for demonstration purposes. Advanced Installation setup gives you full control over the Silk Performance Manager 18.5 installation. This option must be used if you plan to set up a distributed environment. Note If setup finds an Internet Information Server installation, it will be selected as the default Web Server for hosting the Performance Manager home page. For details on setting up SSL on the Silk Performance Manager Web server, see the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help. Selecting the Execution Server option installs a Performance Manager execution server on your machine. This option can be used to set up distributed test/monitoring execution computers. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 uses Silk Performer Monitor Workbench for creating monitor scripts. Silk Performer Monitor Workbench is available as a separate setup package. For more information about Silk Performer, see the accompanying documentation. 6 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Note A log file is generated during the installation process. If errors occur during installation, or if you experience problems accessing Silk Performance Manager 18.5, this log file may contain information that will be helpful in identifying the cause of the problems. You can access the installation log file at the following location: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\SPM<version>.l og Alternative If the InstallShield Wizard fails to update a file during the installation (for example, if a system library is locked by Windows) you will be prompted to restart your computer so that the changes can take effect. If you do not restart your computer you may experience problems when accessing Performance Manager. Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Considerations When upgrading to a new version of Performance Manager, please be aware of the following facts: If you need to upgrade additional execution servers after the initial upgrade path, re-start the application server and refresh the UI. Ignore any error messages that may display. See Upgrading execution servers for more information. Information that is stored in the database, such as monitors and schedules, is automatically retained during the upgrade. However, information in manually edited configuration files is not retained. Therefore, these files must be backed up before upgrading, and the corresponding files in the upgrade must be edited manually to retain the changes. The timezone of the application server influences the daylight savings time (DST) of schedule exclusions and blackout periods that you have defined. It is therefore important that the timezone of your application server is set correctly. It is recommended that you specify the application server s timezone. Proceed as follows: a b In the conf\appserver folder of the Silk Performance Manager directory on the application server, create a new file named dbupgrade.properties. Open the dbupgrade.properties file with a text editor and add the following line: 18 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Upgrading execution servers exclusion.timezone = <timezone code> <timezone code> is any valid Java timezone code. A sample list of timezone codes can be found at http://www.amcon-luxled.com/time/ zones.html. Example: exclusion.timezone = PST c Save and close the file. d Restart the application server service. If the current version contains new canned reports that were not available in the previously installed version, these new reports will not be available in your existing projects when you re-connect to an existing repository. To make new reports available in an existing repository, proceed as follows: Create a new project. A newly created project automatically contains all canned reports, thus making new reports available within the newly created project. To minimize the downtime when upgrading your distributed Performance Manager installation, an automated procedure for simultaneously upgrading all execution servers is available. Before you begin: You need the administrator password for the Performance Manager server. Back up your database. Important: Do not uninstall any Silk Performance Manager components before you have upgraded your execution servers. If you do, you will have to upgrade each execution server manually. The procedure below also applies to patch updates. Note This procedure cannot be performed on an execution server that is installed on the same host computer as Performance Manager. If the user attempts to upgrade such an execution server, the following error message is displayed: Other servers installed no upgrade possible (<version information>) Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help 19

Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Procedure To upgrade execution servers to Silk Performance Manager 18.5: 1 On the Performance Manager application server, create a folder named "upgrade" in the current Silk Performance Manager root directory of your application server. Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\silk\silk Performance Manager 18.5\upgrade\ 2 If you are not using the default installation path, locate the file Install.iss in the "execution server only" Web setup package and open it in a text editor of your choice. Locate the szdir tag and define the directory to which the execution server should be installed. Note If you are upgrading to a patch version, the name of the.zip archive differs from the names outlined above. 3 Copy the setup package to the new upgrade directory on your application server. Note If you are upgrading to a patch version, the name of the.zip archive differs from the names outlined above. 4 Log on to the Silk Performance Manager web console as an administrator. 5 Select the Administration/Upgrade tab. The Available Packages list displays the patch that you copied to the upgrade directory. 6 Click the package name to continue to the execution server overview. All active execution servers are listed. Note Deactivated execution servers will not be upgraded. If you want to exclude certain execution servers from the upgrade, make sure to deactivate them before continuing the version upgrade process. 7 Click Start Upgrade and confirm the following message. 8 The Upgrade Status page shows the current status of each execution server s upgrade progress. Use your browser s Refresh button to refresh the displayed information. 9 If an error occurs, the respective step is marked with a red X. You can mouse-over the icon to view the error that has occurred. After fixing the error, click Retry in the Action column to try again. 10 When all execution servers have been upgraded, the Switch link is clickable. Click this link to reboot all execution servers and confirm the following message. 20 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

Upgrading to Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Upgrading other servers 11 Wait until all execution servers have rebooted. Use your browser s Refresh button to view the current status. If the Version Info column displays the message "Error while retrieving status info", the execution server is still in the process of rebooting. Note If an execution server is started with "Run as process", the application server will not receive a response from the execution server because it is waiting for login credentials. For such execution servers, you must login on the machine before it is responsive. 12 After all execution servers have been upgraded, you can proceed to upgrade the application, front-end, and chart server(s) (see the following procedure). Procedure To upgrade application, front-end, and chart server to Silk Performance Manager 18.5: 1 Back up your Performance Manager repository (database) before you begin upgrading to a new version. 2 If you have made changes to any of the XML-based configuration files in your current installation s /conf directory, or have added new files to this directory, you should make a backup copy of the /conf directory before proceeding. 3 Remove the current installation of Silk Performance Manager s front-end server, application server, and chart server (see Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Maintenance for detailed information). Skip this step if you want to install Silk Performance Manager 18.5 while retaining the previous installation. See Parallel Installations if you choose this approach. 4 Install Silk Performance Manager 18.5 front-end server, application server, and chart server (see Advanced Installation for detailed information). 5 The database settings will automatically be updated, however some advanced configuration settings (for example, displaying the host name in the browser title bar) must be edited manually in the new configuration files with a text or XML editor. For detailed information about advanced settings in the configuration files, consult the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help. Before editing your XML files, make sure that the front-end server service is stopped. 6 After editing your configuration files you must restart the front-end server service. Consult the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help for detailed information about stopping and starting services. Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help 21

Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Maintenance 7 After installing the front-end server, application server, and chart server components, you need to connect to the database. This is simply done by entering the correct data on your Web front-end (see the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help for detailed information). Note Your existing database is automatically updated to the current version when you connect. This can take up to several hours, depending on the size of the database and the release of Performance Manager from which you are upgrading. Silk Performance Manager 18.5 Maintenance Uninstalling Performance Manager Windows Installer enables you to remove installed applications. Procedure To remove Performance Manager components: 1 On the Windows Taskbar, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. 2 Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. The Add/Remove Programs dialog appears. 3 In the list of software that can automatically be uninstalled by Windows, locate and select the Silk Performance Manager 18.5 icon. 4 Click the Uninstall/Change button and follow the instructions of the setup wizard. Parallel Installations When installing Silk Performance Manager 18.5 on a computer where a previous version of Performance Manager is already installed, the server services of both versions are launched on start-up. Having two versions of Performance Manager services installed may be desired if you consider a fall-back to the previous version. However you must manually define which services you want to be active, as active identical services of both versions will conflict with each other. Note When you remove the older version of Performance Manager from your computer, the silkroot IIS folder, which is needed by the newer version, is also removed. Therefore the IIS configuration is broken and you need to perform a repair of the new version before the system is usable again. This issue does not occur when you uninstall the older version before installing the new one. 22 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

Parallel Installations Procedure To disable Performance Manager services 1 Shut down all services of the installed version of Performance Manager that you do not want to be active. Do this by using the Windows Services Manager. 2 Change the service Startup Type of the services you want to disable from Automatic to either Manual or Disabled. 3 Manually restart the Performance Manager services that you want to be active. 2 Choosing 2Chapter a Database Introduction What you will learn This chapter provides an overview of the database systems that are supported by Performance Manager. This chapter contains the following sections: Section Page Overview 25 Choosing a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) 26 Configuring Your RDBMS 26 Database Size Calculation 27 Overview Repositories can only be configured by a System Administrator (see the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help for more information regarding user roles). Once you have installed and configured your Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and installed Silk Performance Manager 18.5, you can create one or more repositories, or connect to existing repositories. For more information about working with repositories, see the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help. Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help 25

2 CHOOSING A DATABASE Choosing a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) Choosing a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) To create or access Silk Performance Manager repositories, you must identify which type of database system you want to use. For instructions about connecting to a database, please refer to the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help. Note See the Release Notes for details regarding the databases that are supported by each Silk Performance Manager product. RDBMS Pre-Requisites Server distribution Required information It is recommended that you not install Silk Performance Manager and the RDBMS software on the same machine. The following table describes what you need for each database type. RDBMS Microsoft SQL Server Have ready Server host name and port number. MS SQL Server system username or Windows domain\username, and password. Name for your Silk Performance Manager 18.5 repository. Name of your Silk Performance Manager 18.5 database user and password. Configuring Your RDBMS This section lists additional RDBMS-specific information that you should be aware of when using Silk Performance Manager 18.5. Note If you plan to upgrade your RDBMS, make sure you stop all Performance Manager services first to avoid result writing activity. Consult the Silk Performance Manager Administration Help for detailed information about stopping and starting services. 26 Silk Performance Manager Installation and Setup Help

2 CHOOSING A DATABASE Database Size Calculation Microsoft SQL Server Notes Database user privileges Windows authentication users for SQL Server are supported. To connect to SQL Server with a Windows user account, enter the Username in Silk Performance Manager including the domain information in the format <domain>\<username>. Install and setup Microsoft s SQL Server as described in your RDBMS documentation. Once you ve installed Microsoft SQL Server, you are ready to install Silk Performance Manager 18.5. Using the database administrator user for maintaining your Silk Performance Manager repository is not recommended due to security risks. If MS SQL Server is your DBMS for Silk Performance Manager, the following database roles (database user privileges) for your Silk Performance Manager repository allow you to work with Silk Performance Manager: db_owner db_ddladmin Either of these two roles allow for creating and configuring repository tables, for working with an already created database, and for installing and upgrading the software. Giving less privileges to the Silk Performance Manager database user will result in errors. Database Size Calculation This section helps you estimate needed disk space for the database server. As data is collected, the database grows in size. The following rules of thumb apply: A measure consumes approximately 100 bytes in the database, while each page timer will require approximately 300 bytes. Health rates have an additional three measures for each transaction. The database size in the example below comes to approximately 175 MB per month. This already includes some TrueLogs on Error.
