Users who want to install Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones software (also referred to as Intellisync Lite) and the NEC USB driver software should read this installation guide. Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones is an application that allows you to perform a twoway synchronization of records between your NEC Wireless Phone s PIM (Personal Information Manager) and PIM on your computer. Changes that are made on your phone and your computer are updated on both platforms after performing synchronization utilizing Intellisync Lite. The NEC Wireless Phone PIM includes the phonebook contacts, Scheduler calendar, and To Do tasks. Intellisync Lite allows you to configure and define settings for performing synchronization between your NEC Wireless Phone and a computer. Your settings are saved and used during synchronization. See Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones User Guide for configuration and setting information. If you prefer the Intellisync Full version software, it is available at www.nechdm.com for your purchase. NEC USB Drivers The NEC USB drivers software contains files that assist with the bi-directional flow of data between the NEC Wireless Phone and Intellisync Lite during the synchronization process. The NEC USB drivers software is located in the USB_Drivers folder of the assets folder on the CD that came in the NEC Wireless Phone package. The NEC USB drivers are also used for the functions of using the NEC Wireless Phone as a modem with GPRS Dial Up and the wireless phone s audio and picture files with Memory Editor software. Refer to the GPRS Dial Up User Guide and Memory Editor User Guide at www.nechdm.com. 1

Hardware and Software Requirements The following lists describe the system requirements to install Intellisync Lite on a personal computer. Hardware Requirements Processor: 133 Mhz or higher RAM: 24MB for Windows 98SE (Second Edition); 32 MB for Windows Me; 64MB for Windows 2000; 128MB for Windows XP Drives: Hard Disk with 30MB available Supported Connections: USB Software Requirements Microsoft Windows 98SE (Second Edition) and latest versions (Windows Me, 2000, and XP) Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones software NEC USB drivers software Supported PIM Microsoft Outlook 97/98/2000/XP 3
Read this chapter to learn: How to install Intellisync Lite for NEC Wireless Phones How to connect the USB cable and NEC Wireless Phone to the computer. How to install the USB driver software. Who to contact regarding technical support and assistance. Installing Intellisync Lite NOTE: For Windows ME. When the NEC HDM CD is inserted into the CD-ROM drive, the auto-start window may display the contents of the CD. This auto-start application may interfere with the installation and un-installation of Intellisync Lite, particularly in a Windows ME Operating System. Therefore, close the auto-start window. Do not install Intellisync Lite software from the auto start window. Follow the instructions provided for Windows ME in each of the instruction steps. For All Windows Operating Systems. Any other applications, including but not limited to other synchronization applications, which interact with Microsoft Outlook, may interfere with the normal operation of Intellisync Lite. To install Intellisync Lite: 1. Insert the NEC Wireless Phone CD into the CD drive. The auto-start window displays. For Windows ME, close the auto-start window if it displays. 2. Click on INSTALL SYNC SOFTWARE, except for Windows ME installation. For Windows ME and if the auto start window does not automatically display for other Windows Operating Systems: Open Windows Explorer. NOTE: If the Folders list does not display in a left column, click on the Folders icon in the toolbar. Expand My Computer (click on the + in front of My Computer). Select CD- ROM drive folder and assets folder. Double-click the executable icon for Intellisync Lite. 3. Follow the InstallShield Wizard screen instructions. 4
Intellisync Lite is installed to: C:\Program Files\Pumatech\Intellisync For NEC Wireless Phones If you want to specify a different location, click the Browse button and identify the location that you want the software installed. After installing Intellisync Lite, the application starts running and an icon displays in the system tray (located at bottom right of the monitor screen) Application is running (no red bar through icon). Application is not running (red bar through icon). 4. Leave the CD in the CD driver to install the USB drivers. To uninstall Intellisync Lite, refer to Uninstall Intellisync Lite for NEC Wireless Phones on page 19. 5
Connecting the USB Cable and NEC Wireless Phone Before installing the USB drivers, connect the USB cable to your computer and NEC Wireless Phone: 1. Find the location of the USB port on your computer, usually located at the back of the CPU (central processing unit) or case. Some computers have it located on the front. 2. Insert the computer end of the USB cable into the computer s USB port. 3. Gently squeeze the release clips on each side of the USB plug and insert the plug into the adapter port of the NEC Wireless Phone. Be sure that the rectangular opening on the connector is lined up with the rectangular opening in the phone. The plug will slide easily into the phone. DO NOT FORCE THE PLUG! 4. Press the (On-Off) key to power-on the NEC Wireless Phone. Plug into USB Port on PC Insert Release Clips 6
Installing NEC USB Driver Software After connecting the USB cable to your computer, the wizard screen should display. If the wizard does not automatically display: Ensure the CD is still in the CD drive. (Depending on your Windows operating system) Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, and Add Hardware to display the Add New Hardware Wizard screen or Found New Hardware Wizard screen. Follow the instructions for your particular operating system. Windows 98SE (Second Edition) To install the USB drivers to Windows 98SE (Second Edition) when the first Add New Hardware Wizard screen displays: 1. Click Next to continue to the next screen. 7
2. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 3. Click the check box beside Specify a location. 4. Click Browse to display the Browse for Folder dialogue box. 8
5. Select the CD drive, assets, USB_Drivers, and Win98. Click OK to return to the Add New Hardware Wizard screen. 6. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 9
7. Click Finish and another Add New Hardware Wizard screen displays to install the next USB driver. 8. Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) will display four (4) more sets of the Add New Hardware Wizard screens to install the remaining USB drivers. Continue to click on Next and Finish until the Add New Hardware Wizard screen no longer displays. NOTE: Windows 98 SE displays a total of five sets of wizard screens to install the three USB drivers. NOTE: If you want to uninstall the NEC USB drivers, be sure to read the Uninstall NEC USB Drivers instructions on page 19. 10
Windows ME To install the USB drivers to Windows ME when the first Add New Hardware Wizard screen displays: 1. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 11
2. Click Finish and another Add New Hardware Wizard screen displays to install the next USB driver. 3. Windows ME will display four (4) more sets of the Add New Hardware Wizard screens to install the remaining USB drivers. Continue to click on Next and Finish until the Add New Hardware Wizard screen no longer displays. NOTE: Windows ME displays a total of five sets of wizard screens to install the three USB drivers. NOTE: If you want to uninstall the NEC USB drivers, be sure to read the Uninstall NEC USB Drivers instructions on page 19. Windows 2000 To install the USB drivers to Windows 2000 when the first Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays: 1. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 12
2. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 13
3. Click the check box beside CD-ROM drives. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 4. Click Next to continue to the next wizard screen. 14
5. Click Finish and another Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays to install the next USB driver. 6. Windows 2000 will display two (2) more sets of Found New Hardware Wizard screens to install the remaining USB drivers. Continue to click on Next and Finish until the Found New Hardware Wizard screen no longer displays. 7. The following screen may display during the USB installation on Windows 2000. If it displays, click Yes to continue the installation. NOTE: Windows 2000 displays a total of three sets of wizard screens to install the three USB drivers. NOTE: If you want to uninstall the NEC USB drivers, be sure to read the Uninstall NEC USB Drivers instructions on page 19. 15
Windows XP To install the USB drivers to Windows XP when the first Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays: 1. Click Next to continue. The Hardware Installation dialogue box displays. 16
2. Click Continue Anyway to continue with the Found New Hardware Wizard screen. The USB drivers will begin to be downloaded. When downloading is complete, the last wizard screen displays. 17
3. Click Finish and another Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays to install the next USB driver. 4. Windows XP will display two (2) more sets of the Found New Hardware Wizard screens to install the remaining USB drivers. Follow the previous USB driver instructions for Windows XP for each set of the Found New Hardware Wizard screens. (Click on Next, Continue Anyway, and Finish.) NOTE: If you want to uninstall the NEC USB drivers, be sure to read the Uninstall NEC USB Drivers instructions on page 19. Opening Application After installing required software, to open Intellisync Lite: Select Start\Programs\Pumatech\Intellisync for NEC Wireless Phones\Intellisync for NEC Wireless Phones Configuration and Setting Information Refer to the Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones User Guide for configuration and settings information. You are ready to perform synchronization when: The Intellisync Lite and the USB drivers are properly installed and configured. The USB cable is attached to the NEC Wireless Phone and the computer. The NEC Wireless Phone is powered on. The red bar on the Intellisync Lite icon disappears ( ). Uninstall Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones To uninstall Intellisync Lite For NEC Wireless Phones application from your computer: 1. Select Start\Programs\Pumatech\Intellisync for NEC Wireless Phones. 2. Select Uninstall Intellisync for NEC for Portable Phones. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. 19
Chapter 3. Begin Using Uninstall NEC USB Drivers To uninstall the NEC USB drivers software from your computer: 1. Insert the Wireless Phone CD into the CD drive. If the CD folder does not automatically display to show the files contained on the CD, select Windows Explorer, My Computer, and the CD driver folder. 2. Select assets folder, USB_Drivers folder, UnInst folder, and UninWnus icon. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. NOTE: If you uninstall the NEC USB drivers using any other method and decide to reinstall the NEC USB drivers software at a later time, you will encounter installation problems. Therefore, be sure to follow the instructions to uninstall the NEC USB drivers software. 20
