Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Introduction This chapter lists the minimum hardware and software requirements for Unified Messenger. Check your hardware and software requirements before installing Unified Messenger. You are advised to configure Unified Messenger on higher performance servers depending on the port range that will be supported. For configuration suggestions, please consult your Unified Messenger support representative. 1-2 101-1621-009

Hardware and software requirements Minimum Voice server requirements Table 1-1 lists the minimum recommended hardware requirements for installing the Voice server under Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Windows NT4. Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Introduction You must have installed your hardware platform, voice boards and pre-requisite software before starting the tasks listed in this chapter (see Chapter 1, Hardware and software requirements. ) Complete the procedures in this chapter before installing the Unified Messenger server software (see Chapter 3, Unified Messenger software installation wizard. ) Important:! If you are using Microsoft Exchange 5.5, Unified Messenger V4 installation requires you to reboot the Exchange server. (See Exchange 5.5 extensions and Subscriber Administration Extension on page 3-10.)! MS-Exchange Administrator must be shut on the Exchange server before you start the installation. If MS-Exchange Administrator is open during the installation, you will have to restart the machine to complete installing Unified Messenger. 2-2 101-1621-009

Pre-installation tasks Creating the Voice Mail Domain Container (page 2-9) is required if you are using Windows 2000 with Active Directory and have not assigned the Unified Messenger service account sufficient privileges to create container objects at the base location for the voice mail container. Note: If you are installing Unified Messenger on Windows 2000 with Active Directory for the first time, you should use the Unified Messenger Installation Wizard to update Data Schema Extensions and perform Active Directory Updates. (See Chapter 3, Unified Messenger software installation wizard. ) For more information about:! Unified Messenger, see the Unified Messenger Concepts and Planning Guide.! Installing and configuring Brooktrout drivers, see Brooktrout s RealCT Direct Software Installation and Configuration Guide, available on the Unified Messenger CD Note: The Unified Messenger voice server does not start the Brooktrout drivers automatically during start-up. If you are running these drivers, you should make the RhtInit service a dependency of the Unified Messenger voice server service. 101-1621-009 2-3

Table 2-1 shows the type of account to create. Pre-installation tasks Creating a Windows 2000 service account If you are creating a Windows 2000 account: 1. On the Active Directory machine, use Users and Computers to select the domain and container for the Unified Messenger service account. 2. Select the New User action to create a new user. 3. Assign a service account name and password. Note: You do not need to create an Exchange mailbox for this account. 4. Now set the correct permissions for this account. If you have a Windows 2000 domain, see Setting up Exchange 2000 permissions on page 2-7. If you have a heterogeneous Windows 2000 and Windows NT4 domain, see Setting up Exchange 2000 permissions on page 2-7 and Setting up Exchange 5.5 permissions on page 2-8. 101-1621-009 2-5

Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Creating a Windows NT4 service account If you are creating an NT4 account: 1. On the Exchange server, connect to the domain that will contain the Unified Messenger service account using User Manager for Domains. Note: If you need to connect to a different domain, use Select Domain. 2. To create a new user, display the user menu, and select New User. 3. Fill in the service account name and password, and click on Add. 4. Now set the correct permissions for this account. See Setting up Exchange 5.5 permissions on page 2-8. 2-6 101-1621-009

Pre-installation tasks Adding permissions to the Unified Messenger service account Before you can use the Unified Messenger service account, you must set up Exchange 2000 or Exchange 5.5 permissions. If your environment contains Exchange 2000 and Exchange 5.5 servers, you must set up both sets of permissions. For additional information about setting up permissions, see the Unified Messenger Concepts and Planning Guide. Setting up Exchange 2000 permissions If you are operating in an Exchange 2000 environment, use the procedure on page 2-7 to add the Unified Messenger service account to the following groups on the Active Directory machine;! BuiltIn/Account Operators for each domain containing user accounts to be enabled for Unified Messenger.! BuiltIn/Administrators in the domain containing the Global Catalog servers used as peer-directory servers for the Unified Messenger Server.! Users/Exchange Domain Servers for the domain containing the subscriber mailboxes. To add Exchange 2000 permissions 1. Select the Unified Messenger service account. 2. Use the right mouse button to display the menu and select Properties. 3. Select the Member Of tab and click on the Add button. These groups are selected automatically: Account Operators. Administrators. Exchange Domain Servers. 4. Click on the Add button and then click on OK. 101-1621-009 2-7

Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Setting up Exchange 5.5 permissions To set up Exchange 5.5 Site permissions for the Unified Messenger service account, add the Unified Messenger service account to the ACL in your Exchange organization at the Site and Configuration containers. To add Exchange 5.5 permissions 1. Run Exchange 5.5 System Administrator. 2. Select the Exchange site for the subscriber mailboxes to be enabled for Unified Messenger. 3. From the File menu, select Properties. 4. Click on Permissions. The Exchange site security settings are displayed. 5. Click on the Add button. 6. Select the Unified Messenger service account and click OK. 7. Select the Unified Messenger service account in the Windows NT accounts with permissions list. 8. Change the role for the account to Service Account Admin and click OK. 9. Select the Configuration container in the Exchange site that contains the subscriber mailboxes. 10. Select Properties from the File menu. 11. Select Permissions and click on the Add button. 12. Select the Unified Messenger service account, and click OK. 13. Select the Unified Messenger service account in the Windows NT accounts with permissions list. 14. Change the role for the account to Service Account Admin and click OK. 2-8 101-1621-009

Pre-installation tasks Creating the Voice Mail Domain Container This is a procedure for creating the Voice Mail Domain container and assigning it appropriate security settings. Note: To use this procedure you must install ADSIEdit. ADSIEdit is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in available as part of Windows 2000 Server and Windows Advanced 2000 Server. Perform this procedure on the Exchange server if you did not create the service account using the procedure described in Creating the Unified Messenger service account on page 2-4 and:! You are using Windows 2000.! The Unified Messenger service account does not have sufficient privileges to create container objects at the Voice Mail Domain base location. Note: The service account should have Administrator privileges. To assign security settings to the Voice Mail Domain container 1. Run the ADSIEdit Windows 2000 support tool. 2. Connect to the Domain NC of the domain containing the Unified Messenger service account. 3. Locate the base location for the Voice Mail Domain container. Give the container the name Octel and click Next > Note: The name of the container is case sensitive. 6. Display the properties for the new container. 7. This displays the Unified Messenger Installation screen (Figure 3-1). Click on the suboptions. symbol to expand the menu options and display Note that the checkbox for Mailbox Monitor server is disabled. Mailbox Monitor is installed by default if you install Call Me or Message Waiting Indicator. If system components are missing, the installer recommends that you run System Upgrade to install the missing components. (See Running System Upgrade on page 3-15.) Important: If Windows Installer is loaded on the system, the Ignore button is enabled and you can choose to continue the installation without upgrading. If Windows Installer is not loaded on the system, the Ignore button is disabled and you must run System Upgrade. If you are using Octel Analog Networking, you must also add Octel Analog Networking classes and attributes to the Schema.! If you are installing Unified Messenger in a child domain, the account must have Domain Admin rights for both the parent domain and the child domain.! If the Active Directory update is executed from the child domain controller, enter the account name in the format: Parent Domain\Domain Admin. Note: If you are running Windows 2000 with Active Directory on the Voice server, you must update the Active Directory Data Schema before installing any of the components of Unified Messenger. 1. Unified Messenger software installation wizard Running System Upgrade The System Upgrade screen (Figure 3-1) appears if additional components of the operating system are required. If the Windows Installer is not present, you must run System Upgrade. If Windows Installer is present on the system, you can choose to ignore system upgrade and continue with the installation. If you only upgrade one component from the list, the System Upgrade screen reappears after the system is rebooted. To run System Upgrade 1. Select the Run System Upgrade button. The Operating System Upgrade screen appears (Figure 3-4). Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Introduction The Voice server installation installs the Voice server and Octel Analog Networking. The first Voice server on which you install the software creates a Voice Mail Domain on the Microsoft Exchange server. You can then install Voice server software on other machines and add them to the same Voice Mail Domain, or create another Voice Mail Domain. Octel Analog Networking is disabled by default after installation. It can be enabled from Voice Mail System Configuration (VMSC) if required. See the Unified Messenger Concepts and Planning Guide for more information. 4-2 101-1621-009

Installing the Voice server Preparations Make these preparations before you start the installation procedure.! To ensure a successful installation, have the following information ready: domain name where the Voice server account is located. account name. password. Important: Run the Voice server installation from an account that has Administrators permission for the domain where the voice server machine is located.! For the Voice server, ensure that Microsoft Outlook is set up as the default mail client on the system.! Check that you have the correct permissions to perform this installation. For more information, see Adding permissions to the Unified Messenger service account on page 2-7.! Install the Microsoft Exchange System Management tools on every machine where a Voice server that has an Exchange 2000 peer server will be installed.! Installing the Voice server Voice server configuration If you select an Exchange 2000 peer Exchange server, the peer directory server must be in the same Active Directory forest. If you select an Exchange 5.5 peer Exchange server, the peer directory server must be in the same Exchange site. It is recommended to use the same server as a peer Exchange server and a peer directory server. Note that if you use a peer Exchange server running version 5.5, you must also install service pack 3. To select a peer Exchange server 1. When the system has been rebooted, log in to the operating system. Voice server configuration runs automatically and the screen shown in Figure 4-11 appears. To select a peer directory server The Peer Directory Server is The system hosting the Global Catalog in a Windows 2000 environment. The Exchange server in an NT4 environment. 1. If you are running: Exchange 2000, enter the name of your Global Catalog server. Exchange 5.5, the peer Exchange server name appears. Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Introduction Important: If you have the Callback Notification server from a previous version of Unified Messenger installed, you must uninstall the Callback Notification server before installing the Call Me server. (See Removing or repairing Unified Messenger software on page 14-1 for information about uninstalling the Callback Notification server.) The Call Me server allows subscribers to be called when messages meeting specified criteria arrive in their mailbox. For performance reasons it is recommended, but not mandatory, to install the Call Me server on a machine other than the Voice server machine.to reduce the load on Exchange, it is recommended that the MWI server and Call Me server are installed on the same machine, and share the same Mailbox Monitoring service. Install the Call Me server and the Mailbox Monitor server software on the system you wish to use as a Call Me server. Mailbox Monitor is a prerequisite for Call Me server. The Installation Wizard automatically installs Mailbox Monitor with Call Me server. For additional information about Call Me, see the Unified Messenger Concepts and Planning Guide. Unified Messenger 4.02 Installation Guide Introduction Install the Message Waiting Indicator server and Mailbox Monitor server software on the system you intend to use as a Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) server for a Unified Messenger Voice Mail Domain. For performance reasons it is recommended, but not mandatory, to install the MWI server on a machine other than the Voice server machine.to reduce the load on Exchange, it is recommended that the MWI server and Call Me server are installed on the same machine, and share the same Mailbox Monitoring service. The MWI server allows subscribers to be alerted when messages meeting specified criteria arrive in their mailbox. Subscribers are alerted by either by a lamp indicator on their phone, or an audible tone (stutter dial-tone) when they pick up the receiver. It uses the Mailbox Monitor server for checking when new messages arrive, and an MWI service that determines when a subscriber s indicator should be set or reset. Under Voice Mail Domains, select Languages. (See Figure 12-2 on page 12-3.) A dialog box appears showing that the language is not set. 3. Post-installation tasks Configuring Active Directory Connector Use this procedure only if you are using Exchange 5.5 servers and Exchange 2000 servers as peer messaging servers in the same Voice Mail Domain. This procedure sets up a two-way connection between the Voice Mail Domain container in Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000. To configure Active Directory Connector 1. Start Active Directory Connector. 2. Select New Action, and click on Recipient Connection Agreement. 3. Enter the following information: The account name and password of an account with Active Directory connection privileges. The name of the Exchange 5.5 server to replicate with. The name of the domain controller to replicate with. The names and passwords of accounts for replication agreement authentication. The location of the Voice Mail Domain container in the Active Directory. Important: The Connection Agreement must be configured to create a new Windows NT account if the primary account for the mailbox does not exist in the domain. Upgrading Unified Messenger Upgrading the Voice server Perform these configuration tasks after a Unified Messenger Voice server upgrade. Voice server configuration To start Voice server configuration Voice server configuration starts automatically after a system reboot. 1. The screen shown in Figure 13-1 appears. This upgrades the front end database format and the database schema. Click on Next > to continue Voice server configuration. Note: This step may take several hours for a large database. Figure 13-1. If you have selected a peer directory server that is not the default peer directory server, the Resynchronize Database dialog box (Figure 13-3) appears. If any prompts are missing, the screen shown in Figure 13-4 appears. Figure 13-4. Locate Missing Prompts screen 4. Click on Next > to display the Browse for a Folder dialog box (Figure 13-5). 5. The Locate Missing Prompts screen appears. 6. Click on the Add Prompts button to install the missing prompts. 7. The progress bar that displays the progress of the prompts installation appears. When the installation finishes the User Information Upgrade screen (Figure 13-6) appears. 8. Click on Next > to prepare the Voice server with users voice-mail information from the Microsoft Exchange Directory. Upgrading Unified Messenger Reconfiguring the audio encoding format The default audio encode format has been changed from Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM) to Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). If your audio encoding format is set to ADPCM, you should use the following procedure to change it to GSM. See the Unified Messenger Concepts and Planning Guide for more information about the audio encoding format to use. To configure the audio encoding format 1. Open Voice Mail System Configuration (VMSC). 2. From the VMSC window, choose the Voice Mail Domain. 3. Choose Audio Encoding. The Audio Encoding dialog box is displayed (Figure 13-8). 101-1621-009 13-11

Under Voice Mail Text Body, edit the text that is to be added to all voice messages sent to recipients who have not installed Unified Messenger. From the Windows Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs. 2. Select the Unified Messenger component that you want to remove or repair. In this example it is the Tracing server (see Figure 14-1).
