Introduction Thank you for purchasing SYNFERNO! SYNFERNO is a powerful instrument and cinematic sound module for the NATIVE INSTRUMENTS KONTAKT 5 sampler. Main features: 300 preset kits that guarantee instant inspiration 1200 24 bit host-synced loops totalling 3 GB central mixing section with 2x parametric EQ per part seperate EDIT, FX and SEQUENCER pages comprehensive effects section with 4x convolution reverb polyphonic timestretching, MIDI hotkeys intelligent part and kit randomization per-part step sequencer with sample and loop offset awesome editing and sound-shaping capabilities mix and match loops for endless possibilities fully ACIDized WAV loops ready for any DAW 100% royalty-free We are sure you will enjoy the sounds of SYNFERNO and wish you a lot of fun using them! If you made a composition using SYNFERNO we would love to hear it just get in contact.

System Requirements SYNFERNO requires the following setup to run properly: A Windows or OS X machine at least 2 GB RAM at least 4 GB of hard drive space a Quad Core processor with 2 GHZ+ fully licensed N.I. KONTAKT 5.5 (or better) any KONTAKT 5 compatible DAW software an ASIO soundcard / audio-interface a MIDI controller keyboard is strongly recommended

Installation To install SYNFERNO, extract the contents of the downloaded archive (ZIP/RAR) to any location on your hard drive. To extract the archive use WinRAR (if you re on Windows) or StuffIt Xpander or UnRar X if you are on Mac OS X. IMPORTANT! After you re done with extracting the archive to your hard drive, go to that folder and locate a directory named Snapshots. Inside the Snapshots folder there is another folder called RA_SYNFERNO. Copy this folder to: (Windows) "C:\Users\Your Name\My Documents\Native Instruments\User Content\Kontakt" (OS X) "Macintosh HD/Users/Your Name/Documents/Native Instruments/User Content/Kontakt" Otherwise you will lose the easy and quick way of browsing SYNFERNO s preset kits using the KONTAKT Snapshots.

Launching SYNFERNO To launch SYNFERNO, open your DAW software and load an instance of KONTAKT 5. In there, navigate to the FILES tab. (Click on BROWSE if the browser doesn t show up). Head over to the folder where you have copied SYNFERNO and locate the RA_SYNFERNO.NKI file. Double click to open it.

You should now be able to browse presets using the Snapshots: Alternatively, you can browse the SYNFERNO kits using KONTAKT s Files browser. Each preset kit has been saved as a seperate NKI file.

Playing Loops SYNFERNO kits are divided into four parts: BASS, SYNTH, AMBIENT and GROOVE. Each part is color coded: BASS is RED SYNTH is GREEN AMBIENT is BLUE GROOVE is YELLOW The KONTAKT keyboard colors do reflect this for easy identification: To play a particular loop (part), simply press the desired notes on the keyboard. The harder you hit the notes on your keyboard, the louder the playback will be (VELOCITY SENSITIVE). Note that all parts respond to the same (choosen) MIDI channel. If you scroll the virtual KONTAKT keyboard to the left using the octave arrow buttons, you will find additional coloured keys: From left to right there are four green keys. These can be used to

temporarily disable/enable the FX sections for the BASS, SYNTH, AMBIENT and GROOVE parts. The FX buttons on the MIX page will dim/light up to indicate the current state. Then you have four black keys. These will hold & repeat a currently playing sequencer slice as long as they are pressed. From left to right they will affect the BASS, SYNTH, AMBIENT and GROOVE part. NOTE: The sequencer has to be enabled for this function to work. Next to the black keys you have four red, green, blue and yellow coloured keys that will trigger a volume / gate effect for the BASS, SYNTH, AMBIENT and GROOVE parts once pressed. These are ideal to chop up individual loops or the whole mix. The volume will be silent when one of these keys is released. Playing a loop again will set the volume back to 0dB.

GUI Overview When you open up SYNFERNO you will be presented with the default page which is the MIX page. From here you control the most important parameters for any part, which are: VOLUME PAN

SEMI TUNING (-12 to +12 semi tones) SPACE (convolution reverb in the FX section) EQ 1 and EQ 2 (which settings are stored per loop) SOLO (to listen to individual parts isolated) CURRENT LOOP R (randomization button) FX (enables or disables the FX section per part) SEQ (enables or disables the sequencer per part) Note that the arrow left/right loop select and R buttons have some special functions: Pressing the left/right loop select buttons on any part together with the ALT/OPTION key on your keyboard will increase or decrease the loops in ALL parts simultaneously. The function of the R (randomize) loop select buttons also depends on what keys you press on your keyboard at the same time: NO KEY: Choose a random loop from the list. SHIFT KEY: Randomize the FX and EDIT page settings only. ALT/OPTION KEY: Choose a random loop for ALL parts. SHIFT + ALT/OPTION KEY: Choose a random loop for ALL parts and randomize FX and EDIT page settings for ALL parts. Note that the R button on the BASS section also randomizes the SEQ (sequencer settings) for ALL parts when clicked together with pressed ALT/OPTION key.

The EDIT Page From here you can control aspects of the selected part like envelopes, the filter and others. The AMPLIFIER section controls the volume of the playback over time. The FILTER section controls the amount of filter cutoff over time. To use the FILTER envelope, turn the CUT knob in the FILTER MODIFIER section all the way to the left and adjust the envelope to

your liking. NOTE: Be careful with high resonance values! The MODWHEEL section can be used to set up volume and filter cutoff modulation per part, controlled by the modulation wheel on your MIDI controller keyboard. You can choose any combination of VOL (volume), LP (lowpass filter cutoff) and HP (highpass filter cutoff). Next to the MODWHEEL section is the PITCHBEND range slider. This controls the amount of semi tone shifting when using the pitch bend wheel on your MIDI controller keyboard. It can be set per part as well. To the right you have the LOOP SPEED CONTROL section. From here you can alter the tempo of the current part s loop: Choose HALF to halve the playback speed, DBL to double it and FREEZE to play back the loop at 25% of it s original length. Set it back to X1 for default 1:1 playback speed. Note that changing the playback speed while a loop is running might result in out-of-sync problems. Simply restart the loop to have it play back in sync to your DAW again. The lower section controls are for the SOLID BUS COMPRESSOR, the SATURATION, the amount of LOW CUT and the STEREO WIDTH.

The FX Page SYNFERNO comes with a comprehensive effects section: This is where you can satisfy all your effect-needs. The AUTOPAN slider controls the intensity of the built-in autopanning with a rate of around 1 Hz. The STEP FILTER is a bandpass filter that modulates the cutoff

randomly, centered at around 2 Khz. The AMT knob controls the maximum amplitude of that modulation. The STEP GATE delivers a host-synced rhythmic volume modulation with a SAW-shaped low frequency oscillator. The slider lets you change its function, ranging from OFF to 1/8 or 1/16. DEGRADE lets you apply samplerate reduction to the signal. The SKREAMER is your secret weapon for dirty and heavy distortion effects. The TONE slider controls the amount of high frequency in the distortion chain, the DRV slider controls the drive alias intensity (amount) of distortion. The MIX slider can be used to set the mix between the unprocessed and distorted signal. The GAIN slider will set the overall output of the SKREAMER effect. In the center you have the toggle buttons for the individual effects: From left to right these toggle: APAN (autopan) SFLT (step filter) DEGR (degrade) SKRM (skreamer) FLNG (flanger) SPACE (convolution reverb) DELAY You can use these to quickly enable or disable certain effects and to save CPU power if you turn of unused effects.

Note that to actually hear any choosen effect, its corresponding toggle button must be on (light up)! To the right you have the preset selector for the current part. You can choose from a list of 32 presets. The presets do affect the whole effects section including the FX toggle buttons. To let SYNFERNO choose a preset, simply press the R button!

The SEQ Page The sequencer in SYNFERNO features 32 presets which deliver a great starting point for creativity. Each part hat its own completely independent sequencer. Not only you can sequence the SAMPLE OFFSET for each currently selected loop, you can even shift the current loop. That means that each step can play one of 32 different loops starting from within the

currently active one. The SAMPLE OFFSET section in the sequencer lets you choose a sample offset (in 32th steps). This covers the whole range of the loop in 32 steps. In the LOOP OFFSET section you can shift the current playing loop up by a maximum of 32 steps. Each step can play one of 32 loops, starting from the currently selected one. Beneath the sequencer lanes you have control over 32 pre-made presets that affect both the SAMPLE and the LOOP OFFSET. Furthermore, you can set the speed of the sequencer using the RATE knob. The GATE MODE button determines how the sample offset affects the loop playback. When engaged, all steps that are 0 (zero) won t trigger a playback at that particular moment. This is useful for certain presets that would otherwise output a machine gun -style phrase. The START and END OFFSET knobs determine the start and ending points (steps) of the sequenced playback. The SLICE button let s you play the first 24 slices of the current loop on your MIDI-keyboard chromatically. Note that the sequencer must be turned off for this function to work. If you still need to adjust the tuning, you can use the SEMI knobs from the MIX page.

MIDI-Mapping & Automation In SYNFERNO, all automatable controls are pre-mapped to be visible to your DAW:

You are free to map controls to your MIDI controller as well. To do so, right-click the desired control and choose Learn MIDI CC# Automation. NOTE: There are certain controllers pre-assigned that you cannot change. Otherwise you will affect the SYNFERNO functionality! Don t re-learn or change the following controllers: CC#1 and CC#108 to CC#119.
