Install Instructions for Settlement Xpress - MRIS There is no additional charge for the software to MRIS customers; it is included in your subscription fee. The software is available on the MRIS 3.6 Release CD. You will need this CD during the install of Settlement Xpress - MRIS. STEP #1: Open your Internet Browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator). Minimize the application by clicking on the minus button in the upper right hand corner of the window. If you do not have an Internet Browser installed on your computer see Fax on Demand Document #215, Step 5 for directions on how to install an Internet Browser. NOTE: You may be prompted to close all open applications during the install process. However, do not close your Internet Browser during the install of Settlement Xpress - MRIS. STEP #2: Determine if you have a previous version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS installed on your computer. Determine if you have a version of Microsoft Access installed on your computer. Proceed with the appropriate instructions below: 1. If you know Settlement Xpress - MRIS and Microsoft Access are NOT installed, proceed with the Full Install Instructions (Step #3, Option 1). 2. If you have an older version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS installed, proceed with the Upgrade version of the instructions (Step #3, Option 2). 3. If you have Microsoft Access installed, determine which version of Microsoft Access is installed and then proceed with the Full Install Instructions that corresponds to your version of Microsoft Access (Example: You have MS Access 97 installed on your machine, then you should perform the FULL INSTALL FOR 97 USERS (Step #3, Option 1). 4. DO NOT INSTALL THE 2000 VERSION (SX_2K.exe), unless your computer is running the Microsoft Access 2000 application software. HELP! If you are not sure if you have an older version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS or Microsoft Access installed; you can search your hard drive to find out. Follow the instructions below to find out: 1. Click on Start 2. Click on Find 3. Click on Find Files or Folders 4. In the box labeled Named type Settlement*.* and click Find Now. Note 1: Make sure that the Look In: box indicates that it is searching My Computer. If it is not searching My Computer, click the down arrow and select My Computer, then click Find Now. Note 2: Change Settlement*.* to MSAccess*.* when searching for Microsoft Access on your computer. Page 1 of 5
5. In the box below, if it finds SettlementX proceed with Step 3, Option 2, the Upgrade Version instructions. 6. In the box below, if it finds MSAccess.exe (Follow these instructions to see what version is installed on your computer.) Double click on MSAccess.exe (the file name in the box below) to open the application. Click on the Cancel button. Click on the word Help from the menu bar. Select and Click About Microsoft Access. Click the OK button and then Click the X button to close the window. 7. If it stops searching and says, "There are no items to find in this view." and "0 files found", close the search window and proceed with Step 3 Option 1, Full Install instructions. STEP #3 (Option 1) FULL INSTALL FOR 97 USERS: Settlement Xpress - MRIS - Full Install Instructions (SX_97.exe): 1. Click on -Start 2. Click on Run 3. In the Open: box, type D:\mrisdocs\SX_97.exe or D:\mrisdocs\SX_2K.exe (depending on which version your system requires), then click the OK button. (If your CD-ROM is not drive D, replace the letter D with the appropriate drive letter for your PC's CD-ROM Drive.) 4. A Window will appear and say, "This will install the 1997 version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS. Would you like to proceed?" Click Yes. 5. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Install Shield Wizard will extract the necessary files. 6. The Welcome to Settlement Xpress - MRIS Installation Program window will appear, click Continue. 7. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window will appear. Settlement Xpress - MRIS is installed in the Program Files directory by default. If you wish to change the directory, click on Change Folder and make the change. Otherwise, it is recommended that you select OK to continue. 8. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window will appear, you will have three possible selections: Note: If you already have Access 97 installed you can deselect the Microsoft Access Runtime version and just install the application software. Otherwise, go ahead and install the Run-Time version of Microsoft Access. 9. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window will appear and say that the "Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup was completed successfully." click OK. 10. Click Yes to place a shortcut on your desktop. 11. A message to Restart Windows may appear. If this message does not appear go to Step #4. The message will read: "You need to restart Windows to complete the Installation." Make sure there are no floppy disks in the floppy disk drive, if there are remove them, close your Internet Browser application, and then Click Restart Windows. Once your computer has STEP #3 (Option 2) UPGRADE YOUR VERSION: Settlement Xpress - MRIS - Upgrade Version instructions: 1. Click on Start. 2. Click on Run. 3. In the Open: box, type D:\mrisdocs\Upgrade.exe then click the OK button. (If your CD- ROM is not drive D, replace the letter D with the appropriate drive letter for your PC's CD-ROM Drive.) 4. A window displaying the Settlement Xpress - MRIS Install Shield Wizard will extract files and search your PC for previous versions. 5. The Welcome to Settlement Xpress - MRIS Installation Maintenance Program window will appear, you will have three possible selections: Note: If you already have Access 97 installed you can deselect the Microsoft Access Runtime version and just install the application software. Otherwise, go ahead and install the Run-Time version of Microsoft Access. 6. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window will appear and say that the "Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup was completed successfully." click OK. 7. After the Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window closes, a DOS WINDOW titled Finished - Finish will remain open. You need to close this window by clicking on the X button in the upper right hand corner. 8. A message to Restart Windows may appear. If this message does not appear go to Step #4. The message will read: "You need to restart Windows to complete the Installation." Make sure there are no floppy disks in the floppy disk drive, if there are remove them, close your Internet Browser application, and then Click Restart Windows. A Window will appear and say, "This will install the 2000 version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS. Would you like to proceed?" Click Yes. 5. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Install Shield Wizard will extract the necessary files. 6. The Welcome to Settlement Xpress - MRIS Installation Program window will appear, click Continue. 7. The Settlement Xpress - MRIS Setup window will appear. Settlement Xpress - MRIS is installed in the Program Files directory by default. Click OK. 10. Click Yes to place a shortcut on your desktop. 11. A message to Restart Windows may appear. If this message does not appear go to Step #4. The message will read: "You need to restart Windows to complete the Installation." Make sure there are no floppy disks in the floppy disk drive, if there are remove them, close your Internet Browser applications, and then Click Restart Windows. Once your computer has STEP #4: If your computer does not prompt you to restart after you have installed Settlement Xpress - MRIS, maximize your Internet Browser Window by, clicking on the Internet Browser Button located at the bottom of your screen on your tool bar. Close the window by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner of the window. Close all other applications currently running. Make sure there are no floppy disks in the floppy disk drive, if there are remove them, and then Click Start, Shut Down, Restart Windows. Step #5 Once your computer has restarted, you are now ready to download the software update or begin using the older version of Settlement Xpress - MRIS software. Page 4 of 5
To update your version of Settlement Xpress, log onto the MRIS web site (www.mris.com) and visit the following url: http://www.mris.com/products/settlementx2.cfm. Here you will be able to download the update to the Settlement Xpress - MRIS software. You must complete one of the above install options using your CD before you can download the update to this product.
