1 Overview and System Requirements for Library Media Manager (LMM) This section contains: Product Overview 1-1 LMM Connection Configuration Overview 1-2 Product Overview Library Media Manager (LMM) is a product that allows tape libraries and tape drives to run unattended labeled backups and restores. It allows manual interaction with a GUI interface. It can communicate with NonStop NS-series Integrity systems via TCP/IP. With LMM you can schedule backups and tape cartridges can be labeled. Tape cartridges can also be imported or exported into or from the tape library, and tape drives can be loaded or unloaded. Table 1-1 shows the supported tape libraries and tape drives. Table 1-1. Library Media Manager supports SL500 and CTL700 tape libraries that have a storage capacity larger than 170 media slots. The Library Media Manager software requires HP NonStop labeled tape cartridges. In addition to being labeled magnetically, each tape cartridge must have a special external label that displays the volume ID in both a standard OCR format and a bar code. 1-1

Overview and System Requirements for Library Media Manager (LMM) LMM Connection Configuration Overview LMM Connection Configuration Overview In order for the LMM software to control a tape library, a tape library control path must be configured from a NonStop NS-series server to the tape library. The server controls the movements of the tape library s robotic arm. HP NonStop NS-Series Servers The tape library control path can be configured to run on a Fibre Channel ServerNet adapter (FCSA) on a NonStop NS-series server. If a CTL700 tape library has a SCSI interface, the control path will need to be connected to an M8201 Fibre Channel to SCSI router before connecting to a FCSA on a NonStop NS-series server. For more information on the router, refer to the M8201 Fibre Channel to SCSI Router Installation and User s Guide. Example: SCF> ADD SCSI $CTL700, SENDTO STORAGE, PRIMARYLOCATION (110,2,3), PRIMARYSAC 1, PRIMARYPORTNAME 100000E00D00F000, LUN 0 Note. LUN in SCF should be 0 for the tape library that is on Bus 0. Lun in SCF should be 2 for the tape library that is on Bus 1. Note. PORTNAME in SCF corresponds to the WWP name of the router. This name is located on the back of the device. 1-2

Control Path and Data Path Using Library Media Manager TCP/IP Ethernet Hub Windows Workstation Library Media Manager NonStop NS-Series Server FCSA and M8201 Control Path FCSA Data Path NonStop NS-Series Client CTL700 Tape Library Note. The client can also be a NonStop S-series system. The Library Media Manager solution consists of a Fiber/SCSI control path. It is plugged into a Fibre Channel ServerNet adapter (FCSA), and then to a Fibre Channel to SCSI router (M8201), and then it connects via SCSI directly to the tape library. Note. If the CTL700 tape library has a Fibre Channel interface instead of a SCSI interface, no M8201 will be needed. The control path will connect via Fiber only. The Control path is the path responsible for tape cartridge movement and library control. The Data path is for tape drives. The Data path is connected the same way the tape library is for SCSI tape drives, it is connected by fiber only for Fibre Channel tape drives. The LMM GUI runs on a PC and uses TCP/IP to communicate with the NonStop NS-series server. Commands sent from the LMM GUI via TCP/IP are intercepted by the Library Media Manager process running on the NonStop NS-series server. The process then sends the commands via the control path to the tape library. 1-3

Control Path and Data Path Using Library Media Manager The Control path and Data path for the SL500 tape library are both configured with a Fibre Channel interface. A Fiber cable connects the Control path to a FCSA on the server, and a Fiber cable also connects M8504 tape drives to a FCSA on the server. 1-4

Overview and System Requirements for Library Media Manager (LMM) HP NonStop NS-Series Servers Workstation Hardware and Software Requirements The workstation must have this hardware and software: Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, and above Internet Explorer 5.0 or later Transaction Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) 128-megabyte RAM when running Windows XP Professional CD-ROM drive 15-inch or larger SVGA monitor 800 by 600 resolution (minimum) 16 bit high color (for best picture quality) System Software Requirements The NonStop NS-series system must have this software: H06.04 or later release NonStop TCP/IP to establish a connection between the LMM GUI, LMM server, and LMM clients Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) File Transfer Protocol (FTP) For more information, refer to the SCF Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem. 1-5

In the CTL700 tape library, the maximum number of 5259 tape drives that can be configured using Library Media Manager is 20. The maximum number of CT9840-1/CT9840FC-1 tape drives is 12. In the SL500 tape library, the maximum number of M8504 tapes drives that can be configured using Library Media Manager is 14. 2-1

Place the Library Media Manager CD in the CD-ROM drive on your PC workstation. The software loads automatically. During Installation, the LMM icon shown in Figure 2-1 appears. The server controls the robot on the tape library. The client sends its requests to the server, and the server then sends the request to the tape library. The client can only communicate with the tape library through the NonStop system. Installing the LMM Client Note. You must configure the LMM server before the LMM client. The installation process of Library Media Manager (LMM) consists of installing the software, transferring files and configuring the LMM client to communicate with the selected host. The tape drives can be configured with a NonStop system. In the CTL700 tape library, the maximum number of 5259 tape drives that can be configured using Library Media Manager is 20. The maximum number of CT9840-1/CT9840FC-1 tape drives that can be configured is 12. In the SL500 tape library, the maximum number of M8504 tapes drives that can be configured using Library Media Manager is 14. 2-7

SET_SECURITY The SET_SECURITY command in the configuration to set security either off or on for the GUI. The SET_SECURITY command is set to either Y/N, see above. YES means you want security enabled. A guardian logon will be required to access the GUI and the LMM password will be required to MOUNT/DISMOUNT/LABEL and use the commands on the SERVICES tab. NO means it works with the normal security. No logon needed to access the GUI, MOUNT/DISMOUNT or label tapes. The LMM password would still be needed on the Services tab. When the GUI is accessed with SECURITY enabled, you will receive the following box that requires a valid guardian logon: 3-5

If a tape is going to be manually mounted, either with the GUI or with INTFACE MOUNT command, the label must be added to the LBL9840C file using the GUI or with the ADD9840C command. LMM will not know how that tape will be used if mounted manually so it must be in the file in case it is used for writing. This program has 3 different functions 1. Enter a single label. 2. These tape cartridges are listed on the left side of the property sheet, under Slot Inventory. The domain for each tape cartridge is listed also (domain being a CT9840-1/CT9840FC-1 tape cartridge or a DLT7000/SuperDLT tape cartridge). Each tape cartridge is externally labeled with a barcode. The tape library configuration has a list of all the drives that are inside of the tape library. There are ten drives on each panel tab; Panel 1 shows drives 1-10, and Panel 2 shows drives 11-20. Click Import all to transfer all tape cartridges out of the CAP and into the tape library. Click Refresh CAP to reflect any changes you have made to the CAP inventory. 6-6

LMM GUI Operations Media Library Tab Print Click Print on the Media Library Tab and a HTML page will appear. This page is useful for obtaining system information and troubleshooting. You can print any of this information at any time by clicking the printer icon near the top of the page or accessing the print function from the File menu. 6-7

LMM GUI Operations Services Tab Services Tab The Services Tab allows you perform services on your drives, including bringing tape drives in and out of service and renaming tape drives. LMM GUI Operations Services Tab Information available on the right side of the Services tab includes: Media Count Current Loaded State Library Configuration View the total number of each particular tape drive present in the library. View the number of drives and slots that are currently in use. View all information on the capacity of the library and the capacity of the CAP. LMM GUI Operations Services Tab View the current status of drives by looking at the legend keys to the left of the drive. To change the status/configuration of a drive or to rename a drive, click that tape drive to see the Drive configuration Menu shown in Figure 6-9 on page 6-10. At the Services tab, click a drive to view the Drive configuration dialog box for that particular drive. Figure 6-9 appears. Figure 6-9. Drive Configuration Dialog Box Under Put In Service: In the Node box, view the name of the NonStop system that is currently hosting the drive. In the Name box, view the current name of the drive as viewed by the host system. In the Address box, view the address of the tape drive within the tape library. Under Rename Drive: In the Node box, you can change the name of the NonStop system that is hosting the drive. See Renaming a Drive on page 6-11. In the Name box, you can alter the name of the drive. 6-10

LMM GUI Operations Services Tab Under Enter Password: In the Password box, enter the appropriate password to perform any service options. This password was configured during installation of LMM, during View_Config. Under Take Out Of Services, the following information is viewable only: Node Name Address Label Media Domain The Drive Configuration dialog box has four options the user can use. In the bottom left of the menu the user can select to bring a drive in or out of service, rename a drive or dismount a tape cartridge. Bringing a Drive In or Out of Service At the Drive configuration dialog box, Figure 6-9, follow these steps: 1. In the Password box, enter the correct password. 2. Under Choose an option, choose either In Service or Out Service. 3. The Services tab, Figure 6-8, reappears, reflecting the new status of your drive. Renaming a Drive At the Drive configuration dialog box, Figure 6-9, follow these steps: 1. Under Rename drive, make the appropriate changes in the Name and/or Node box. 2. In the Password box, enter the correct password. 3. Under Choose an option, click Rename. 4. The Services tab, Figure 6-8, reappears. The drive is renamed. Dismounting a Tape From a Drive The name of the NonStop system hosting the drive. The name of the drive as viewed by the host system. The address of the drive within the library. The barcode label of a tape that is mounted in the drive. The domain of the media such as Quantum or STK. Media Type The specific version of media such as SDLT or 9840. Xport Domain Xport Type Xport Serial # The manufacturer of the drive. The product number of the drive. The internal serial number of the drive. At the Drive configuration dialog box, Figure 6-9, follow these steps: 6-11

LMM GUI Operations Media Labeling Tab Follow these steps to label a tape cartridge: 1. Select a tape drive to label. All media that is compatible with the selected drive will be displayed. Note. LMM will only display drives that are connected to the same system as this particular GUI session. You can open multiple GUI sessions connected to multiple systems, if necessary. 2. Select ON or OFF for Override. Selecting Override as ON will override any existing label that the tape may have. 3. Under Label Type, select ANSI, BACKUP, or TMF. 4. Under Media Inventory, select all the tape cartridges that are desired to be labeled. 5. Click Start Labeling. 6. Enter your host configured password. Figure 6-11. Initializing Volume Label View the Status of the current operation Tapes are labeled in the order they were selected In this example, you can see that three tapes were selected to be labeled as BACKUP: 000011, 000021, and 000022. See Figure 6-10 on page 6-13. In Figure 6-12, notice on the right side of the dialog box that tape 000011 is being labeled because it was the first tape selected. If you check the Queue Manager Tab, you will see that the other two tapes are queued to be labeled. You can also check the EMS Log Tab to view the event messages as they occur. 6-15

Follow these steps to Set Defines and use Figure 6-17 as an example. Figure 6-17. In the Media Type box, from the drop-down menu, select a cartridge type. In the Volume box, from the drop-down menu, select as many volumes as necessary to complete the backup. In the Label Type box, from the drop-down menu, select the type of backup. In the Retention Days box, choose the number of days you would like for the backup to be retained. 6-22

In the Terminal Name box, it is recommended to leave the default value. In the Output Name box, it is recommended to leave the default value. In the Block Size box, from the drop-down menu, it is recommended to leave the default value. 3. Enter the appropriate information. 4. Click Next. 6-23

You can also alter the script to perform any functions that are not able to be performed through the GUI, such as TAPE_CATALOG. 5. Click Finish. 6. When the Scheduler tab reappears, if you are Creating an Immediate backup, click Start Backup (See Figure 6-20). If you are Creating a Scheduled Backup, continue to Step 6 of Create a Scheduled Backup. 6-24

At this point, you can edit the backup as you see fit. From the drop-down menus, you can change the Cycle, Hour, and/or the Start Date. You can also delete the backup entirely by clicking Delete Backup. 4. Make the appropriate changes and click Start Backup. 6-29

LMM GUI Operations Queue Manager Tab Queue Manager Tab The Queue Manager tab displays all the tape labels that have been active. You can delete a selected item or all items. When Delete All is selected all the items are deleted. 6-30

LMM GUI Operations EMS Log Tab EMS Log Tab The EMS Log is an Event Messaging Service of the NonStop system. It shows the date and time that each event takes place. See Figure 6-25. Figure 6-25.
