Questionnaire ESSNET - COMMON REFERENCE ARCHITECTURE () QUESTIONNAIRE Date due: 22-February-2010 Background: The main objective of the ESSNET () project is to define a common architecture, starting from the GSBPM model, flexible and modular, which can be easily changed and permitting different parties to contribute to the implementation and different organisations to be free to use the modules they need. The architecture is intended to facilitate software sharing. This questionnaire is designed to ask NSIs about requirements and shared software. The IT Directors Group has given support to the conducting of this survey (ref. minutes of the ITDG meeting, 21-22 October 2009). Final versions of the Set of requirements and the State of the art analysis for the COmmon Reference Architecture will be publicly available in April 2010. Individual results regarding software will be published on the Software Sharing part of the MSIS (Management of Statistical Information Systems) wiki (http://www1.unece.org/stat/platform/display/msis/software+sharing). Those respondents that complete this questionnaire will receive a copy of the Set of requirements and the State of the art analysis reports by email. They will also receive a copy of the individual results from all the other respondents. Instructions for completion: The questionnaire is divided into 7 sections. Each section comprises a table with questions in the left hand column (in bold). The right hand column contains ubquestions (in bold) and space for answers. The questionnaire is flexible: a) If there appears to be no place for certain information, then please add extra lines. b) If the single choice categories are inadequate, then please provide some explanatory text. c) If the information requested is unavailable in English, but it is available in another language, then please provide the information requested in the available language. 1 INTRODUCTION Question 1.1 Organisation name Answer and/or subquestion 1.2 Organisation structure For example attach a diagram or provide a link showing the high-level structure of the organisation 29/01/2010 1.0 4 of 20
1.3 Organisation size Number of employees (number of heads) in your organisation: 1.3 Information about those who have filled out this questionnaire The respondents (collectively) have experience from (cross all that apply) IT Business processes Statistical methodology 2 STATISTICAL BUSINESS PROCESS MODELS For each respondent please provide the following Name: Organisational unit: Email: Generic Statistical Business Process Model (GSBPM) v4 of METIS (The joint UNECE / Eurostat / OECD Group on Statistical Metadata) The original intention of the GSBPM was to provide a basis for statistical organizations to agree on standard terminology to aid their discussions on developing statistical metadata systems and processes. The use of this model can also be envisaged in other separate, but often related contexts such as harmonizing statistical computing infrastructures, facilitating the sharing of software components, and providing a framework for process quality assessment and improvement. The GSBPM comprises four levels: Level 0, the statistical business process; Level 1, the nine phases of the statistical business process; Level 2, the sub-processes within each phase; Level 3, a description of those sub-processes. The following diagram shows the phases (level 1) and sub-processes (level2) and the two overarching process Quality management and Metadata management that apply throughout the statistical business process. 29/01/2010 1.0 5 of 20
