Intelspace SA IntelSpace Innovation Technologies S.A. was founded in 2005 as a spin-off of the Urban and Regional Innovation Research Unit (URENIO) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The company focuses on development and exploitation of digital applications and tools in the fields of innovation management, digital cities, and intelligent environments.

Intelspace SA: Main Services Research and development on issues regarding innovation and knowledge management, technology transfer, business and strategic intelligence. Design and development of digital cities, intelligent clusters, cities, and regions. Design and development of online innovation management tools and virtual innovation environments. Provision of services and consulting to enterprises of the private and public sector and to all level of governmental bodies with regard to the development and management of innovation, the development of new products, the transfer of technology, the evaluation of products and technologies, the marketing and the digital promotion of products. Creation and distribution of specialized software applications in all the above mentioned vertical market sectors. The Issue Designing and implementation of the Digital City of Thermi Digital Thermi was conceived as a combination of a broadband Wide Area Network (WAN) with a web based application platform. This combination of network and services is planned to assist the operation of the Municipality of Thermi, the established enterprises, the citizens and its visitors.

Scenario component 1: Solution to networks The backbone network as well as the user access network based on Wi-Fi protocol. Total estimated implementation cost 68.430,00 The backbone network implemented using fibre optics, while the end user access network the Wi-Fi protocol. Total estimated implementation cost 18.176.580,00

Scenario component 2: Target Groups The whole area that municipality covers, wired by the proposed network Central area points in the different settlements covered by Wi-Fi networks, while all the citizens have access to the applications via their domestic Internet connections.

Scenario component 3: Services Implementation of all the proposed applications. Total estimated cost 1.866.039,00 Initial development of five core applications each of them covering a basic component of the city, such as: democracy, governance, business operations, information, and tourist promotion. Total estimated cost 609.400,00

Evaluation Criteria Citizens feeling of satisfaction is improved. Democracy is extended and enhanced. The efficiency of governance is increased while simultaneously reducing operational costs. Economic activity and commercial viability are increased.

The Application Modules e-democracy Module provides information regarding the activities of Local Government or Municipal Authorities and allows the on-line attendance of the Municipal Council s or committees meetings (webcasts). The citizens participation in the decision-making process is achieved through their contribution to an on-line discussion forum and to public opinion polls. e-governance Module provides information regarding the services and processes of Municipality. Citizens can report a problem or query and apply for council services & opportunities (i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc).

The Application Modules e-entrepreneurship Module provides companies with online tools (such as business plan tool, marketing plan tool, and market research tool) aiming to enhance their efficiency. Furthermore, the module supports e-commerce services by permitting the promotion of their products through the city s electronic marketplace. Information Module provides updated information about the developments in selected sectors of interest, depending on the particularities of each city. The information applies to the residents as well as to the entrepreneurs that are activated in the city. It also covers the city s events.

The Application Modules e-promotion and Culture Module provides a virtual tour to the city, with the use of digital maps and panoramic images. Furthermore, contains information about the city s culture (e.g. monuments, places of interest, events etc.) that help the city s residents or visitors to organise their spare time according to their special interests.
