2016
4 YEARS Who we are Pakistan Green Building Council is a not for profit organization which campaigns for a sustainable built environment. Our mission is to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment, by transforming the way it is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated. We have network of almost 70 organizations including businesses of all sizes, government agencies, NGOs and professional bodies of Pakistan. How we deliver impact PAK-GBC s operations have a direct impact on the environment Our objectives PAK-GBC is an organization with objectives for the public and environmental benefit, which underpin all of our activities: 1. To disseminate among the public the importance of using sustainable technologies in order to achieve a sustainable environment with minimum damage to the surrounding environment. 2. Educate industry professionals in Sustainable design and construction practices 3. To promote the sustainability, conservation, protection and improvement of the built environment However, we hope that our most significant impact is the change we enable amongst our membership and the Pakistan s built environment, and it is these enabled impacts that make up the majority of this report: Influencing industry and government through our Green Guidelines Program Inspiring our members to adopt best practice and demonstrate sustainability leadership through Green Excellency Awards Program Informing industry action through our awareness sessions and educational Program
How PAK-GBC delivers impact Pakistan Green Building Council is motivated by the changes that our work can catalyze across the built environment industry as well as in our member organizations and individuals that are connected with us. In 2014 when Pakistan GBC was founded the overall area under green buildings was 5000 sq.ft, we continued to focus on our mission at each level and achieved tangible outcomes and now the overall area under green buildings is almost 7 million sq.ft. 2015-16 was not an easy year for green building practices to flourish, yet despite our relatively low traction with central Government, we continued to focus our efforts at a local level, and achieved tangible outcomes from initiatives such as Pakistan Green Building Guidelines, Green Excellency Awards and Educational program. And through our educational and awareness campaigns-ranging from students awareness sessions to LEED AP preparatory workshops we have influenced the lives of almost 500 individuals and inspired them to be part of sustainability. Pakistan Green Building Council has upgraded its membership to emerging status. World GBC endorsed the commitments and efforts of Pak-GBC and updated its membership as appreciation. Looking to the future, I feel confident that we are well positioned to continue to accelerate the transition to a sustainable built environment. I am deeply grateful to all those who enable us to make such an impact including PAK-GBC staff, Board of Directors, members and wider stakeholders. Aqrab Ali Rana Chief Executive, PAKISTAN-GBC
