This data sheet is based on the German issue. All technical and additional information are depending on the conditions and regulations of the german authorities. Their validity range does not cover foreign countries. Please note therefore divergent radio engineering could be considered. Functional description The modular telecontrol network (MFW) has been specially conceived for the interconnection of widely scattered outdoor installations, such as pump, transformer and gas regulating stations, storm-overflow reservoirs, inspection chambers and elevated reservoirs. The MFW can be operated as a fully independent, cost-effective telecontrol system or as an extension to existing telecontrol interface modules. Almost all types of cable (telephone line, three-phase current cable, cable screen, electrically isolated cable, optical fibres etc.) and various radio ranges are suitable as transmission media. This documentation describes only a small part of it: radio transmission in the 70-cm- and 35-cm-ISM-band as well as slot radio data transmission and 1:24-radio data communication. In its minimum configuration, the telecontrol system consists of a central station and an outstation. In each station at least one basic module is needed. This includes the following function groups, display and setting elements: internal radio modem RS232 diagnostics interface optionally 8 binary inputs or outputs with status LED, or an additional serial interface for protocol coupling two CAN bus interfaces for connecting the expansion modules watchdog LED and fault signalling contact DIP switches for setting the station address, module number, frequency etc. field strength display, integrated speaker, various function display LED s The basic modules can be obtained in the following variants: 1. Only one master module, whose type name contains MF-, needs to be present in the system, and is usually used in the central station. It co-ordinates the flow of data. In the MFW-system there can be used currently two master modules with the following item numbers: - MF-... - Standard telecontrol master - MD-... - Telecontrol master with data logging function 2. The outstation module, whose type name contains UF-, is used in the outstations. Currently the following outstation modules with these item numbers can be used: - UF-... - Standard telecontrol outstation - UD-... - Telecontrol outstation with data logging function in standard variant - UL-... - Telecontrol outstation with data logging function in low power variant Each basic module can be fitted with up to a maximum of 15 expansion modules in order to increase the I/O scope. These are connected via the CAN bus interface. Further information about the expansion modules can be found in the respective data sheet. Each I/O module is given a module number. The data is exchanged between modules with the same module number. The physical arrangement of the modules within the system (the station address) is of no significance at all here. The input module with number 5, for instance, transmits its data to all the output modules whose number is 5. The data exchange is event- and time-controlled. Measuring and set values, messages, commands, momentary and counting pulses are transmitted. With digital I/O modules, inputs/ outputs 1-4 are switchable between static or counting/momentary pulse. Analogue signals can be transmitted both as voltage values 0-10 V or as current values 0-20 ma. Page 2 of 8

In the event of a fault, the system detects the faulty communication and reports it via LED and relay contact both in the central station and in the respective outstation. If appropriate I/O modules are used, the accessibility of each connected station can additionally be indicated through a binary contact at any point of the radio system. If a serial interface is used, the information is also available via this interface. After the cause of the fault has been rectified, normal operation is resumed automatically. The radio telecontrol system works depending on modem used in one of the four radio frequency ranges below: 35-cm-ISM-band 70-cm-ISM-band 70-cm-timeslot radio 1:24 radio data transmission At a used transmit power of 10 mw in 70-cm-ISM-band and 500 mw in the 35-cm-ISM-band the equipment is registration-free and toll-free. Dependent on the topological conditions of the local area distances of more than 10 km are practicably. Before use of a radio transmission, in principle, the radio trunk line should be judged regarding the local conditions. We would be pleased to support you. Please do not hesitate to consult our service team. The radio telecontrol equipment of the following radio types must be registered and it is subject to a free during operation. 70-cm-band with transmit power > 10 mw timeslot radio 1:24 radio data transmission The registration must be filed at the users local PTT regulatory authority for telecommunications. Please be advised that your local conditions and restrictions can differ from the technical specification given in our brochure. Basic requirement for a proper function of the radio installation is the knowledge of the area and radio environment, as well as local conditions of buildings and power supply. This work has to be done by the buyer or end user. If there is no radio trunk line between the master station and one or several substations, other substations can be used as relay station for transmission. For the radio trunk line from the central unit to the substation arbitrary relay stations can be used. The radio transmission frequency is set via DIP-switch. This enables flexible adjustment to the local conditions. This, however, doesn t apply to the time slot and 1:24 radio data transmission. The equipment can be factory-aligned to the values provided by the users local regulatory authority. Numerous practical diagnosis tools are integrated in the modules; i.e. field strength display and an internal speaker for the check of the radio traffic on the corresponding frequency. With the diagnosis interface (RS 232) furthermore history data, status and fault information can be used. The duty cycle of the data transmission is dependend on the extension degree of the radio network (i.e. number of connected stations and possibly installed relay stations), the data volume of each station and also the used radio band. In the 70cm ISM Band the data can be cyclically exchanged constantly. In the 35 cm ISM band is this also valid though the effective transmission time of one station must not exceed 10% of the available time. For 1:24 data radio and time slot radio there are further regulations, we are pleased to providing you on request. If you have time critical applications kindly let us know to support you with detailed infor mation. Page 3 of 8
