VMware End User Computing Global Demo Environment Walkthrough Guide Summary This VMware SmartGuide has been created to give a quick start walkthrough of accessing and operating the VMware End User Computing global demonstration environment found at http://portal.vmwdemo.com This document shows you steps to perform the following tasks: Sign In To Demo Portal Demo Portal Landing Page Connect To Horizon Workspace Portal Airwatch Setup And Usage Launch RDS Apps From Workspace Portal Launch RDS Desktops From Workspace Portal Launch ThinApps From Workspace Portal App Volumes Launch Virtual Desktops From Horizon Client (PCoIP) Launch Virtual Desktops From Browser (HTML Blast) Demo Virtual Desktop Performance Use Cases Demo VROps For Horizon (V4H) Sign In To Demo Portal In a web browser, go to https://portal.vmwdemo.com. Enter your Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to

you and hit Log In. Demo Portal Landing Page After successful login you are taken to the dashboard page, you will see links under Login to your horizon environment. Using these links, can you launch Horizon Workspace (the unified workspace portal), Horizon View using a web browser, and Horizon View using the View Client (must already be installed on your local machine).

Connect To Horizon Workspace Portal It is recommended that all demonstrations start in the Unified Workspace. Click on Login to Horizon Workspace. It will launch another browser tab and take you the login page.

Enter the same EUC Demo Portal credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In.

After successful login, you will be brought to the unified Workspace where you can launch View RDS and Desktop (Windows 7 and Windows 8) sessions, as well as various RDSH and SaaS applications that have been entitled to you.

Airwatch Setup And Usage To activate your AirWatch account, login to the EUC Demo portal.

After successful login, if authorized to enroll for Airwatch, a message in a blue bar on the top of the dashboard page appears that says 'You have been provisioned an Airwatch trial account. Click here to accept the EULA and activate the trial'.

Click on the hyperlink " here " and then accept the EULA by clicking on " Yes, I accept"

Once you accept you will get an acknowledgement of successful enrollment displayed is a green bar on the top of the dashboard page. Then check your email for detailed instructions on how to proceed with activation on a mobile device. Here is the sample email showing the instructions. Keep this email handy as you'll need it to enroll your devices in AirWatch.

Proceed to http://awagent.com from Safari browser on your ipad and either click on icon under step 1 to download the Airwatch MDM Agent App from the Apple AppStore if you do not have the App installed or click on link under step 2 Tap here to continue enrollment if you have the App installed.

You are then directed to the App and follow the instructions from the email to fill Server and GroupID correctly after choosing 'Continue without email address' and hit Continue

You will be redirected to a browser page for authentication. Enter your Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In.

Once authenticated you will be prompted with a series of dialogs by AirWatch to install the MDM Profile. Click Install (you may be prompted to enter your device passcode if you have one). If you get a remote management prompt, click 'Trust' to trust the AW profile. Click done when the profile is done installing.

This confirms enrollment of your device in AirWatch. Once you're enrolled go to Airwatch App and click on Status and check if the Current Status shows Device Enrolled. You will then start seeing icons pop up on your ipad home screen such as the one below to install all the default Apps your device is going to be pre configured with that you are entitled to in the App Catalog. You may visit the App Catalog later can choose to install additional apps you find there.

You should also have an email account pre configured on your mobile device. Click on the Mail App to read/send email for this account. Also now that you've enrolled your device you can login to the AirWatch SSP (Self Service Portal) to manage your devices and personal content. Login to the Workspace Portal from Safari browser and click the 'AirWatch SSP' icon on the dashboard. Single Sign On has been configured between Workspace Portal and AW SSP you should be taken directly to the SSP Landing Page.

You can view your enrolled devices in the 'My Devices' tab. As you can see, the ipad we just enrolled in the environment shows up in the list of devices. From this screen you can remotely manage your device and perform various actions on it like sending it a notification message, locating it as well as admin features like clearing the device passcode and performing an enterprise wipe on the device. We shall now demonstrate the catalog integration between Workspace Catalog and the Airwatch Catalog(only works on ios devices at present). First, log into the Workspace Portal. Look at all Desktops, RDS Apps and SaaS Apps. Next launch the App Catalog app from the ipad Home Screen. You will see that in addition to the native apps, the same apps we saw after logging in to Workspace Portal also appear in the App catalog on the ipad. Note that only Apps that have been Added explicitly in Workspace show up in the Airwatch App Catalog. We can install any of the Apps by click 'Install' next to them, confirm installation and in a few seconds the app should pop up on our ipad home screen.

We can also launch a Win7 Desktop from an ipad directly by clicking its App icon. To do this, lets go back to the App Catalog. Ensure that the AW Browser and the VMware Horizon Client and are installed. Now, install the Win7 desktop you wish to connect from the App catalog. Launch it from the home screen. (You maybe asked to authenticate using your workspace credentials) Once you're authenticated you'll be taken to your Win 7 desktop

Similarly, we can install the Socialcast SaaS app from the App Catalog and launch it from the home screen and are SSO'ed into the Socialcast web app from your ipad.

With AirWatch SCL and SCL Sync you can access and manage your files across all devices and platforms. If we save a file in AirWatch SCL Personal Content folder on your VDI Desktop and accessing it on your ipad and vice versa. This requires your Airwatch account to be activated and your mobile device to be enrolled. First, in the Win 7 VDI desktop launch SCL Sync from the Start Menu. Enter the Server URL and the Group ID by looking at the enrollment email you received. You will be asked to authenticate using your VMWDemo credentials. Enter your username and password and click Next. Click 'Finish' to complete SCL Sync configuration. Once you've configured SCL Sync, you should see a shortcut to the 'Personal Content' folder on your Desktop. This is your private content folder and any files you put in this folder will be available across all your devices as well as the AirWatch Web SSP. Lets create a sample text file in this folder. Once created, we'll give it a few minutes to sync.

Alternatively, you can choose the 'Sync Now' to force sync the folder with the AW Backend.

Now lets open the 'Content' application on the ipad. Lets browse to the 'Personal Content' tab and as you can see, the files I saved on my VDI desktop is now available on my ipad.

Lets see how this works the going from ipad to my VDI desktop where we will save a file in the Personal Content folder from my ipad and have it show up on Win7 VDI desktop. Click the 'Add' button at the bottom left. Choose Add Photo/Video. Enter the Subject and a Description choose Personal Content folder click continue. You can either use your photo library or capture an image and upload it. Once you have selected an image, click Done on the top right, select 'Import' on the next screen. The image should now be saved in the Personal Content folder. Once its done syncing, head over to our VDI desktop, open the Personal Content folder again and if necessary Sync Now again and you should now see the file you just uploaded from your ipad.

Also depending on the site you are connecting to there is AMER SCL, EMEA SCL, APAC SCL repository that users have access to. This maps I: Drive on the VDI desktops. Launch Virtual Desktops From Workspace Portal Begin with launching a View Desktop session from the Workspace portal, choosing the Windows 7 desktop pool. Depending on your portal display, hover your mouse over (AMER, EMEA, or APAC) WIN7. Then Click at bottom right corner of the icon and then on drop down next to Launch and choose... in Horizon Client.

The Horizon Client will be launched and will display the progress of your connection.

Allow Horizon Client to complete connecting to the View Connection Server and loading the desktop.

Launch RDS Apps From Workspace Portal After the Windows 7 desktop loads, click on the Horizon Workspace shortcut on the desktop. Enter the same EUC Demo Portal credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In.

Let's show how an RDSH app can be launched from Workspace and how the RDSH session can follow to other desktops and devices. Depending on your portal display, hover your mouse over Word 2013. Then Click at bottom right corner of the icon and then on Launch.

Alternatively you can also double click on the Pool. Ensure Horizon Client 3.1 is installed on VM and when prompted by your web browser, hit Open Horizon Client If further prompted Click on Allow

Allow the View Client to connect to the RDSH app and load it. After Word loads on the desktop, choose to start a new document. Type some text into the document. Toggle back to Horizon Workspace that is open on your LOCAL machine and launch a Windows 8 desktop. Depending on your portal display, hover your mouse over (AMER, EMEA, or APAC) WIN8. Then Click at bottom right corner of the icon and then on drop down next to Launch and choose... in Horizon Client.

After the Windows 8 desktop loads, click on the Horizon Workspace shortcut on the desktop. Enter the same EUC Demo Portal credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In.

From the Workspace portal page, launch Word 2013. After a few moments, you will see how your existing Word 2013 RDSH app session on the Windows 7 desktop has followed to your Windows 8 desktop.

To save your document, do a Save As in Word. Under Computer, click on Browse and you will be able to save the document to your HomeDrive located on the network file share.

Toggle back to Horizon Workspace portal that is open on your LOCAL machine and launch a Word 2013. After a few moments, you will see how your existing Word 2013 RDSH app session on the Windows 8 desktop has followed to your LOCAL machine. In the example below, Word is now running on the Mac.

If you have an ipad with the latest Horizon Client for ios installed, you can show how the RDSH app session can follow to your ipad. Launch a Safari browser. Depending on your own region, browse to https://workspace.vmwdemo.com and Enter the same EUC Demo Portal credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In. Alternatively, you can login to the View Client app by connecting to View Connection Server hv6amer.vmwdemo.com or hv6emea.vmwdemo.com, or hv6apac.vmwdemo.com (depending on your current region). After login, touch the icon to launch Word 2013.

Allow a few moments for the View Client to load the RDSH app

If your RDSH app session was still open on a different desktop, it will follow to your session on the ipad. On the ipad, you can show how to use the Unity Touch sidebar to launch other RDSH apps and launch desktops.

Launch RDS Desktops From Workspace Portal In some cases, depending on the business need, individual desktop VMs may not be needed by all users and a common RDS server may be sufficient for multiple users. Connections to RDS servers can be managed by Horizon View, allowing users to connect via PCoIP for a better end user experience compared to RDP. Ensure you have the latest Horizon View Client installed on your LOCAL machine and then Login to Horizon Workspace on your LOCAL machine and Enter the same EUC

Demo Portal credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In. Then depending on your region, launch AMER RDS, EMEA RDS, or APAC RDS. Allow the View Client to connect to and load your RDS session. Explore the Windows 2012 R2 functionality and performance. Logoff from your RDS session when done.

Launch ThinApps From Workspace Portal To use ThinApps in your Workspace, you must have the Horizon Workspace Client installed on your local machine. The View RDS, Windows 7, and Windows 8 desktops in the demo environment have the Workspace Client already installed. To show how ThinApps work, launch a virtual desktop via PCoIP or HTML5 Blast, then go to the Windows system tray, choose VMware Workspace and login with your same EUC Demo account credentials,, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and hit Sign In.

After successful login, the system tray will then display VMware Workspace is connected to your account.

Right Click on the workspace icon in the system tray and choose Open VMware Workspace web page. Then click App Center link in the upper right area of the window. We are taken to a page where we can choose which ThinApps to Add by clicking the Add App at the bottom of each App icon.

Scroll to see ThinApp named FileZilla Client, click on Add App. Wait for it to change to Added.

Click the My Apps link in the upper right area of the window to return to the My Apps display, then click on Filezilla to launch the app. Hit Allow and Run whenever prompted by Windows. Then wait for the ThinApp to launch.

App Volumes To demonstrate the ease with with we can attach and detach AppVolume with loads of Apps, from your Win7 virtual desktop, proceed to the Start >All Programs > double click the "App Volumes ATTACH LOTS OF APPS!" icon (for Win8 you search the computer for above string) on the desktop. This will result in a whole bunch of App icons being added to the desktop that the user now has access to. Launch any one newly available App.

When you done using the App, you can show that proceeding to the Start >All Programs > double click the "App Volumes DETACH LOTS OF APPS!" icon (for Win8 you search the computer for above string) on the desktop. This will result in all new App icons previously added now being removed from the desktop and the user no longer has access to them.

It is important to note we currently have writeable volumes enabled by default and the user can be logged into one one desktop at any given time. So if a user is logged in on his Win7 desktop and attempts to login into his Win8 desktop without logging off his

Win7 desktop then we will see an "Access Denied" message displayed. So it is always best practice to logoff a desktop before accessing another one. Also all profile data and programs saved or installed one desktop is readily made available when the user moves to a new desktop. Launch Virtual Desktops From Horizon Client (PCoIP) Ensure you have the latest View Client installed on your local machine and then from the Demo Portal Landing Page click on link Launch Horizon View App When prompted by View Client, enter your EUC Demo account credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password is correctly entered as was issued to you and then hit Login

There are three desktop pools available which are RDS (Windows 2012), Windows 7, and Windows 8. Double click on the desktop pool you would like to launch.

In the example below, a Win7 desktop has been launched from Horizon Client for Mac

Launch Virtual Desktops From Browser (HTML Blast) From the EUC Demo Portal Dashboard, click on the link Login to Horizon View.

Click on the link VMware Horizon HTML Access.

Enter your EUC Demo account credentials, Username (ensure you have @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password is correctly entered as was issued to you and Domain is set to VMWDEMO and then hit Login

Click on the icon for WIN7 or WIN8 to launch a HTML5 Blast session to desktop.

Your selected desktop will load in the web browser. Use the desktop and Disconnect when done using the drop down menu shown under Options or close browser tab.

Demo Virtual Desktop Performance Use Cases These use cases can be shown in either PCoIP or HTML5 connection modes. From the virtual desktop open up the default web browser and go to websites like http://www.gopro.com, http://www.youtube.com, http://www.vimeo.com, and allow the video to start playing. All the desktops in the EUC Global Demo environment are accelerated with VMware vgpu.

In order to demonstrate this capability, there are some applications installed in the base image to assist. The first application is called 123 Design by AutoDesk. Load the designs in the 123 Design folder on your desktop and interact with it by changing the orientation, zoom in/out etc. Launch the Google Earth application from the shortcut on your desktop in the virtual machine. Once loaded enter an appropriate location and hit enter, allowing the app to zoom and show the rendering in the remote session. Once complete close the Google Earth application.

Open Chrome and goto the following URL http://www.playmapscube.com and play the game there, then open a new tab and go to the following URL http://www.cartelle.nl/toys/toaster and play with the 3D toaster, then open a new tab and go to the following URL http://lab.aerotwist.com/webgl/undulating monkey and interact with the scene, then open a new tab and go to the following URL http://aleksandarrodic.com/p/jellyfish and move the jellyfishes around, then open a new tab and go to the following URL http://helloracer.com/webgl. You can google "WebGL experiments" and find many many more demos of this type.

Demo Read Only Horizon View Admin Console Your EUC Demo account has a Read Only access Administrator role in the View Administrator Console. To access the console, use the View Administrator Console desktop shortcut after logging into any Windows 7 or 8 desktop to bring up the web page. Enter your EUC Demo account credentials, Username (do not put @vmwdemo.com appended to username) and Password that was issued to you and choosing Domain VMWDEMO.

After login, click around the various menus to explore the Administrator interface. Here we see the Dashboard status.

Under Desktop Pools, you can see the various RDS and virtual desktop pools that exist.

Under Machines, you can see the status of the virtual machine connections.

Under Application Pools, you can see the various RDS Apps that exist. Demo VROps For Horizon (V4H) In the demo environments in each region, we have a vrops instance with Horizon solution (V4H) installed and working, monitoring the live environment. To demonstrate this, from your virtual desktop, double click the "vrops for Horizon" icon on the desktop. This will launch the UI login.

Authenticate using your credentials after selecting the drop down list for Authentication Source to VMWDEMO Once you have successfully authenticated you will see the V4H home screen.

Along the top bar select the View Overview and View VDI Pools and View Remote Session Details and View RDS Pools dashboards and see the information displayed. Also the Horizon Environment Maps provides a visual indication of for example all active sessions.

Also along the top bar select the View Adapter Self Health dashboard and see all the desktops reporting and the status of the View broker agent.

We are now going to create a custom dashboard by selecting the Actions icon in the Home Screen and selecting Create Dashboard. Then choose a name for the dasboard and pick the widgets you want displayed in this dashboard and save.

Ensure the custom dashboard shows up the list of all dashboards. Select the new dashboard from the Dashboards dropdown on the Home screen.

You will see the widgets you picked while creating it displayed in the new dashboard. Explain how admins can create their own dashboards based on the information they want to see. Play with creating more custom dashboards. Once complete, exit and logout of the vrops for Horizon(V4H) UI.
