IT Essentials I & II Agenda Program Update Course Descriptions Curriculum Updates Certifications and Vouchers 11

IT Essentials Program Updates IT Essentials Curriculum Name Change For the past four years, Hewlett-Packard has worked with Cisco Systems to sponsor the development and deployment of the IT Essentials curricula. These courses have been an important part of building student success in the Cisco Networking Academy Program. We are pleased to announce that Cisco will now directly sponsor IT Essentials I and IT Essentials II. As a result, we will remove the HP name and logo from the course title and content. 12

IT Essentials Program Updates IT Essentials Curriculum Name Change Cisco is committed to offering the existing IT Essentials courses, IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems with full support and functionality as currently implemented. In addition, Cisco plans to update the IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software curriculum to align with the new CompTIA A+ certification. 13

IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software Overview of Information Technology, includes an Intro to Networking Main focus is on PC maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting In-depth exposure to personal computer hardware, and desktop operating systems. Prepares students for CompTIA s A+ exams. French Version 3.1 released in February 2005 Version 3.1 Exam refresh posted in January 2006 -- focuses exams on job skills of a Computer Technician. Questions were eliminated that only cover the minutia in the course. 14

IT Essentials I and CompTIA s A+ CompTIA press release about the A+ revision Major revision to this certification Available late Q306 (late September of 2006) 2006 CompTIA A+ Certification Still requires the passing of two exams Focuses more on job skills Hardware and software components in all exams Added security, laptops and Soft Skills 15

IT Essentials I and CompTIA s A+ Different certification paths, aimed at different job markets To become CompTIA A+ certified under 2006 exams You must pass the A+ Essentials exam. A runfrom-cd version of Linux allows a computer to be booted into the Linux OS without affecting the host machine's hard drive. We have chosen Knoppix v3.9 to validate these labs. 18

IT Essentials II Knoppix Lab Map The package includes the following: A spreadsheet that maps each Linux lab to an alternate Knoppix lab and provides instructions for completion An Instructor Lab Manual that includes a short Knoppix instructor guide and Knoppix labs with answers A Student Lab Manual that contains Knoppix labs without answers Download on Tools page and Class Home page: HP IT Essentials II Ver. 3.0 Knoppix Labs Map v4 19
