1. Introduction The Hamlet USB to Parallel adapter is a practical bi-directional parallel cable that allows you to connect a parallel printer to the USB port of your PC or Notebook. Simply connect your printer's parallel cable to DB25 adapter s connector and the USB connector to a free USB port on your computer. In addition, the bi-directional communication allows your computer to receive messages reported by the printer. Features! Connect a Parallel printer through the USB port! 2. Installation The driver installation is required for Windows 98SE only. Installation on a computer that is running Windows 2000 or later is automated. Windows 98SE installation 1. Insert the Driver CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive. 2. Connect the XUPP25 adapter cable into an available USB port. Do not connect the printer to the cable yet. 3. Windows will detect the adapter and prompt for drivers. 4. Select the Driver folder on the CD as the location to search. 5. Windows will automatically install the drivers from the CD. Windows 2000 and later 1. Connect the USB to Parallel cable into an available USB port. Do not have the printer connected to the cable yet. 2. Windows will detect the cable and install the driver automatically. Setting up a Printer If you do not have a printer installed yet, we recommend you to install the printer using the Add Printer Wizard or the driver installation disk supplied with your printer. 1. Turn off your printer. Plug the DB25 connector of the USB to Parallel adapter cable into your printer cable. 2. Turn your printer and computer on. 4
3. Plug the USB connector of the adapter into an available USB port of your computer. 4. Click on Start " Settings " Printers to open the Printers folder. 5. Right-click on the printer s icon and click on Properties. The properties dialog box of the installed printer will appear. 6. Click the Details folder tab and change the printer port to LPT2:USB to Parallel Port (Win 98SE) or USB001 (Win XP*). * Note that there may be other USB00x ports, so you may need to try each one. 5
