Discovering Devices by IP Address - Describes how to discover a single device from the management platform based on its IP Address. Discovering Devices Using Filters - Describes how to discover devices from the management platform using a set of filters based on device type and IP address. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide 17

Chapter 3 To discover devices from the management platform: 1. Click. Or Select Actions > Discover Devices. The Network Discovery dialog box opens. 2. Click the Import from Platform tab. Figure 3-1. Network Discovery Dialog Box - Discover From Platform Discovering All Devices To discover all managed devices from the management platform: 1. In the Network Discovery dialog box, select Insert all devices. 2. Click OK. All managed devices discovered from the platform are added to the Device Table and the Network Discovery dialog box closes. Or Click Apply. All managed devices discovered from the platform are added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box remains open. 18 Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide

Discovering Devices The Avaya MultiService Network Manager Update Manager server regularly discovers the devices from the management platform. When you discover devices using Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager, Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager retrieves the device list from the server. Discovering Devices by IP Address To discover devices from the management platform based on their IP address: 1. In the Network Discovery dialog box, select Insert device with IP. A field appears for entering an IP address. 2. In the IP Address field, enter the IP address of the device you want to discover. 3. Click OK. The device with the IP address you entered is added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box closes. Or Click Apply. The device with the IP address you entered is added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box remains open. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide 19

Chapter 3 Discovering Devices Using Filters You can use filters to determine which managed devices should be discovered. You can filter the devices based on: Device Type IP Address Both Device Type and IP Address To discover devices using filters: 1. In the Network Discovery dialog box, select Insert devices using filter. A Device Type Filter section and an IP Addresses Filter section appear. 2. To filter by device type, select the types of devices you want to discover in the Device Type Filter section. For information on selecting device types, refer to Filtering by Device Type on page 15. 3. To filter by IP address, enter the IP address of the device you want to discover in the IP Addresses Filter section. You can use the asterisk (*) wildcard or enter a range of values to define a group of devices. For details, refer to Using Wildcards and Ranges in an IP Address on page 21. Enter the first address in the IP Address field and click Add. The IP Address is displayed beneath the IP Address field. You can then repeat the process as many times as you want. To remove one or more IP addresses from the list of addresses, select the addresses you want to remove and click Remove. 4. Click OK. The devices that meet the filter criteria are added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box closes. Or Click Apply. The device that meet the filter criteria are added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box remains open. 20 Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide

Discovering Devices Using Wildcards and Ranges in an IP Address You can use an asterisk (*) wildcard in the IP address. The asterisk must replace an entire octet, rather than individual digits. For example, 149.49.50.* and 149.49.*.* are valid entries. However, 149.49.40.1* and 149.49.* are not valid entries. You can use a range to represent the last octet. For example, 149.49.48.101-110 is a valid range. However, 149.49.48.101-9 and 149.49.35-40.101 are not valid ranges. The IP address must be written without any spaces. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide 21

Chapter 3 Adding Devices Manually If you do not want to add devices in the management platform or your management platform has not yet discovered some devices, you can add devices manually. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager prompts you for additional information about the devices, rather than taking the information from the management platform. To add devices to the Device Table manually: 1. Click. Or Select Edit > Discover Devices. The Network Discovery dialog box opens. 2. Click the Manual Entry tab. The Manual Entry page of the Network Discovery dialog box opens. Figure 3-2. Network Discovery Dialog Box - Manual Entry 22 Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide

Discovering Devices 3. Enter the following Device Parameters: IP Address - Enter the IP address of the device you want to add. You can not use wildcards or ranges in this field. Read Community - Enter the read community for the device you want to add. Write Community - Enter the write community for the device you want to add. Retries - Enter the maximum number of attempts you want the Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager to make to contact the device. Timeout - Enter the number of milliseconds Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager should try to establish a connection to the device before reporting that it cannot connect to the device. 4. Enter the parameters for the device and click Add. The device appears in the Device List section, and the IP Address field is cleared. You can then repeat this process as many times as you want. 5. To remove one or more devices from the Device List section, select the devices you want to remove and click Remove. 6. Click OK. The devices in the Device List section are added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box closes. Or Click Apply. The devices in the Device List section are added to the Device Table, and the Network Discovery dialog box remains open. * Note: The Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager does not display an error message if a device can not be added, e.g., if the Read Community is wrong, or the attempt to connect to the device times out. However, the event is recorded in the log. For information on the log, refer to Chapter 6, The Log File. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide 23

4 Downloading Software to Devices This chapter explains how to download software to the devices in the Device Table. It includes the following sections: Download Files Overview - A short overview about download files and where they are located. Configuring Download Parameters - Explains how to view and configure the download parameters. Downloading - Explains how to download software immediately. Delayed Downloads - Explains how to schedule a download for a later time or date. Resetting Modules - Explains how to reset devices after a download. Setting Product Defaults - Explains how to view and change default filenames. Avaya MultiService Software Update Manager User Guide 24

Downloading Software to Devices Download Files Overview Download files contain embedded software for Avayamodules. When a file is downloaded to a module, it affects the abilities of the module.
