Network expansion Economic approach to distribution of synchronisation references to network elements. Introduction The explosion in demand for telecommunications services has resulted in the implementation of complex networks.these often contain a large number of network elements, all of which must be synchronised to ensure that the quality of service meets the international standards and the demands of network users. Very often, extra output capacity is required at the network nodes to synchronise all its elements and it is thus necessary to implement expansion equipment. To meet this requirement, Oscilloquartz has introduced two synchronisation distribution units (SDU), models OSA 5533C and OSA 5530B SDU.
Economic approach OSA 5533C SDU The Synchronisation Distribution Unit OSA 5533C SDU provides up to 48 outputs from one or two inputs. It is ideally suited to stand-alone clock distribution requirements in SDH or SONET nodes where a stable reference is available.the unit provides an economic approach to distribution of synchronisation references to network elements, such as switches, cross-connects and multiplexers. The OSA 5533C SDU can also extend the output capacity of Oscilloquartz synchronisation systems such as OSA 5548B SASE or OSA 5542B CTO. The equipment is available with single or dual inputs at 2.048MHz, optionally 2.048 Mbit/s, 1.544Mbit/s, 1, 1.544, 5 or 10 MHz. Should the selected input fail, the unit automatically switches to the secondary synchronisation input. A highly functional Holdover Unit (HOU) ensures that the OSA 5533C SDU continues to deliver output references even when all inputs are lost. The Holdover Unit contains an oven controlled crystal oscillator whose stability is typically better than 5 x 10-10 /day, which exceeds the requirements of ITU-T G.812 Type III SSU. The HOU also ensures that input switchover is hitless and maintains output phase changes to within the limits specified in G.812, Paragraph 11.1 (25ns for 0.001<T<0.003s). The OSA 5533C provides up to 48 synchronisation outputs that are referenced to the selected input or the Holdover Unit. Output protection is available for up to 32 of the outputs. A 64 output version is also available using 1.0/2.3 connectors. Re-timing is also available for up to 24 channels. The equipment communicates with a local terminal or a PC loaded with the Oscilloquartz local management software for alarm reporting and control. Remote management by SyncView, Oscilloquartz's professional Network Management System, will be available as a future upgrade option. Summary of Features Single or dual inputs 16, 32 or 48 outputs SSM on Mbit/s inputs and outputs Wide choice of output interfaces Holdover typically < 5 x 10-10 /day, exceeds ITU-T G.812 Type III SSU Noise generation to ITU-T G.812 Type I SSU (with ideal reference) Re-timing of up to 24 channels SyncView network management Totally maintenance-free
Extended capacity OSA 5530B SDU The Synchronisation Distribution Unit OSA 5530B SDU is designed primarily to extend the output capacity of our synchronisation systems such as OSA 6500B PRC, OSA 5548B SASE or OSA 5542B CTO. It can also be used in stand-alone applications where a stable reference is available.the unit provides distribution of synchronisation references to network elements, e.g. switches, cross-connects and multiplexers. The OSA 5530B SDU's protected front-end accepts two external synchronisation reference inputs at 2.048 MHz and provides up to 96 1+1 protected or unprotected synchronisation outputs, which are referenced to the selected synchronisation input. Should the selected input fail, the unit will automatically switch to the secondary synchronisation input. Output phase coherence after changeover operations is maintained well below 1/8UI (61ns), typically 5ns.This is important for SDH/SONET networks that are more sensitive to phase variations. Switchover is normally made automatically. Manual switching is done via RS232. The OSA 5530B also includes redundant output ports to drive further SDUs. The equipment communicates with a local terminal or a Personal Computer (PC) for alarm reporting and equipment control. When used in conjunction with an OSA 5548B, the unit can be managed by the SyncView synchronisation network management system for alarm reporting and control functions. Summary of Features Two inputs Up to 96 1+1 protected or unprotected outputs Wide choice of output interfaces Modular approach ETSI or 19" rack mount versions SyncView network management Totally maintenance-free

Common features Well-proven design The OSA 5533C and OSA 5530B SDUs use the well proven modular approach from Oscilloquartz and are totally maintenance-free. Partially equipped configurations are also available with upgrade capability to the full configuration.all plug-in cards can be replaced in a hot condition. Output Flexibility Various output interface modules are available each with 16 outputs.interface types include 2.048 Mbit/s, 2.048 MHz,1.544 Mbit/s,64 kbit/s CC,1,5,10 MHz and many more. The units offer a highly versatile choice of output connectors that can be configured in groups of four at the factory or in the field. The choice of connectors includes D type for 100,120 or 133 Ohm ports and BNC,1.6/5.6,1.0/2.3 or type 43 for 75 Ohm ports. Several hundreds of outputs can be achieved by adding more OSA 5530B expansion subracks.
