The MPP200 User s Manual 1.1 The MPP200 The Media Processing Platform (MPP) 200 is a high density, blade chassis used in VSI IPTV applications. It can be rack mounted in a 1U space or used as a stand alone. Slots 1 and 2 on the chassis can be filled with any VSI blade product. 1.1.1 MPP200 Front Panel Slots Blade Slots 1.1.2 MPP200 Rear Panel Status 1 Copies the status LED pattern of the blade inserted into Slot 1. For more information Video 1 Copies the video LED pattern of the blade inserted into Slot 1. For more information Power The Power LED illuminates green when power is supplied to the chassis. 1

Status 2 Copies the status LED pattern of the blade inserted into Slot 2. For more information Video 2 Copies the video LED pattern of the blade inserted into Slot 2. For more information 1.2 Rack Mounting the MPP200 Warning: Before installing the MPP200, be sure to read the safety and equipment information contained in this chapter. Caution: Use proper electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions when installing or removing the MPP200 to avoid damaging the unit s circuitry. The MPP200 is designed to be rack mountable. It is 5.7 inches wide and utilizes 1U of rack space when mounted. Refer to the sections that follow for information on installing blades and blanking panels. In order to install the MPP200 on a rack, you will need an MPP200 Rack Mount Kit and a Phillips screwdriver. The kit includes 2 small brackets, 1 medium length bracket, 1 long bracket, and 10 screws. The MPP200 Rack Mount Kit can mount one or two MPP200s in a 1U space, and can be purchased online at www.vsicam.com. 1. Locate and remove two pairs of screws from the chassis, depending upon the desired final position of the chassis in the rack (front or back). For example, to mount the chassis in the rack with the front facing out, remove the pairs of screws (left and right) closest to the front of the chassis, leaving the middle and back screws in place. 2. Install one MPP200 chassis: you will need one small bracket, the long bracket, and four screws from the MPP200 Rack Mount Kit. a. On the side of the chassis that is to be next to the rack sidewall, attach one of the small brackets, using the smaller holes on the bracket and the empty screw holes on the chassis. Make sure that the larger holes on the bracket are flush with the face of the chassis. b. Attach the long bracket to the other side of chassis so that the longest face of the bracket is flush with the chassis (front or back depending on the mounting position). 3. Install two MPP200 chassis: you will need two small brackets, the medium bracket, and eight screws from the MPP200 Rack Mount Kit. a. Attach a small bracket to each chassis so that the brackets are attached on opposite sides (e.g., so that one chassis has a bracket on the left side and the other has a bracket on the right side), using the smaller holes on the bracket and the empty screw holes on the chassis. Make sure that the larger holes on the brackets are flush with the face of the chassis. 2

b. Attach the medium bracket between the two chassis so that the longest bracket face is flush with the face of the chassis (front or back depending on the mounting position). 4. Install your blades and or blanking panels, see Section 1.1.2. 5. Connect the power cable to the rear of the unit(s). 6. Lift the now populated chassis and bracket assembly into the rack at the desired level, and attach with rack screws (not provided). 1.3 Hardware Inventory 1. AC power cord. 2. DC power supply. 3. Four rubber feet. 4. RS-232 console cable. 1.4 Blade Installation and Removal Note: It is important that the module be properly aligned with the slot guides before it is inserted into the appropriate slot on the chassis. It is recommended that the user s line of sight be level with the middle of the backplane in order to see both slot guides clearly. Install a VSI blade into the chassis as follows: Caution: Use proper ESD precautions when installing or removing a VSI blade to avoid damaging the unit s circuitry. 1. Slide the blade, open end first, into the desired slot on the chassis until it plugs into the connector located on the backplane at the rear of the unit. 2. To insure that the blade is properly seated in the chassis and mated to the rear connectors, push firmly on the blade's front panel. Ensure that the front panel face is flush with the chassis ends and sides. Note the red and black handle on the blade does not mount or lock to anything on the MPP200 chassis. 3. Tighten the captive thumb screw located at the top of the blade to provide a more secure mounting. 4. If desired, an additional Phillips screw can be installed through the handle. 5. The Status LED will blink once a second when the blade is properly installed, powered, and operational. 3

To remove a VSI blade: 1. Loosen the mounting screw at the top of the blade. 2. If installed, loosen the additional Phillips screw in the ejector handle 3. To pull the blade out of its slot and away from the chassis, pull on the mounting screw at the top of the blade and on the handle at the bottom. 1.5 Installing Blanking Panels After all blade options have been installed, all empty slots must be populated with blanking panels. Install blanking panels as follows: Warning: Failure to populate empty slots with blanking panels will negatively effect EMC radiation and immunity. Note: Blanking panels are used to cover each of the empty blade slots. 1. Place the blanking panel onto the face of the MPP200. 2. Tighten the two captive screws on the front of the blanking panel. 1.6 MPP200 Safety and Compliance Unit Ratings: Caution: 5Vdc, 4A Power Supply Rating: Caution: 100-250V~, 50-60 Hz, 1.0A Fuse Rating: No user accessible fuse.
