Introduction DynoHell Software Components Main Menu Main menu: where you can access to Measuring windows, Analyze windows, printing windows, serial port settings, adjust Dynamometer settings Serial Port controller: Open/ Close Serial port Save Settings button: Save the Dynamometer Settings in Tools>Settings to the Properties settings. In this way, the software will remember settings for the next time you open the Software Reading From Embedded system window: show the values read form embedded system (Arduino Card) through USB cable. Writing to embedded system window: show the values that the software will feed the embedded system (Arduino Card) through USB cable. Logging window: show the activities of using the software Figure 1.1 DynoHell Main window Status Bar: show the current status of the software. Serial Port setting s menu Location: File>COM Connect Figure 1.2 Serial Port Settings Menu Location 2

What you can change: Port: show all available COM port name that the software can find. The guide will show you how to find Arduino COM port name later. Bit Rate: speed of transmission (Ex: 9600 means 9600bits/second). Parity: this is for error checker, contains 3 modes (None, Even, Odd). Not very necessary for this system, since the cable is not very long and al most no interference, so None should be good. Data bits: Number of data bits per message. 8 is default. Stop Bits: Number of stop bits. One is default. Handshake: Flow control settings. None is default. Open Port On Starting checkbox: Automatically open serial port when open the software. Default: Set Bit Rate, Parity, Data bits, Stop bit, Hand shake to default. OK button: The settings will be set (but not to properties settings), which means if you close and open the software again, these settings will not be remembered. It still set the setting of properties settings (from the latest change). Figure 1.3 Serial Port Settings dialog with COM8 port chosen Note: Default settings and Properties settings are different. Default settings include: 9600 bit rate, Parity None, Data bit: 8, Stop bit 1, Hand shake: None. While Properties settings are saved by clicking Save Settings Button in Main Window. 3

Dynamometer Settings Location: Tools>Settings Figure 1.4 Dynamometer Settings X-Axis: The value of X-Axis of the Graph (Engine RPM or Second) MOI: Inertia of the system. Fuel: Type of fuel of vehicles for lambda reading. Teeth: Number of teeth of wheel for pickup sensor. Speed Threshold: The speed threshold that the software will start to draw calculated reading to the graph. Engine Factor: Multiplier of Wheel RPM to get Engine RPM CoEfficiency: for calculating the drag power to feed the EddyBrake. Frontal Area: for calculating the drag power to feed the EddyBrake. Air Density: for calculating the drag power to feed the EddyBrake. Circumference: For diameter of the flywheel. Figure 1.5 DynoSettings Panel View Menu Location: View > Measure Figure 1.6 View menu 4

This menu control will show the Graph as well as the Data View of the measurement. Graph View: The graph which shows the curve when testing. Data View: shows numeric value when testing. Measure & Analyze Menu This is the main function of the software which are collecting and analyzing the data from testing. This will be discussed in detail in next section: Measuring & Analyze Procedure. Measuring This guide will show step by step how to operate the software. 1. Check the COM Port and Dynamometer settings. 2. Insert Information of the Test. 3. Measure Vehicle s Performance Figure 2.1 Properties on Computer Check the COM Port and Dynamometer settings To know the name of COM port of Arduino card, follow the steps below (in Windows 7): Start Menu> Right Click Computer>Properties Figure 2.2 COM port name Then click on Device Manager> in the showing up window, look for Ports (COM & LPT) and click on it> You can see the COM port name of Arduino Card if the Arduino card is connected. In this example, the name of the COM port name is COM8. With this information, you can set the COM port settings like shown in Figure 1.3. 5

Insert Information of the Test Click File >Measure> New, the DynoControllerPanel will show up. Manufacturer: Insert you manufacturer of the vehicle to be tested. Model: Model name of the Vehicle to be tested. Year Produced: Year of Production of the vehicle to be tested. Owner: Owner name of the vehicle to be tested. Date: The Date of the testing. It will be set automatically the current date of the system. But you can still change it to another date if you want. Time: The Time of the testing. It will be also set automatically the current time of the system. And you can still change it. Gear: The Gear to be tested of the vehicle. Speed Threshold: The minimum speed in km/h that the software will start to log measurement and draw curves. Engine Factor: - Target Engine RPM: The Engine RPM wanted to be reached, which can be observed on Speedometer of the Vehicle. - Current Roller RPM: The Roller RPM of the Dynamometer system or the RPM of the back wheel of the vehicle. - Factor: The Quotient of Target Engine RPM over Roller RPM when clicking Take Button. With this, Engine RPM can be calculated later as Engine RPM = Factor*Roller RPM. Start Button: The testing will start after clicking Start. Cancel Button: Turn off DynoControllerPanel. Figure 2.3 Start Measure Panel 6

Measure Vehicle s Performance After clicking Start, 2 windows will show up: Graph View and Data View. Graph View Graph View contains 2 graphs: 1. Power & Torque vs Engine RPM: The purple curve represents Power and the Green curve represents Torque. 2. Lambda vs Engine RPM: One Purple line represents Lambda value. Data View This window shows numeric values of measurements. Figure 2.4 Graph View window The values of measurement are showed as the name of it. There are two columns: The current values which is measured in real-time and the Maximum value of the whole test. The Units of these values are also showed in the window. Running The tester on the vehicle just shift to the desired gear, run the vehicle full throttle. The software will automatically draw the graph right after the vehicle passes the speed threshold. Figure 2.6 Finish Notification After the vehicle reaches maximum speed, tester can just release throttle, the measurement will automatically stop after 2 seconds of decreasing speed of the vehicle. The dialog below will be shown at that time. Tester or Operator just has to press OK button. (Figure 2.6) 7 Figure 2.5 Data View Window

Save Result After finishing the test, the result can be saved to local drive by doing this. Go back to Main Menu> File> Measure...> Save. A Saving file dialog will show up as below.
