Service Parameters Overview, page 1 Service Parameters Configuration Task Flow, page 1 Service Parameters Overview Each Cisco Unified Communications Manager node has a list of services that are available to that node. The active services depend on whether the node is a publisher node or a subscriber node, as well as the features that you choose to configure. There are feature services and network services. Some of those are cluster-wide and apply to all nodes within the cluster. Most services have parameters. We recommend that you keep the default service parameter settings unless your specific deployment requires a change. Feature services can be activated in the Service Activation window of Cisco Unified Serviceability. However, network services are active by default and are required for basic functionality. If you need to stop and start a network service for troubleshooting purposes, you must use the Control Center - Network Services window in Cisco Unified Serviceability. You can view the status of services using Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration or Cisco Unified Serviceability. To view service parameter settings and service parameter descriptions, use Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. Service Parameters Configuration Task Flow Command or Action Purpose Activate and Deactivate Services, on page 2 You can activate and deactivate services on the node using Cisco Unified Serviceability. For a list of the recommended services for publisher nodes, see Recommended Service Parameters for Publisher Nodes, on page 2. For a list of the recommended services for subscriber nodes, see Recommended Service Parameters for Subscriber Nodes, on page 4. 1

Activate and Deactivate Services Command or Action for the Node, on page 5 Purpose Configure service parameters for the Cisco Unified Communication Manager publisher node and for subscriber nodes in the cluster. Display Services and Service Parameter Settings, on page 5 You can display the services for your nodes using Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration and Cisco Unified Serviceability. To view service parameter settings and parameter descriptions, use Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. Activate and Deactivate Services You must use Cisco Unified Serviceability to activate or deactivate a service. When you change the status of a service, the information updates in both Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration and Cisco Unified Serviceability. If you deactivate a service, Cisco Unified Communications Manager keeps the current service parameter values. When you restart the service, Cisco Unified Communications Manager updates the service parameter values. Step 4 Step 5 From Cisco Unified Serviceability, choose Tools > Service Activation. Select a Server from the drop-down menu and click Go. The services and their current status display. To activate a service, check the check box beside the service that you want to activate. To deactivate a service, uncheck the check box beside the service that you want to deactivate. Click Save. Service activation may take a few minutes to complete. refresh the page to confirm the status change. What to Do Next for the Node, on page 5 Recommended Service Parameters for Publisher Nodes The following table lists the recommended services for a Cisco Unified Communications Manager publisher node when using a non-dedicated TFTP server. 2

for the Node for the Node You can configure the service parameters on the node using Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. Service parameters that are marked as cluster-wide affect all nodes in the cluster. Caution Some changes to service parameters can cause system failure. We recommend that you do not make any changes to service parameters unless you fully understand the feature that you are changing or unless the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) specifies the changes. Before You Begin Make sure that the Cisco Unified Communications Manager nodes are configured. Make sure that the service is active. For details, see Activate and Deactivate Services, on page 2. Step 4 In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, select System > Service Parameters. Select a node in the Server drop-down list. Select a service in the Service drop-down list. All parameters that apply to the selected node appear. Parameters that appear in the Clusterwide Parameters (General) section apply to all nodes in the cluster. Tip Click the? icon in the Service Parameter Configuration window to view a list of service parameters along with their descriptions. Modify the service parameters and then click Save. The window refreshes and the service parameter values are updated. You can click the Set to Default button to update all parameters to the suggested value that appears after the Parameter Value field. If a parameter does not have a suggested value, the service parameter value does not change when you click the Set to Default button. What to Do Next Display Services and Service Parameter Settings, on page 5 Display Services and Service Parameter Settings You can use Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration and Cisco Unified Serviceability to view the status of services for nodes in your cluster. To view service parameter settings and parameter descriptions, use Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration. Before You Begin for the Node, on page 5 5

Display Services and Service Parameter Settings To display services and view service parameter settings for a node using Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, perform the following steps. a) Select System > Service Parameters. b) In the Service Parameters Configuration window, select a node in the Server drop-down box. c) Select a service in the Service drop-down box. All parameters that apply to the selected node appear. Parameters that appear in the Clusterwide Parameters (General) section apply to all nodes in the cluster. d) Click the (?) icon in the Service Parameter Configuration window to view a list of service parameters along with their descriptions. To display the service parameters for a particular service on all nodes in a cluster, select Parameters for All Servers in the Related Links drop-down box in the Service Parameters Configuration window, then click Go. The Parameters for All Servers window appears. You can click on a server name that is listed or on a parameter value to open the related Service Parameter Configuration window. To display out-of-sync service parameters for a particular service on all nodes in a cluster, select Out of Sync Parameters for All Servers in the Related Links drop-down box in the Parameters for All Servers window, then click Go. The Out of Sync Parameters for All Servers window appears. You can click on a server name that is listed or on a parameter value to open the related Service Parameter Configuration window. 6
