Additional Exercise: Aerostructure Step 1: Setting Parameters In this step, we open the ASL part and set default sheet metal parameters. Step 2: Creating the Web In this step, we create the web of the Sheet Metal Part. Select the Web icon Select xy plane as Support Geometry Select the following boundary elements: yellow surface green curve green surface green plane red curve Select OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 6

Step 3: Creating Surfacic Flanges In this step, we create a planar flange and a curved flange 1.1 - Planar flange Select the surfacic flange icon Base Feature: select the web Check Exact is setting for Support Type Support Geometry: select the green plane Check Flange Material Direction and Flange Base Feature Direction are pointing inside the web (click on red arrows to invert them). Select EOP tab Enter 30mm for Length From OML value COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 8

Select Sides and Corner tab Enter 5mm for Corner 1 and Corner 2 radii Click OK 1.2 - Curved flange Select surfacic flange icon Base Feature: select the web Check Exact is setting for Support Type Support Geometry: select yellow surface Check Flange Material Direction and Flange Base Feature Direction are pointing the green surface (click on red arrows to invert them). Step 4: Creating the Joggle In this step, we create a joggle on the curved flange. Select Joggle icon Support: select the curved flange Joggle plane: select the blue plane Click on the Depth direction arrow to invert it Set parameters as shown on illustration Click OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 11

Unfold the part Modify Surfacic Flange 2 so as to activate Joggle compensation COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 12

Step 5: Creating Cutouts and Holes In this step we create cut outs on the web using 3 sketches and holes using 4 points 1.3 - Cutouts Select Cut Out icon Click on the pink curve Check orange arrow is pointing inside the curve Click OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 13

Repeat these operations using the following profiles: 1.4 - Circular Cutouts Select Circular Cutouts icon Select one of the four white cross points Select web as support Choose Index hole type Select Standard Files command Select Design table icon Choose 10mm diameter (6 th row) Select three remaining white cross points in a sequence Select OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 14

Step 6: Creating Flanged Holes In this step, we create two flanged holes on the web Select Flanged Hole icon Select one of the two green points located on the web (the one closer to the planar Surfacic Flange) Select the web Check orange arrow is pointing the flanges direction (click on arrow to invert it) Select Standards Files button COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 16

Select design table icon for the Diameter parameter. Select the 3 rd row (50mm) in the table Select OK twice The second Flanged hole will be obtained by applying a Rectangular Pattern Select Rectangular Pattern icon Select 1 st flanged hole to be patterned Set Instance parameter value to 2 Right select the Reference Element filed and choose Create Line Select both green cross points and OK Right Select the Spacing field and choose Measure Item command Select previously created Line COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 17

Close Measuring Window by selecting OK Select Ok in Pattern Definition window to close the dialog. COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 18

Step 7: Creating Beads In this step, we create three beads on the web Select Bead icon Select one of the three blue lines Check orange arrow is pointing the flanges direction Select Standards Files button Select design table icon Select the 4 th row in the table COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 19

Select OK twice Repeat these operations using the two others blue lines COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 20

Step 8: Create an Expert Check In this step, we verify that the clearance distance between the flanged hole and the surface Flange is respected, the calculation being based on the OML Go into Knowledge Expert Workbench Activate the Expert Check function Select if need be the Rulebase in your tree and click OK In the Check Editor COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 21

Select in the tree the Surfacic Flange 1 and the Flanged Hole 1 which will appear in the 1 st Text Box respectively as Flange Surf and CATSm_ExtrudedHolePunch, we just have to nickname each one of this feature and separate them with a ; like this The next step consists into creating the rule into the 2 nd text box. In our case, we want that the distance between the 2 features OML to be superior to a fixed value, 30 mm, which translates in our case as : COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 22

This is not the case, we have to correct this by modifying the position of the flanged hole For this, double-click on sketch.5 and move with the mouse its point two squares to the left as on the picture Then exit the sketcher and update if necessary The check is still red, let s update it manually. For this, right-click on RuleBase and use Manual Complete Solve The check becomes green => the clearance distance is respected COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 23

Step 9: Modifying and Flattening the Part In this step, we modify the joggle runout, enlarge the green circle and we unfold the part Edit the joggle created on Surfacic Flange 2 Change the Runout Formula to Formula 2 Update if necessary COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 24

Edit the sketch linked to the green circle (by double-clicking in the tree) which we have used to make the cut out Change the diameter constraint value from 30mm to 20mm Exit the sketcher Update if necessary Select the Unfold icon to flatten the part COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 25

Additional Exercise: Bracket Step 1: Setting Parameters In this step, we open the ASL product and set default sheet metal parameters. Open Aerospace Sheet Metal Design workbench Open Bracket.CATProduct which is located in the ASL_F\Student\Data\Bracket Directory Select View \ Render Style \ Parallel Activate Bracket part in the tree Select Aerospace Sheet Metal Design Parameters icon COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 26

In the Parameters tab, click Sheet Standard Files button Select AluminumTable.xls file in the Student\Data\Parameter_Tables directory Select OK Select design table icon for the Default Bend Radius parameter Select the second row (2mm) in the Bend Radius Table Select OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 27

Step 4: Creating Surfacic Flanges In this step, we create two planar surfacic flanges using Length From OML and Element FD for EOP types. 1.1 - First Flange Select Surfacic Flange icon Base Feature: select the web Select Support tab Select Angle Type Support curve: select PlanarFlange_Support sketch (yellow line) Check Angle value is set to 90deg Check the material and Base Feature Directions arrows are pointing inside the web Select EOP tab COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 32

Select Exact Type Support Geometry: select Reference YZ plane Check Flange Material Direction and Flange Base Feature Direction arrows are pointing the first flange Select EOP tab Select Element FD Boundary Element: select EOP_Support sketch (red curve) Select Sides and Corners tab Side 1: Standard Side 2: Standard Select None for Corners 1 and 2 radius Select OK. Step 5: Creating the Joggle In this step, we create a joggle on the second flange Select Joggle icon Support: select the second flange Joggle Plane: select Joggle Plane (red plane) Set joggle parameters values as shown on illustration Select OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 35

Step 6: Creating Flanged Holes In this step, we create two flanged holes on the web. Select Flanged Hole icon Select one of the orange points Select the web Check orange arrow is pointing in the flange direction (Select to invert) Click on Standard Files Select design table icon Select 3 rd row Select OK twice COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 36

Second Flanged Holes will be obtained by applying the same method on second orange point location COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 37

Step 7: Creating the Circular Cutouts In this step, we create fastener holes on the second flange 1.3 - Eight first points Select Circular Cutout icon Select one of the white cross points (the most left for instance) Select the supporting flange Select the Fastener hole type Select Standard Files command Select Design Table icon COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 38

Select 3 rd row (diameter 4mm) Select all other white cross points except the last most right one Select OK 1.4-9 th Fastener hole Repeat previous steps for the last most right hole definition. Step 8: Creating Chamfers Select Chamfer icon Set up Chamfer option and value in panel Length 8mm Angle 45deg Tangency Propagation Select Select all command Select OK COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 40

Step 9: Flattening the Part In this part, we flatten the part in a second window Select Multi Viewer icon to display Unfolded part window Select View \ Render Style \ Parallel Reframe and rotate the view so that you have the Unfolded representation full size COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 41
