ipad Basics Wallpaper, Sounds, and More More Personal Settings Page 1 As you learned in lesson 7 of this tutorial (Wi-Fi, Security, and General Settings), there are lots of ways to set up your device so it suits your individual needs. There are ways to add a more personal touch, too; for example, by choosing your own wallpaper, or changing the sound effects. In this lesson, we'll take a look at the following items in your device's settings. Remember: you can access Settings by tapping the icon on your Home screen. Brightness & Wallpaper for controlling your screen's appearance General for managing general settings, including sound effects Picture Frame for customizing your device's slideshow feature General settings

Brightness & Wallpaper Page 2 This area of Settings gives you control over your ipad's screen brightness, and also your wallpaper. Changing these settings - particularly your wallpaper - is a great way to make your ipad more personal and unique. To Adjust Brightness: 1. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen. 2. Tap Brightness & Wallpaper in the left pane. 3. Drag the slider to make your screen darker or lighter. Adjusting screen brightness Auto-Brightness automatically adjusts your brightness for current light conditions using a built-in light sensor. To turn this feature ON or OFF, tap the control beside Auto-Brightness. To Change Your Wallpaper: 1. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen.

2. Tap Brightness & Wallpaper in the left pane. 3. Tap the area under Wallpaper to view your options. Viewing wallpaper options 4. Tap the library or album that contains the image you want to use. In this example, we will choose Wallpaper to access the ipad's built-in wallpaper library.

Selecting an image library 5. Tap an image to open a full-screen preview.

Selecting an image 6. Use the menu bar to apply the wallpaper to your Lock Screen, Home Screen, or Both. (To exit the preview without changing your wallpaper, tap Cancel.)

Previewing and applying wallpaper Sounds Page 3 Under Sounds, you have the ability to change the sound effects you hear for alerts, as well as your ringtone for FaceTime. You can also adjust the volume for these sounds, and enable or disable effects like keyboard clicks. To Edit Sound Settings: 1. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen. 2. Tap General in the left pane. 3. Tap Sounds to view your options.

Viewing sound options 4. Use the settings in this pane to adjust the volume for sound effects, change your alerts, or turn certain effects ON or OFF.

Sound options Picture Frame The Picture Frame feature turns your ipad into an animated picture frame. That means you can play a slideshow of your favorite photos and graphics whenever your ipad is idle; for example, when you're charging it. You can also decide which pictures to display, and how to transition between them. To put your ipad in Picture Frame mode, tap the Picture Frame icon on the Lock screen. Page 4

Turning on Picture Frame If you're not sure how to access the Lock screen while your ipad is on, press the Sleep/Wake button twice (on the outside of your device), and it will appear. To Edit Picture Frame Settings: 1. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen. 2. Tap Picture Frame in the left pane. 3. Use the options on the right to edit settings like the transition between photos, and whether your device will use all of your photos, or only specific albums.

Picture Frame settings 4. The settings you choose will be displayed the next time you turn Picture Frame on.
