Simple installation and commissioning Hybrid safety module can be configured using software tool Web server simplifies diagnostics and commissioning Integrated switch allows installation in line topology Robust design allows use in harsh industrial environments Housing with fully potted module electronics High protection classes: IP65/IP67/IP69K Expanded temperature range -40 +70 C Market Situation The majority of the safe input/output modules offered are designed for the IP20 control cabinet. All safety signals from the safe sensors and actuators are guided in control cabinets or sub-distributions and then initially wired to the I/O modules. In our hybrid IP67/69K safety module, the control cabinet is no longer present, and the sensors and actuators (standard and safe) mounted in the field are connected directly to the module. Until now, users needed to use multiple safe and unsafe modules to do this, even if just one additional signal was needed to connect a control device, or they needed to deal with long cable runs to a remote module. Customer Benefits of the Hybrid Safety Module The new hybrid safety module, with its flexible number of configurable safe and standard inputs and outputs, was designed exactly for this requirement. The product's great flexibility makes it easier to configure the machine and reduces the number of reserve inputs/outputs to a minimum. The integration of the two IO-Link masters reduces the cabling for additional I/O standard signals to a minimum by using IO-Link IO hubs. A direct comparison with other competitor IP6x modules is not possible because the Turck TBPN-PROFINET/PROFIsafe station is the only module to offer the combination of safety, standard and IO-Link master options. More information is available under: Competition and competitor products in IP6x Hybrid Module Functions Safety For safety-related applications, the safety module offers two safe digital inputs for the connection of two-channel safety components, such as mechanical safety switches, as well as for OSSD signals from electronic safety sensors, such as a light grid. In addition, two safe universal digital channels are available, which can optionally be used as safety-relevant inputs or outputs. The maximum of two safe outputs can be configured by configuration software as two-channel unipolar (P-switching) or bipolar (P/M-switching) outputs (2A). This allows mechanical contacts from safety contactors and also valves to be safely switched off. Standard and IO-Link The safety module also has two universal digital channels for inputs or outputs and the option of two IO-Link master ports. These ports allow up to 32 further universal digital signals to be connected to the hybrid safety module by IO-Link IO hubs or IO-Link-compatible sensors. 2
GSDML file and configuration software The standard inputs/outputs are configured using a GSDML file, as is standard for all PROF- INET modules. The function and the properties of the safety-relevant inputs and outputs are transferred to the safety module using the Turck Safety Configurator configuration tool. This can be started from the Siemens TIA portal, if the user has installed this function. This is required for every application, as different safety components with different behaviors make individual selection necessary. After successful parameterization of the safety module, the software creates a CRC code which must then be entered in the hardware setting for the safety module, the F-CPU. The Turck Safety Configurator is Windows-based software with a simple interface for the rapid determination of the individual safe I/Os and their safe behavior. Internal configuration memory and special functions The safety properties parametrized with the "Turck Safety Configurator" configuration software are not only saved on the module itself in the new TBPN station, but also on a plug-in memory stick. This storage medium is located on the side next to the rotary switches for the setting of the F address. In the event of replacement, the memory stick can be taken out of the defective module without configuration software and plugged into the replacement device. After creating the supply voltage, the configuration data is safely transferred to the new module and the replacement is completed. Additional special functions, such as wiping the memory stick, are performed with the help of the address switch. F-address 400 and memory stick highlighted in red Voltage supply and safe switch off The new TBPN safety modules only have one voltage supply. There is no galvanic isolation of the safe or the standard inputs and outputs. The inputs and outputs refer to the same GND potential. Out of the four universal digital channels, up to three can be used as standard outputs that can be disabled. In the process, the supply voltage is safely disconnected inside the module. When using the IO-Link master, the internal supply voltage can also be switched off safely for the outputs. These options allow the safety-related switch off of auxiliary drives, valve clusters etc. and simplify the switching and wiring effort for these actuators significantly. Documentation and software All necessary information about the Safety TBPN product is available online. A flyer, a handbook, the configuration file (GSDML) and the configuration software (Turck Safety Configurator) are provided. All information is available online Data sheets Configuration software: Turck Safety Configurator GSDML file Handbooks and flyers in PDF format Target Customers The target customers and target sectors are no different to those that have used TBEN-L or TBEN-S stations until now. Every new machine or system that is built in Europe and used in the EEA (European Economic Area) has to be equipped with safety technology for personnel safety. The European Machinery Directive sets out the basic safety and health protection requirements and is implemented as legally binding in Germany in the Product Safety Act (ProdSG). With the new TBPN safety module, we can now close the existing portfolio gaps for machine and plant manufacturers. The requirement for using the new hybrid safety module is a fieldbus-based PROFINET/ PROFIsafe automation solution with integrated safety control. (see Ideal Customer). 3
Of course, the classic automotive customers (e.g. automotive body plant or robot applications) with PROFINET/PROFIsafe are just as much our customers as machine and plant engineering (paper machines, wood processing) and also conveyor and storage technology. The expanded temperature range and the protection class IP69K open up further application areas here. Target Customer Profile: The Ideal Customer OEM Long-Term Customer Openly and freely chose a fieldbus-based IP67 standard and safety I/O solution Uses SIEMENS PROFINET for control purposes Uses SIEMENS PROFINET with PROFIsafe with safety control Is already in the process of switching from PROFIBUS to PROFINET with PROFIsafe and is looking for both a suitable standard I/O as well as a safety solution Sees the benefit of both standard and safety I/Os directly on the machine, instead of leading all signals back to the control cabinet Is currently evaluating the new SIEMENS control generation, including with safety option (as the S7-15xxF(Failsafe) controls already have PROFINET and PROFIsafe on board, while PROFIBUS has to be retrofitted at extra expense Has a small to medium-sized machine (number of participants in PROFINET), as each TBEN module naturally requires an IP address and the number of possible IP addresses in a SIE- MENS control is finite. Product Launch Both the devices and the software are available and can be offered and sold as a standard product. Outlook As European or German machine and plant engineering sells its systems worldwide, a fieldbus-based safety solution is required as mandatory and not just for a fieldbus system. In addition to the PROFINET/PROFIsafe solution, a CIP safety module will be provided for the ETHERNET/IP system at the end of the first quarter of 2017. These two systems from Siemens and Rockwell cover significant areas of the global market for automation solutions Specially for the German automotive manufacturers, a module will be provided in the AIDA housing in the next year. The determination of the safe or standard input/output configurations and their distribution and other technologies, e.g. IO-Link masters, will be guided by the requirements of our customers (market) and their applications. Competition and Competitor Product in IP6x A direct competitor comparison with products from other manufacturers does not currently make sense for the PROFIsafe hybrid module, because we are the first to offer a hybrid safety module in the current configuration with safe configurable inputs/outputs, not safe universal I/Os and an IO-Link. The only competitor that offers a PROFINET/PROFIsafe IP67 safety solution is Murr Elektronik. 4
The safety module is available in two versions with a different number of safe inputs and outputs. The housing is made from metal. Both the AIDA module and the standard modules are already available and being used by customers. The standard module MVK MPNIO F DI16/8 (55560) has a maximum of 16 one-channel or eight two-channel safety inputs. The MVK MPNIO F DI8/4 DO4 (55561) module has both eight one-channel and four two-channel safety inputs and an additional four two-channel safety outputs. The modules can be used in safety applications up to Cat 4/PLe (EN ISO 13849-1), up to SIL 3 (IEC 61508), and up to SILCL 3 (IEC 62061). For the AIDA design, there are also two versions MVK MPNIO F DI16/8 (55562) and MVK MPNIO F DI8/4 DO4 (55561), with the same module function and designation but different order numbers. All listed safety modules only have safe inputs and/or safe outputs. Standard signals or IO-Link cannot be connected here. However, they are working intensively on a similar solution at Murr. Standard module AIDA module Murr offers their own software tool to configure the different properties of the safe inputs: MVKSafety_Configurator. MKV Safety Configurator shown here as an example for the DI16/8 module. Unlike the Turck Configurator, only the inputs and outputs can be parametrized in the Murr Safety Configurator to obtain the CRC code for the F-CPU. A later version of the Turck Safety Configurator will give our customers the opportunity to build safe pre-processing. This will shorten the switch-off delay to safety-related actuators, as the data does not need to be passed on to the F-CPU, processed and output first. Beckhoff and B&R also have safety modules, including in protection class IP67, but these are only coordinated with the in-house fieldbus system. Even Siemens only offer PROFINET with PROFIsafe protection class IP20, not IP67. Here there are PROFIBUS with PROFIsafe modules with a corresponding protection class. No competitor has a safety module with the hybrid input/output structure and the associated configuration options. Murr Elektronik is the only competitor in the IP67 area with a PROFINET/PROFIsafe solution. Balluff is also planning to introduce safety-focused modules, but has yet to reach that point. Please let us know if you come across a customer with these safety modules. Prices, order references and customer feedback help us to develop product marketing strategies to handle these competitors. 5
What Has Not Changed? Expanded applications The new Safety TBDP module is approved end-to-end for the operating temperature range of -40 C + 70 C. This allows it to be used in safety applications which could not previously be achieved. In addition, the modules not only achieve protection class IP67, as was previously standard, but also IP65 and IP69K. Housing optimization retained The housing improvements already introduced, such as the two market-standard mounting holes, the use of M6 screws for installation, as well as the increased distance between the M12 connectors for more handling comfort. Just one screw needs to be loosened to open the rotary switch window, which further simplifies the handling of the device. Output currents Furthermore, as with TBEN-L, all outputs (safe and standard) are designed for 2 A output current. There are potential restrictions for the simultaneous use of all outputs under full load and taking the ambient temperature into account. The details of the "deratings" are documented in the data sheet. Rotary switch and voltage supply The shape and size of the rotary switches have also been left unchanged for the new safety module, to ensure they are simple to operate. The 7/8" voltage supply has also been retained to guarantee consistent cabling with the remaining TBEN-L modules. Robustness The robust design of our modules, which meet the highest quality standards and the current shock and vibration requirements thanks to full potting and metal connectors, has already been covered in full. The hybrid TBEN module also continues this tradition. Price The list price for all safety modules is EUR 749.00 and the price group is D1. 6
