This step- by- step guide will demonstrate how to utilize the Dropbox Tool in your course in Desire2Learn (D2L). Locating the Dropbox Tool: 1. Go to the Course Navigation Bar and locate the Dropbox Tool. Select Dropbox. 2. The Dropbox Tool appears titled Dropbox Folders and displays the list of dropbox folders for you class. Our example shows that we have one (1) Folder in our Dropbox Tool titled, Orientation Practice. Your course may have many more folders depending on how your instructor organized the course content. When you are ready to submit a course assignment to the Dropbox, you will identify the folder associated to the assignment and select the name, in this case Orientation Practice, from the list. The Orientation Practice Dropbox page will open in Springboard! How to Submit Files to a Dropbox Folder 3. We selected Orientation Practice and you can see that it opened the Submit Files option. The Dropbox Tool has two sections: Folder Information and Submit Files. If the Folder Information section does not appear, you may have to select the Show Folder Information option. Let s first look at the Folder Information section. The first item shown is the name of the Folder: Orientation Practice. This is your opportunity to confirm again that you are using the correct dropbox for your assignment. The next item you may see would be Instructions. If your instructor included instructions for this assignment, they will be shown here. As you can see by our example, there are six instructions listed for Orientation Practice. The third item that may be shown is a Deadline. Our example does not show a deadline, but if your instructor has set Springboard! to close your access to this dropbox folder, the date will be displayed after the Instructions. It will say Deadline: Jan 00, 20XX X:00 AM or PM. This is an IMPORTANT bit of information because you will not have access to your dropbox folder or be able to submit your assignment after this time. Finally, if your instructor has included a file associated to the dropbox assignment, you will find the name of the file as a link following Attachments:. By selecting the file name listed, you can download the file for use with your assignment. There is no file attached to our example. Next, let s look at how to submit your assignment file(s). 4. The lower section of the Dropbox Folder is titled Submit Files. Page 2 of 6 Rev. 12/12/2012
To submit an assignment file to the dropbox folder, the first step is to select the Add a File button. A new pop- up window appears displaying your options to add your file. Your first option is to Drag- and- Drop your file onto the area with the dashed outline. Another option is to select the location of your file from the column of options on the left: My Computer or eportfolio, or by selecting the Upload button. If you select Upload or, once the source is chosen, select the Choose File button to navigate to the actual file that you wish to submit. Yet another pop- up window will appear that you will use to navigate to your assignment file. When you have located your file, select the Open button. That window will close and your file name will appear under the Upload button. If you have more than one file to submit to Page 3 of 6 Rev. 12/12/2012
this dropbox, drag- and- drop another or select the Upload button and repeat the selection process. 5. When all of your files have been chosen and added to the list, select the Done button to transfer them to a temporary holding area. 6. You are not done yet! The files that you selected to submit are now listed as links at the top of the Submit Files section of the Dropbox Folder. You have the opportunity to edit your submission at this point. If you choose not to submit any of the attached files, you can select the Red X icon next to the name of the file, which will remove it before submitting to your instructor. You can also add a message about your assignment submission in the Comments section by selecting the text edit box and typing your comment. 7. Once you are satisfied with your assignment submission, select the Submit button. Confirmation of File Submission Success! 8. You will receive a File Upload Results page with a recap of the submission process. It displays your name, the name of the dropbox folder, and the name of your file. It also shows a date and time stamp confirming the submission before the assignment deadline. Page 4 of 6 Rev. 12/12/2012
NOTE: You will also receive a confirmation email in your uakron email account. It is recommended that you print the File Upload Results page as well as retain the email for submission confirmation. Let s return to the Dropbox Folder List. 9. You will see that there is now one file listed under Submissions for our dropbox folder. If you select the number 1 you are taken to the Submission History page. This is another location to access a recap of the Dropbox transaction including the File Name, any Comments, and the Date and Time the file was submitted. Dropbox Feedback 10. If your Instructor has included the Updates widget in the course homepage, you will get a notification when your submission has been graded or the Instructor has provided feedback on the assignment. You can also go directly to the Dropbox Folders list page and identify your submissions that have received feedback. Page 5 of 6 Rev. 12/12/2012
In our example, you can see that you have received a Score of 10 out of a possible 10 and that there is Feedback from the Instructor that you can view. Above the word View, there is a highlight on the icon indicating that you have not viewed the feedback for this dropbox folder. If you select either the icon or the word View, you are taken to the View Feedback page. Under the User Submission section, you can see the Feedback including the Score, the Date and Time that the feedback was posted by the Instructor, and any comments that were included in the feedback. If you have additional dropboxes with feedback that you wish to view, or submit files to, you can use the Done link to return to the Folder List. When you return to the Folder List page, you will notice that the highlight is no longer on the Feedback icon because you have read it already. Page 6 of 6 Rev. 12/12/2012
