ASSISTANT ICT NETWORK MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION Support Staff The school has been designated by the Secretary of State as a school with a religious character. Its Instrument of Government states that it is part of the Catholic Church and is to be conducted as a Catholic school in accordance with Canon Law, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Trust Deed of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This appointment is with the governors of the school under the terms of the Catholic Education Service contract signed with the governors as employers. It is subject to the current conditions of service for support staff and other current education and employment legislation including that of the Department for Education. JOB PURPOSE: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: LIAISES WITH: Supporting the ICT Network Manager in maintaining the school s IT network, systems and equipment, providing 1st and 2nd line support, training and guidance to all users to ensure the highest quality teaching and learning. To provide cover in the absence of the ICT Network Manager. Headteacher, SLT Cluster Leader, School Business Manager, ICT Network Manager ICT Technician, Junior ICT Technician & Multi-Media Technician All members of staff (teaching and support), students, suppliers, external contractors and other stakeholders. GRADE: Grade 6 WORKING PATTERN: 37 hours per week Full Time-Full Year Mon Thursday 8.00am 4.00pm Friday 8.00am 3.30pm Lunch 30 minutes Flexibility to suit the needs of the school and attendance at specific evening events is expected, for which overtime or time in lieu will be payable
MAIN DUTIES STRATEGIC PLANNING Assist in the support and development of the Computing curriculum Assist in the monitoring and review the types, prioritisation and volumes of system traffic alongside system faults and subsequent root cause analysis where necessary. In the absence of the ICT Network Manager attend relevant meetings where the ICT service is discussed and input is required. Proactively anticipate the needs of the school and make recommendations for future purchases to ensure continuous operation of the networks. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Line manage the ICT Technician, Junior ICT Technician & Multi-Media Technician contributing to their recruitment, induction and professional development. This will be recorded using the My Professional Record system. Placing orders on behalf of the school in accordance with the school s Financial Regulations to achieve best value. Support the school in ordering, stocking and replenishing ICT consumables together with promoting acceptable and cost-effective use. Ensure the school works within relevant legislation such as the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act. DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF TECHNICAL SYSTEMS Assist the ICT Network Manager in ensuring all school ICT systems are fully operational during those hours defined by the school as core business hours and during key school events. Communicate effectively with all appropriate colleagues when updates/issues require the system or parts of the system to be shut down Assist and support the ICT Network Manager to design, develop and implement the network infrastructure to meet the school s requirements. Assist the ICT Network manager in ensuring the network operating systems, components and attached devices are kept up to date with latest, tested patches and oversee the maintenance of the same where required. Provide second level in-school support for more complex requests; perform advanced troubleshooting on PCs peripherals and applications. Advise on compatibility of hardware, applications and operating systems, according to user requirements. Install, configure, test and manage the deployment of system and client applications whether new or upgraded. To assist in resolving issues relating to the school s CCTV, telephony, printing and site access and visitor management systems Ensure all current and planned web-based technologies remain fully operational. Assist in managing internet access filtering, email filtering and related monitoring systems. Maintain the currency and effectiveness of the school s Anti-Virus system, ensuring that a suitable recovery procedure is in place. Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of information held on the school s networks and when being delivered to and sent by users
Assist in the management and maintenance of the school s growing network of Apple Macintosh computers. Develop and oversee a school ticketing system. Assign tickets and jobs to other members of the team. Ensure that all deadlines are met. Oversee regular stock checks and maintain appropriate records as required by the ICT Network manager. Oversee safe disposal of obsolete equipment, used consumables and waste materials in line with recognised procedures and legal requirements. Oversee the auditing of the school ICT equipment as directed by the ICT Network Manager DEVELOPING THE EXPERTISE OF OTHERS IN EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES Maintain the school Virtual learning Environment (Office 365). Support staff with day to day ICT related problems. Undertake available training opportunities and demonstrate a commitment to continuous development both personally and for other IT support staff Carry out audits of student and staff internet usage and monitor compliance with the ICT acceptable usage and E-safety policies SCHOOL SUPPORT To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, safeguarding, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate member of staff as soon as they arise. Assistant ICT NETWORK MANAGER PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications Essential Hold both server and network qualifications at NVQ Level 4 or equivalent or equivalent significant demonstrable experience of managing medium to large, mixed networks preferably within an educational environment.
