1.0 General. NetDraw is a drawing editor, developed for making a graphic presentation modul for the control and surveillance program NetTroll. By using NetDraw you can build screem images in order to have clearly defined diagrams of the outstations. There are many ways in which to draw distribution network diagrams. NetDraw is developed to maintain a large degree of flexibility when choosing a network presentation. In NetDraw you can draw a single line diagram of the network and insert remotely controlled and/or manual switches. There is also the possibility of importing scanned diagrams/maps to used as image background. 1.1. System requirements: 486/Pentium PC. 16MB RAM. 32MB is recommend. Windows 95 / Windows NT 15MB available harddisk-memory. A 20 monitor is recommended, but in smaller networks a 17 may well be used. 1.2. Installation: NetDraw is installed together with NetTroll. When installation is complete, you will find NetDraw in the same filefolder as NetTroll. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 2 av 20

2.0 Getting started. Before starting NetTroll, you must create a file where all information about the outstations is stored. This file is created in NetDraw. In NetDraw you draw a single-line diagram giving a graphic overview of the outstations in the network. In the flow-chart below you will see the sequences in building the system. In the next chapters we will explain the main functions of the program. The best thing to do when reading further in this manual would be to have a PC with NetDraw installed in front of you. 2.1 Starting a project file. When starting NetDraw you can either start on a new drawing, or edit an existing diagram. A file containing a single line diagram we call a Project File. 2.1.1Open a new project: The first thing to do is to open a new worksheet. You can do this in two ways: Use the drop-down menu File.../ New or use the toolbar button. The worksheet which you place your drawing on will now appear. It is advisable to now create a project file for this drawing. 2.1.2 Save the worksheet as an project file: If this worksheet isn t saved before, the Save As-window will appear. Type the filename. Note that NetDraw automaticly will make a extention name:.net. If you change this extention, you will not be able to open this drawing in NetTroll. The netfile must be stored in the same file folder as the system setup-file nettroll.ini. This setting is default. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 4 av 20

If you are saving an existing project, you can choose File.../Save Project... from the dropdown menu, or by using the toolbar button. Are you about to make big changes to the drawing (project), you should make a backup of the original document. Enter the original document, and choose Save As. Find a new filename for the revised document. NOTE! NetDraw has no autostore function. A thumb-rule is therefore to backup the document every five minutes by pressing the savebutton in the toolbar. 2.1.3 Open an existing project file: Select File.../Open... or press Open-button in the toolbar. NOTE! If you open an existing schematics for editing, you have to restart NetTroll before the changes makes any effect in NetTroll. If you change the filename, also remember to change the netfile expression in nettroll.ini. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 5 av 20

3.0 Drawing. Before you start making your schematics, windows and pictures, you should have an idea about the result. Make some scetches on a piece of paper. In NetDraw you can place the schematics in several layers. Each layer can e.g. represent one subnet. One subnet can have more subnets and so on. All these subnets can be linked together in a simple way. Either in the same layer or between differen layers. See figure below: Links between layers/nets. 3.1 Importing schematics and maps. It is possible to import a schematic diagram from other programs. You can also scan a map into a windows-format, which is possible to cut from one program and paste into NetDraw. This object will be laying as a background in the drawing, and are not editable. Each outstation must be programmed as described later in this manual. Use the Place on botton -command to be able to draw lines and outstations on top of the map/diagram. It is not possible to place text on the background map. The text must then be placed as an button, like links explained later in this chapter. 3.2 Netname. The firs thing to do is choosing the drawsheets that will be used for the actual drawings. We name these according to the nets that are to be drawn. The first sheet coming up when starting NetDraw is called net_1. The second net is called net_2 and so on. These names have of course no reference to you own net names, so you can rename these nets with your own names. Later you can create links between different subnet names. Rename the sheet by double-click on the sheet-button in the down left corner of the sheet. The following box will appear: Enter the Sheet Name. (Name of the subnet). 3.3 Adding more nets: If you devide your diagram in to several subnets, you open a new worksheet for every new subnet you make. Open a new sheet by pressing the Make new net-button in the toolbar, or by choosing File.../new... in the drop-down menu. This is the same command as explain earlier, but have a different function as soon as you have defined a project file. 3.4 Linking subnets: You can devide you distribution network image into several subnets. If your net is to big to fit into one window, it is better to devide it into subnets, with links between these nets. Instead of scrolling the window you simply draw a button so that you can alter easely between differtent nets. Name the button with the same name as the net you make the link to. Do this: Press in the toolbar. Draw a button on the place you want to e.g. extend the schematics. You can move the buttom where you want to on the sheet as long as the button is the selected object. You can also change the size of the button by pulling one of the 8 handles making an invisible rectangele sorrounding the object. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 7 av 20

Tip: By pressing the Alt-key while drawing or moving a button (or any other object), the object will follow the grid pattern in the sheet. If you loose the button as the selected objekt, you can select it again by clicking the object while pressing the Ctrlkey. Other objects are selected simply by clicking them. The button are supposed to make a link between two nets. To do this the button-name must be the same as the net you want to alter to. Use the Program-buttom in the toolbar: or use the Object.../ Button Text...-command in the drop-down menu. NOTE! Make sure that the button you want to program is the selected object in the drawing before you use the above command. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 8 av 20

4.0 Drawing. There are several ways to draw a single line diagram, both regarding symbols and what to include other than switches and indicators. We have therefore made the drawing editor very flexible in order to let each user find his/her way of creating a diagram. We will not give a fixed answer as to how a finished diagram should look, but will provide some useful hints in order to get the diagram as well arranged and easily operated as possible. Before starting the actual drawing the best thing is to scetch an outline of how you want the finished diagram to look like. 4.1 The toolbar: Several buttons in the toolbar have more than one function. The function is dependent of which object on the schematic diagram is the selected one. The buttons can be devided into two groups: File Command buttons and Draw Command Buttons. 4.1.1. File Command buttons : New net. This buttons open a new net (Draw-sheet). If you are deviding the network into several subnets, this is the button you click once for every new net. Open. Opens an existing project/drawing. Save. If you already have saved the project as a file, you just press this button to save it again. If you not have saved the project as a file, this button opens the Save As window. Cut. Cuts the selected object from the diagram. The object(s) will be temporarly placed on the Windows clipboard. Copy. This command makes a copy of the selected object(s) on the Windows Clipboard. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 9 av 20

Paste. One or more object(s) on the Windows Clipboard will be placed on the point you have selected on you drawing. This can well be a bitmap image of a pcture, scanned map e.g. 4.1.2 Draw Command Buttons: Important! You have to select the Draw Command Button for each line, rectangle or circle even if the next object is of the same type as the previous. Place node. With this button you draw rectangles. You also use the button to place and size symbols for outstations. Place the cursor on the point on the schematic you want to place the rectangle. Hold the mouse-button down while you drag the rectangle to the decided size. In order to align the object with the grid pattern on the worksheet, move the object while pressing the Alt-key. If you are using this command to draw an outstation, you first draw a rectangle with same size as the size you want the outstation symbol to appear in. A rule of thumb is to make the symbol the same size as one grid outline in the worksheet. Tip: Press the Alt-key while you draw the object. If you are drawing many outstation symbols you first draw one with right size. Use the Cut/Paste function to place the other outstation symbols in order to get exactly the same size of all symbols. Draw a circle. You draw a circle in the same way as a rectangle. The symbol for an remote indicator is a circle. Thus you don t have to draw a circle to define an remote indicator symbol. You can program any drawn object as an outstation. The object will be replaced with the appropriate symbol for that outstation when programmed. Draw line. Place the pointer on the start point of the line. Hold mouse button down while you drag the pointer tho the finish point. In order to align object with the grid lines on the worksheet, move the pointer while pressing the Alt-key. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 10 av 20

Draw a polygon. Place the pointer where you want to start. Move the pointer to the next point in the polygon and press the mouse-button. Continue around the outline until you close the polygon by ending up at the starting point. Clock the mouse button once more. This way to draw a polygon is called point-to-point. Another way is called floating points, or freehand drawing. Press the mouse button and hold it down while moving the cursor around on the worksheet. Close the freehand polygon by ending up at the starting point. Press the mousebutton once more. Draw button. Creates a link between different worksheets (nets). Draw the button in the same way as all other objects. Delete object. Deletes the selected object(s) in the drawing. To select more than one object, press the Shift-key while you select the objects. NOTE! There is no undo-function in this program. Edit. Change the vertical and/or the horizontal size of the object. Drag one of the eight handles forming a rectangle around the object. To change the shape of a polygon, just drag the handles in the corners of the polygon to the position you want. Program. This is the programmig button. It opens a programming form in which you enter the adress, type of outstation and the outstation name. This is to set up the link between the outstation symbol and the outstation itself. If a link-button is the selected object the programming buttun opens a form which the button name can be edited. Place object on top. Places the selected object on top of other objects in the drawing. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 11 av 20

Place object on botton. Places the selected object in the bottom of the drawing. 4.2 Editing functions. While drawing it will often be desirable to resize, move or delete objects. This can be done by using the editing tools available in NetDraw. These tools have the same function for all objects. 4.2.1 Delete an object or a line: Select the object or line by clicking it. Press Delete object-button. Note there is no undo-function in NetDraw. 4.2.2 Sizing an object: Select the object. Drag one of the eight handles forming a rectangle around the object. By pressing the Alt-key simultanously the size of the object will change according to the auxillary pattern on the worksheet. 4.2.3 Edit the lenght of a line.: Select the line. Drag one of the end handles on the line. Place the handle on the new start or stoppoint in the worksheet. 4.2.4 Edit the line outline: Select the line. Select from drop-down menu: Object.../Line... Select from the list the line style and the line width. 4.2.5 Edit a object outline: Applicable for rectangles, circles and polygon. Select the line. Select from drop-down menu: Object.../Line... Select from the list the line style and the line width. You may also change the outline color. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 12 av 20

4.2.6 Moving an object or a line: Select the object or the line. Move the object or line by placing the cursor at a point sorrounding the object, press the mouse button and hold it down while moving the cursor to the desired location. Release the mouse button. By simultanously pressing the Alt-key, the object or line will align to the grid pattern in the worksheet. 4.2.7 Editing a polygon: You can both edit the size and the shape of a polygon. Select the polygon. All corners (or floating points) in the polygon will get an movable handle. Move this handle(s) to the new point(s) by holding down the mousebutton. 4.2.8 Bring to front / bring to back: If two or more objects (or lines) overlap, you can select the order they will appear in. To bring an object to front, press the Bring to front-key. To bring an objeck to back in th edrawing, press the Bring to back-key. These functions are also accessible from the drop-down menu. 4.2.9 Selecting more than one object: In order to select more than one object at the time, click the first object and while pressing the Shift-key click the other object(s). This function makes it faster to perform the same changes to several objects in one operation. The following editing options are available after having selected more than one object: - Change background colour. - Change line outline. - Change object outline - Change fonts. - Delete. - Cut / Paste. - Copy. You can not move or size more than one object in a single operation. 4.3 Colours: In order to get a better and more clearly defined picture you can colour the objects after drawing them. You can also add background colour to the worksheet. 4.3.1 Colouring an object: Select the object. Select Object.../ Pattern... from the drop-down menu. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 13 av 20

You can now choose the coluor or colourpattern you want for the object. Or you can remove the object colour entirely. (Making the object transparent). Any object hidden behind will then become visible. You do this by clicking the white top left square in the Pattern window. By clicking the white no. two from left square, you will get a white background. By choosing a pattern you can combine two colours. The foreground colour is chosen from the palette on the left and the background by using the one on the right. 4.3.2 Colouring a line: Select the desired line(s). Select Object... / Line... Choose the desired colour from the palette. By clicking Automatic the line becomes black. 4.3.3 Add background colour: Select the entire desired area by placing the cursor in the top left corner of the picture, pressing the mousekey while pulling it to the down right hand corner. Choose Format.../ Pattern... Choose the desired background colour. Tip: Zoom out the picture if you want background colour on the entire diagram. Do NOT add background colour before the whole diagram is finished. The auxillary pattern of the worksheet will then disappear. 4.4 Text Text can be inserted anywhere in the picture. It can however not be put on top of an object. This means that the text will not be visible when putting an object on top of the text. The textfunction in NetDraw is not meant for longer textparagraphs, but better suited for adding names. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 14 av 20

4.4.1 Placing the text: Select the starting point for the text. Write the text. 4.4.2 Editing text: Select the square of the auxillay pattern where the text begins. The text will appear in the text editing box in the toolbar menu. Select the part of the text you want to change by using the cursor or rewrite the text. 4.4.3 Editing font: Choose font from the text editing window, or select Format... / Font... from the menu: Here you may choose the desired font, font style, size and colour. A sample of the selection will be shown in sample window. Tip: The auxillary pattern of the worksheet corresponds to font size 12. If you want to use larger fonts, you have to adjust the row height where the text shall appear. This is done as follows: Place the cursor at the beginning of the text (or at a point in the same line). Choose Format.. / Row Height.. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 15 av 20

In this window you can adjust the height manually by entering the desired height in its assigned window. If you want the row height the same as the font size you have chosen, you click the Auto-button. If you want to change back to the pre-set value, this is done by clicking Use default height. 4.4.4 Text alignment: In this window you have all possibilities available for placing text in a specific box. The placing of the text can be done both vertically and horizontally and are always adjusted with the start point of the text as an reference. NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 16 av 20

4.5 Editing existing schematic diagrams. If you want to edit the layout of an existing diagram or add new out-stations, this is easlily done in NetDraw. 1. Exit NetTroll. 2. Start NetDraw. 3. Open the file you want to edit by selecting File../Open.. 4. Make the changes and close NetDraw. 5. Start NetTroll without changing anything in nettroll.ini. 5.0 Programming outstations: The programming of the outstations can be done after the networks have been drawn. You start by drawing a square where you want to place an outstations, e.g. a remotly controlled or a manually operated switch. This square will later be automatically replaced by a symbol depending on what type of outstation it is defined as. In order to make the squares (symbols) of equal size you can use the editing tools Copy and Paste. Draw a rectangle and click Copy. (Ctrl-C). Place the cursor at the next point where you want an outstation and Paste. (Ctrl-V). A rule of thumb is to size the outstation symbol like one square in the grid pattern. Important: The square that you draw will tell NetDraw what size and placing the symbol is to have. Therefore the the square must be drawn in the size you want for the symbol. The next step is to define various types of outstations. How these types are defined is explained in the user-guide for NetTroll in the chapter dealing with the NetTroll.INI-file. The.net-file must be placed in the same file folder as the NetTroll-programs. When all the outstations have been drawn, the programming can start: 5.1 Programming one outstation: Select the square symbolizing an outstation. Press the Program ( )-button. This will activate the programming form: NetDraw 2.0 for Windows-95 Side 17 av 20

In the programming window the following must be filled in: 1: Node ID. Here you enter the cross-reference number for this out-station. This cross-reference must first be programmed into COMTROLL 5000. Se manual for COMTROLL 5000 for further details. NetDraw will demand that all types of out-stations are defined by a Node ID. This also applies for manually operated switches. Important! It is not allowed to program one outstation twice in the same net. The same outstation can however be programmed in different nets e.g. limit swtiches. Two outstations of different station types cannot be programmed with the same Node ID, independent of what net these outstations belongs to. 2: Nodetype: When clicking the arrow you will see a list of all types of out-stations defined in nettroll.ini. Select the type you want for the station that you are programming. 3: Node Name: Here you enter the name you want for identifying the out-station. This name will be placed on a button appearing next to the symbol. 4: Position of line: If the outstation symbol is placed on a horizontal line, select horisontal. If the station is placed on a vertical line, select: vertikal. 5: Placing the name-button: Imagine the symbol situated in the middle of the matrix. The numbers in the matrix will give the position of the button compared to the symbol. By choosing 1 the button will appear to the top left of the symbol. Important: You will seldom find that the size of the button corresponds to the size of the text. This must be changed after the station has been programmed.
