Step 1 Establishing Communications using Dial-up Networking (Windows 2000 Users) 2/23/2001 This handout provides instructions for establishing communications with Cahaba GBA through Windows Network & Dial-up Connection. It may be necessary to have your technical support department involved in this step should you encounter any problems. Depending on the hardware and software you have installed on your PC, there may be additional steps that you and your technical support department will have to complete in order to connect to Cahaba GBA. Because these steps will be specific to your PC and your network, you may need to modify some of the instructions below. Also, please note that if you do not have a modem installed on your PC, you will need to install a modem before proceeding with these instructions. Section I Network & Dial-up Connection Setup Follow the steps below to ensure Network & Dial-up Connection is established and operational on your PC. 1. Close any applications (e.g., e-mail, word processing software) that you may have open. 2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 1
3. Double Click Control Panel. 4. Is there a Network and Dial-up Connection folder within the Control Panel window? Yes? Go to Section II Create Cahaba GBA Connection. No? Double-click on the Control Panel folder and continue with Step #4 below. 5. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 2
6. Click the Add/Remove Windows Components button. 7. The Windows Components window appears. If the Networking Services component is not checked, check the component Networking Services component is unchecked. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 3
Dial-up Networking is now checked 8. Click Next and follow the prompts. A window may appear that indicates the components are being configured. This is normal. You may even be requested to insert your Windows system CD. If prompted for this, please follow the onscreen instructions. When finished, a window will appear (see below). Click Finish. Section II - Create Cahaba GBA Connection 1. Close any applications (e.g., e-mail, word processing software) that you may have open. 2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. 3. Double-click on the Control Panel icon within the My Computer window. Double-click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon once you are in the Control Panel window. 4. Double-click on Make a New Connection. This will automatically launch the Network Connection Wizard that will prompt you through setting up your connection. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 5
1. The first screen to display will be the Network Connection Wizard welcome. Click Next. 2. Under Network Connection Type select Dial-up to private network. Click on Next. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 6
3. Type the phone number to connect with Cahaba GBA in the Phone Number prompt the same way you would dial it if you were calling out on a phone line. If your phone system requires you to enter a number or code in order to dial an outside line, enter that number or code preceeding the telephone number. The telephone number is 1-205-988-8282. You should enter this phone number without dashes or hyphens. You do not need to complete the Area Code or Country Code prompts. Click on Next. 4. Select For all Users. Click on Next. 5. Type in Cahaba GBA in the name field and be sure to checkmark the Add a shortcut to my desktop box at the bottom of the Completing the Network Connection Wizard. Click on Finish. 6. Exit all applications. 7. Double-click on the Cahaba GBA icon on your desktop. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 8
8. Click on the Properties button. 9. Verify that the telephone number is correct on the General tab (see step 3 above for the correct number). Click Options tab. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 9
9. Make sure that Include Windows logon domain is unchecked. If you would like your PC to automatically attempt to redial if your connection is lost, checkmark the Redial if line is dropped box. Click on the Security tab. 10. Make sure that Typical is checkmarked. Nothing else should be checkmarked. Click on the Networking tab. Cahaba GBA EDI Services 10
11. Make sure that PPP:Windows 95/98/NT 4/2000, Internet is displayed as the Type of dial-up server I am calling. Be sure that the only Internet Protocol checkmarked is TCP/IP. Click on OK. 12. You have completed the steps to set up a dial-up networking connection for Cahaba GBA. To connect to Cahaba GBA, double-click on the CahabaGBA icon.
