He has practiced facility management since 1979, performing building audits, organizational evaluations, and training of management and engineering staff in all aspects of building operations. He earned his Master s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and Bachelor of Science Degree from Clarkson University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Registered Roof Consultant (Roof Consultants Institute), Certified Facility Manager (International Facility Management Association), and LEED Accredited Professional (U.S. Green Building Council). Chris is an active member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), serving two terms as President of the Capital Chapter, and a two-year term on the IFMA Board of Directors. He currently chairs IFMA s Sustainability Committee and is an active member of the Education Committee. Chris was elected to the 2005 class of IFMA Fellows, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2005. He is an IFMA Master Instructor, and a member of the adjunct faculty at George Mason University s Professional Certificate Program in Facility Management and the Professional Certificate Program in Sustainability for Existing Buildings. Chris has authored and presented papers nationally and internationally for IFMA, the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the European Facility Management Conference (EFMC), and the Middle- East Facility Management Conference (FAMM). He has conducted workshops and lectured across the U.S., in Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle-East, Asia, and Australia on sustainable facility management, performance design, building evaluation, operations and maintenance, asset management, and understanding building life cycle. Chris is co-author of the book: Sustainable Facility Management The Facility Manager s Guide to Optimizing Building Performance, published in November.
Chris has also been recognized with several awards for his volunteer association efforts: Chairman s Citation from the Chair of IFMA, October Certificate of Special Recognition for the Article: The FM and the Carbon Footprint, from IFMA s Facility Management Journal (FMJ), October Distinguished Author Award Article or Research Paper from IFMA, for the Getting Started Guide for the IFMA Foundation, October 2010 Course Development Experience International Facility Management Association Mr. Hodges is an IFMA Master instructor, and routinely participates in new course development, curriculum development, and has been active in promoting IFMA s professional development and credentialing programs. He consistently maintains high instructor ratings from IFMA in teaching the Certified Facility Manager Review course, and in the core competency courses that comprise the Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation. Chris led the development team for IFMA s Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) credential and has led Train-the-Trainer classes for the SFP and CFM courses. He has also presented several IFMA I-sessions on the topics of operations and maintenance and sustainability, and the value of the credentialing program. Chris is also actively engaged in the development of IFMA s Essentials program; an entry level view of facility management developed for emerging FM professionals around the world. Asset Management, Strategic Facility Planning, and Sustainability Asset Management and Strategic Facility Planning Chris routinely works with clients such as the World Bank, the Smithsonian Institution, Inter-American Development Bank, and International Monetary Fund on capital program management, strategic facility planning, organizational assessments, service level agreements, and operations and maintenance planning. Integration of Computeraided Facility Management (CAFM) tools into enterprise-wide technology systems is often an integral part of these consulting engagements. Sustainability and Green Building Assessment and Strategic Planning Chris routinely works with college and university clients and private sector facility management groups in strategic planning, policy development, and implementation of sustainability and green building practices. His clients include the World Bank, American University, National Education Association, Vision Service Plan, and Jones Lang LaSalle. In addition, he has written and presented extensively on sustainability and green building issues, particularly from the viewpoint of the Facility Manager. Chris was involved in the early development of IFMA s Sustainability Task Force, which has developed into a standing committee of IFMA. He currently serves as Chair of IFMA s Sustainability Committee. IFMA Core Competency and George Mason University Classes Chris is an IFMA Core Competency Course Instructor and Adjunct Instructor in the George Mason University Certificate Program in Facility Management. He is also on the Faculty
