The Early Kindergarten Transition Program will be offered at 41 schools this summer. These are 2-3 week FREE summer programs for children entering kindergarten at those particular schools and their parents. SUMMER 2015 EARLY KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION PROGRAMS A Guide for Community Partners

ABOUT the PROGRAM CLASS TIME FOR CHILDREN Children meet teachers, make new friends, and get familiar with kindergarten skills, routines, and expectations PARENT GROUP MEETINGS Parents get together as a group and connect with the school to learn about kindergarten, ways to support learning at home, and meet school staff and other parents Children receive free books Breakfast and lunch provided for children The Early Kindergarten Transition Program is a part of Kindergarten Counts, a community-wide campaign in Multnomah County that brings together early childhood and school partners to promote successful kindergarten transitions for children and their families in SUN Community Schools. Program GOALS Increase parental involvement in their child s learning Reduce chronic absenteeism in kindergarten Promote children s success in school Program enrollment priority is given to children with no preschool experience. Child care provided during parent groups Transportation provided at some schools SUN Community Schools are a collaboration of Multnomah County, the City of, non profits and local school districts. - 2 -

GET READY for KINDERGARTEN Summer 2015 directory of schools offering the Early Kindergarten Transition Program Space is limited; an enrollment application is required for all programs. Contact the schools for more information. Program days and times vary by school but are typically half day in the mornings. Each school will host a program orientation prior to the first day of the program. Need help identifying which school a child will be entering this fall?
