70S In case with lid detached Fujikura 70S Fusion Splicer The Fujikura 70S is the world s fastest and most robust core alignment fusion splicer. Incorporating the proven ruggedized features pioneered by Fujikura, the 70S has added automated and enhanced user control features to increase splicing efficiency. A user programmable, automated wind protector expedites the splicing process by automatically closing to initiate the splice process, and opening upon splice completion. Fully programmable auto open sheath clamps open one or both sheath clamps, after the tensile test, to prepare the fiber for removal. A new automated clamshell design tube heater applies heat to both sides of the splice protection sleeve resulting in a 14-second shrink time. The result is a total splice process time of approximately 21 seconds! Ruggedness and durability are greatly enhanced by a mirror-less optical system and "severe-impact resistant" monitor. Battery capacity is now 200 splices/shrinks. An innovative transit case doubles as a built-in or mobile workstation and makes splicing easier than ever before. Fujikura 62S Fusion Splicer The Fujikura 62S provides active core alignment splice loss performance while utilizing a conventional wind protector and tube heater design. An alternative to the fully automated core-alignment model 70S, the 62S includes an auto-start feature for both the splicing and tube heating process that minimizes the steps necessary to process splices. With a shrink time of 23 seconds with standard splice sleeves, the 62S ensures a high level of productivity. Incorporating the proven ruggedized features pioneered by Fujikura, durability is greatly enhanced by a mirrorless optical system and "severeimpact resistant" monitor. Battery capacity is 200 splices/shrinks. The transit case doubles as a built-in or mobile workstation and makes splicing easier than ever. FSR-05 FSR-05, FSR-06 and FSR-07 Optical Fiber Recoaters AFL offers a complete lineup of high quality fiber recoaters to address the small packaging needs of the fiber optic industry. The FSR series recoaters provide automatic operation with an easily exchangeable, low cost, mold design. A quick change resin bottle and pump assembly make messy, cumbersome, and time consuming acrylate changes a thing of the past. The pump system also provides a purge cavity for elimination of bubbles in the acrylate material. A programmable resin injection system provides an exact volume of resin to the mold cavity to ensure consistent and repeatable recoat performance. While the base model FSR-05 provides only recoating functions, the FSR-06 and FSR- 07 also provide programmable rate and force proof-testing capabilities up to 2 kgf or 10 kgf respectively. All of the recoaters are compatible with special recoating resins to provide higher stiffness recoating for 900 μm jacketed fibers, as well as specialty low-index resins for recoating of double-clad fibers. A USB - PC interface allows the user to control and store key parameters associated with the recoating process. The quartz mold technology provides very consistent recoating quality and have an estimated lifetime of 10,000 recoats per mold set. PCS-100 Polyimide Coating Stripper Polyimide coated optical fiber are now widely used in the oil and gas and medical industries. The polyimide coating has superior heat and chemical resistance to conventional UV curable coating material, but the coating requires additional care to remove. Dangerous chemical stripping using hot sulfuric acid or burning the coating off are common methods to strip the fiber due to the thin coating and strong coating adhesion to the fiber cladding. AFL s PCS-100 Polyimide Fiber Coating Stripper is the first tool that uses a mechanical stripping method, providing a safe, consistent and quick stripping solution. Optimization Services With the constant introduction of new fiber types as well as the mixing of fiber types in opto-electronic devices such as optical amplifiers and sensors, splicer optimization is essential in minimizing splice loss and keeping splices physically robust. AFL provides an optimization service to determine the optimal settings for any combination of fiber types in any of our splicers. This process involves changing over 50 splicer machine parameters, ranging from splicer arc power to fiber movement rate. These parameters change significantly with fiber characteristics such as fiber diameter, refractive index profile, and dopant composition. In the FSM-45F/PM and FSM-100M/P fusion splicers, optimization plays an important role in maximizing the benefits of sweep arc technology, which minimizes the effects of differences in mode field diameters in a pair of fibers, thereby minimizing splice loss. Splicers also include loss estimation functions, a separate loss estimation optimization is performed to maximize the accuracy of the loss estimation function on the machine to provide the most accurate splice loss readings.
