Service Bulletin: #013 Date: October 2015 Blackbelt, I28 and C28 Backup/Restore Programs This bulletin describes the Restoring Programs and System Files features of the Sentinel Blackbelt (BB) and I28 controls as applied to firmware versions: BB v160 and higher I28 v125 and higher C28 v144 and higher To Backup Programs: Navigate to USB Menu (Global Config/USB). Select Backup All Programs.

Service Bulletin: #013 Page 2 To Restore Programs: Previously backed up test programs can be reloaded using the Restore All Programs feature of the base control. Previously backed up System files and Restore Clone files require a special CTS Service Password to access to the Service Menu to restore these files. Special CTS Service Password For CTS to issue a password you need to provide the time and date information of your instrument. This information can be found by selecting the Global Conf and Misc function on your control. Once you have this information call CTS for an assigned one-hour password that allows access to the Service Menu and the Backup/Restore features of the instrument. (Ref. Service Bulletin 13-A.) Note: Service Passwords expire at the beginning of each hour (instrument time). Clone Backups CTS will maintain an as shipped backup clone for all instruments and jobs shipped from the factory. The Clone Backup file can be installed should a circuit board need to be exchanged. Unless there the is a newer Instrument Clone Backup all user data will be lost when the clone backup is restored. Note: It is highly recommended to perform a Clone Backup of your test instrument after the test setup programming is complete and testing parts to specification and when a test program is modified to meet new part test specifications. Filename and Structure The filename structure for Backup, Back Up All Programs, and the Clone Backup are: Ins_ Instrument type_ Firmware version_ Date (yy/dd/mm) _ Time (hh/mm/ss).cln = Clone Example INS_BB1389_V165_152608_t101356.cln Date (yy/mm/dd)_instrument type_s/n_backup number (##). BAK = Backup Instrument Example 151002_BB1389_0001.bak Date (yy/mm/dd)_instrument type_s/n_backup number (##). PTS = Backup All Programs Example 151002_BB1389_0001.pts

Service Bulletin: #013 Page 3 The restore function (Backup or Instrument Clone) requires a current CTS password for access. Refer to section Special CTS Service Password. Once the password is entered the Service Menu will display. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the USB screen, then the down arrow to the Instr clone selection. Press edit to select Restore Instrument. A pop-up window with all available files will appear then select the proper clone file. This format of the file is displayed as: Ins_ Instrument type_ Firmware version_ Date (yy/dd/mm) _ Time (hh/mm/ss).cln Example INS_BB1389_V165_152608_t101356.cln Once selected a pop-up menu will display the process can take up to 10 minutes to restore. Screen shot of Instrument Clone Backup and Restore Location of Flies When CTS sends a clone file (instrument malfunction) to restore an instrument it is sent as a zip file. For the system to find the restore files they need to be unzipped in a FAT32 formatted USB drive with the folder named Cincinnati Test in the root directory. Many customers struggle with this concept. Example: USB drive Cincinnati Test (folder)/ The folder structure is as follows: Cincinnati Test (folder)/ Instrument type (folder)/ Backup-Restore (folder) BBxxxx-BBxxxx (folder) Displays product name BLACKBELT or I28) instruments The location to find backup and clone files The location for all user generated reports

Service Bulletin: #013 Page 4 Copy the unzipped backup clone files to the Cincinnati Test directory. Once you have the password navigate to USB Menu (Global Config/USB). The system will prompt you to enter the password that was provided by CTS Service. View of the USB Backup/Restore Screen Showing the Restore All Programs Selection View the backup files and select the Current Backup File (either the latest date or last good backup test program) and follow the screen Prompts to complete the restoration. Use the arrow keys to toggle to select the restore option required. Missing File? If the current backup file is not displayed by the instrument, check to ensure that the file path is correct to ensure that the instrument is able to locate the desired file. The USB must be formatted FAT32 (the instrument can format the drive) and backup less than 4 GB of data. USB communications is standard with each instrument. The folder structure is as follows: Cincinnati Test (folder)/ Instrument type (folder)/ Displays product name (BLACKBELT or I28) Backup-Restore (folder) BBxxxx-BBxxxx (folder) The location to find backup and clone files The location for all user generated reports

Service Bulletin: #013 Page 5 Appendix A - Types of Instrument Backups: There are three types of backups available on the current Blackbelt and I28 instruments: All Programs Backup Instrument, and Instrument Clone Backup All Programs: Backup All Programs option will only save the user settings in the program configuration of the instrument. This backup is commonly used to transfer the settings/programs to multiple instruments with the same hardware. This type of backup will generate a file name with the extension.pts. The file name structure is: Date (yy/mm/dd)_instrument type_s/n_backup number (##).PTS Example 151002_BB1389_0001.pts This file can be moved without a CTS generated password. Selecting Restore All Programs will generate a list of files available and allow you to choose the file to restore.

Service Bulletin: #013 Page 6 Backup Instrument: Backup Instrument option will save all program settings as well as hardware configuration and calibration data. This option is intended to provide a backup should the customer want to save data and calibration settings prior to modification. This will generate a file with the.bak extension. Backup Instrument feature will require a CTS generated password provided by CTS Service. This option will overwrite calibration and hardware configuration and is not intended to be used on multiple instruments. The file naming structure is the same as the Backup All Programs structure. Date (yy/mm/dd)_instrument type_s/n_backup number (##).BAK Instrument Clone: Example 151002_BB1389_0001.bak Instrument Clone option will save all data, hardware configuration, user settings and firmware. Instrument Clone intended to provide a complete backup that can be transferred to a different circuit board. The Instrument Clone Backup will allow quick exchange of hardware and reduce downtime. Note: CTS will maintain an as shipped backup clone for all instruments and jobs shipped from the factory. This clone can be installed when a circuit board needs to be exchanged and to restore the instrument to as-shipped factory settings. Unless there is a newer Instrument Clone Backup all user data will be lost. The file structure of the clone is: Ins_ Instrument type_ Firmware version_ Date (yy/dd/mm) _ Time (hh/mm/ss).cln Example INS_BB1389_V165_152608_t101356.cln
