Bachelor Of Business Studies Upgrade your Advanced Diploma to a Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Business Studies at NSI in as little as 12 months nsi.csu@tafensw.edu.au 131 674 www.nsi.tafensw.edu.au

Bachelor of Business Studies TAFE NSW Northern Sydney Institute (NSI) and Charles Sturt University (CSU) have developed a new pathway program, an alliance to allow a seamless transition from an Advanced Diploma qualification in Accounting, Business, Events, Hospitality, Human Resources, Marketing, Management or Tourism to the Bachelor of Business Studies. Students who complete their Advanced Diploma can continue their studies at NSI to gain a degree in Business Studies from CSU. Features of the program This high quality program has the following features: With two years credit, students can complete the Bachelor of Business Studies in 12 months. Save up to 60% of the cost of a degree (due to receiving two years credit). There is no need for students to apply for credit at university level, as this is prearranged with NSI and CSU. This program is delivered at our Crows Nest College, so students can continue studying in a familiar environment. It s no longer necessary to travel away from the Northern Sydney region to pursue your degree. The CSU component of the program is supported under Commonwealth Supported Places (formally HECS).

How will this help me? This program offers the following benefits to students: You will be taught by our teachers who work with CSU to teach and assess the university degree material. The Bachelor of Business Studies is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification. Students will benefit from smaller classes, allowing more discussion time and personalised attention and support from teaching staff. Advanced Diploma Bachelor of Business Studies How long will this take me? Once you have an Advanced Diploma qualification, you can complete the Bachelor of Business Studies in 12 months full-time, or equivalent part-time study. Classes are expected to run full-time day and part-time evening, allowing enough flexibility to ensure all students have the opportunity to gain their CSU degree at NSI. Students have the potential to complete a Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degree in three years. Entry requirements Entry to the Bachelor of Business Studies through Charles Sturt University is open to students with: Advanced Diploma of Accounting (FNS60204) Advanced Diploma of Events (SIT60207) Advanced Diploma of Hospitality (SIT60307) Advanced Diploma of Management (BSB60407) Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources) (BSB60907) Advanced Diploma of Marketing (BSB60507) Advanced Diploma of Tourism (SIT60107)

What support will I receive? Students in this program will have access to the services and facilities provided by NSI and CSU. This includes student support services, access to counselling, computers and the internet, and the library facilities of both institutions. Course Structure The Bachelor of Business Studies component includes the following units of study: BUS383 Managing Global Business This subject endeavours to make the student aware of global trends that are generating opportunities and creating challenges for business. It aims to develop an understanding of the competitive global environment and the fundamentals of doing business in a global setting. A strategic management approach is employed to analyse the operations of global business including hands on experiences that allow students to analyse the opportunities and challenges created by new market entry. Major forms of global business activities are considered with attention given to the risk and environmental considerations necessary for an effective business strategy. BUS384 global Business Project Management Global Business Project Management deals with the effective and efficient design and management of business projects in a global setting. It examines the material from three separate but related contexts, these being; a) strategic or hard skills, such as planning, scheduling and controlling to effectively coordinate business projects b) managerial or soft skills, such as communication, understanding of cultural differences and team building c) practical or informal project management techniques including networking, influencing and improvisation The subject establishes a framework for good practices on global management essential for the success of global projects and programs.

LAW205 Legal Issues for Business This subject examines key Australian legal concepts and issues directly relevant to business operations. A particular focus is placed on contract law and tort law. Other areas include criminal liability in business, real estate and personal property. MGT210 Organisational Behaviour This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of how human behaviour occurs within organisations at the individual, group and organisational levels. The subject examines the factors which influence behaviour as well as strategies which may be adopted to increase the satisfaction and productivity of organisation members. MGT230 Ethics, Sustainability and Culture The subject examines the nature of ethics and the practical application of ethical theories to a range of issues faced in organisational contexts, including corporate social responsibilities and ethical behaviour in dealing with staff, customers, suppliers and contractors. The subject also deals with concepts of culture, environmental and economic sustainability and their ethical application in national and international organisational contexts. MGT250 Asia-Pacific Business This subject studies recent developments in the Asia-Pacific region and their implications for international business. A thematic approach is used to analyse economics systems, political systems and business culture in the region. Case studies provide detailed analysis of issues and problems in several countries. Australia s changing role in the region is assessed. Advanced Diploma Bachelor of Business Studies

MGT382 Strategy AND Corporate Governance This topic explains and analyses the scope and trends in international business. Areas covered include international and regional economics including trade and development theory; project management concepts as applied to regional and international enterprises; corporate governance responsibility in the international environment; and concepts of strategic management thought and process as applied to a cross cultural internal environment. MGT388 Organisational Change The magnitude and frequency of change occurring in today s competitive, complex, fast-paced global economy means that organisations cannot stand still. They need to change in order to succeed and survive. Therefore, change is a normal part of business life. However, while the necessity for change may seem obvious, methods for managing it (assuming change can be managed) are elusive. This subject critically examines the theoretical and practical tools and issues that face organisations when they confront change.

What about the cost? The degree component of the pathway program is supported under Commonwealth Supported Places (formally HECS). Current fees are available online at: www.csu.edu.au/division/finserv/students/fees.htm For further information on fees and fee assistance, please contact CSU on 1800 334 733. Where can I go after I complete this degree? Your Bachelor of Business Studies coupled with your chosen qualification is suitable for entry into any business field requesting degree level of education. Students can work in positions as team leaders, supervisors, or management positions. Bachelor of Business graduates are well equipped for positions in marketing, management, accounting, human resources and economics. Your chosen area of vocation will depend on your Advanced Diploma qualification. Upon completion of the Bachelor of Business Studies, students can go on to complete a Master of Business in one year of additional study at Charles Sturt University. After completing this qualification, there is also opportunity for students to complete Charles Sturt University s Master of Business Administration (MBA) in a further year of study. How do I apply? For students who have completed an eligible Advanced Diploma, you will need to complete a CSU application form. These forms are available from Northern Sydney Institute or can be downloaded from CSU s website www.csu.edu.au/forms. NSI staff will be able to advise you of the specific closing dates for applications. Completed application forms are to be forwarded to Crows Nest College to ensure that applications meet the entry requirements and are then sent to the CSU Admissions Office by the close off dates. For general information on how to apply to CSU visit www.csu.edu.au/study/how-to-apply.htm or please visit www.nsi.tafensw.edu.au for enrolment dates and details.
