Languages American English Enhancements VMware Support These HBAs support VMware ESX. VMware has embedded drivers that support HBAs. HP recommends that you only use certified drivers as described in the VMware I/O Compatibility Guide, which lists the HBAs and drivers that have been certified for each ESX version. In addition, see the VMware Storage/SAN Compatibility Guide at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_san_guide.pdf. Prerequisites If you are installing the Linux operating system for the first time, load the operating system and then download and install the supported Linux HBA driver from the HP website http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html. Important information This section provides important information about using HBAs. Linux restrictions, page 7 Windows restrictions, page 8 Linux restrictions Presenting XP LUNs When presenting XP LUNs to a Linux host, the LUNs must start with LUN 0. Detecting LUNs with RHEL and Enterprise Virtual Arrays Systems running RHEL 3 (Update 6 or earlier), that are attached to Enterprise Virtual Arrays with HSV101 or HSV111 controllers may not detect all LUNs. To ensure that the system detects all LUNs, force a probe using the probe-luns script during system boot. To install and run the probe-luns script: 1. Change to the hp_fibreutils directory: #cd /opt/hp/hp_fibreutils/pbl 2. Enter the following command: #./pbl_inst.sh i The pbl_inst.sh script runs at each system boot. NOTE: Do not run the probe-luns script at system boot if your server detects all LUNs. To remove the probe-luns script, enter the following command: #cd /opt/hp/hp_fibreutils./pbl_inst.sh u QLogic host bus adapters for x86 and x64 Linux and Windows and x86 NetWare release notes 7

Windows restrictions WindowsrestrictionsforHBAsareasfollows: SANsurfer: You cannot disable an HBA port using Windows Device Manager when SANsurfer is installed and the SANsurfer agent is running. If you need to disable the port, stop the SANsurfer agent in the services window or uninstall SANsurfer. The EVA firmware revision displayed in SANsurfer may be incorrect due to an EVA bug. When EVA is configured in Windows host mode, the standard Inquiry data returns a constant firmware version number. Obtain the correct firmware version for the EVA via the SAN appliance command view. If running Windows Server 2003, SP1 or an x64 edition of Windows, in addition to using HP Secure Path, the entries for Event ID s 50, 26, or 57 may log to the system event. To address this issue please see MS Hotfix 912593atthewebsitehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/912593 and follow instructions in the resolution section of the document. On Windows Server 2003 systems, clients may be disconnected, generating Event ID 11 and Event ID 15 in the event log. This problem can occur under high-stress conditions if there is a SCSIPORT driver error. This problem can also cause network timeouts if remote computers access data on drives that use the SCSIPORT driver on a Windows Server 2003 system. To correct this problem, install the latest Microsoft QFE from the website http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;895573. On a Windows server, you can use SCSIPORT and Storport miniport drivers for HBAs from different vendors. However, on that server, all HBAs from a single vendor must operate exclusively with either all SCSIPORT miniport drivers or all Storport miniport drivers. For the FCA2214 HBA, the event log shows QL2300 Event ID 11 when you reboot one cluster node using the SCSIPORT miniport driver 9.1.0.13. An internal parity error occurs when dereferencing an invalid XmIocbList pointer in the following configurations: FCA2214 HBA on a Windows 2000 cluster HP ProLiant DL580 G2 servers MSA1000 with MSAHUB 2/3 To correct this problem, use the latest driver (Table 1). HP ProLiant DL380 (G4) servers must have Systems ROMPaq Firmware 4.05 P51-08/16/2005 or later to be compatible with the FC1142SR and FC1242SR HBAs. Failure to use this ROMPaq version can cause the HBAs to hang during the power-on self-test (POST). For detailed information, see http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23728.html. Storport miniport driver installation restrictions When upgrading to the Storport miniport driver from previous driver versions, consider the following: The Storport miniport driver is supported only on Windows 2003 and later. Before installing the Storport miniport driver, you must install a Microsoft QFE to update the storport.sys driver. See Table 2 on page 5 for details. On any given server, SCSIPORT and STORPORT miniport drivers from different vendors may be mixed across an HBA population. All HBAs from a single vendor must operate exclusively with either all SCSIPORT miniport drivers or all Storport miniport drivers. Smart Component restrictions The following Smart Component restrictions could occur during driver installation: When using the Smart Component to install drivers, if you observe the following message during reboot, ignore it and complete the reboot procedure. No known issue has been observed in connection with the display of this message. 8

The application failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down. When booting as a single-path boot device from a Modular Smart Array (MSA) directly attached through an I/O module to the HBA, you may lose connectivity temporarily to the boot LUN at the EFI driver level. If this occurs, restart the server. Temporary loss of connectivity only occurs during initial startup of the EFI driver and does not affect normal system operations. When using the Smart Component to install drivers, if you observe windows with the following information during reboot, click Finish, do not reply to Microsoft, and then complete the reboot procedure. No known issue has been observed in connection with the display of these messages. There was a problem installing this hardware. This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) Uninstall and then reinstall your device. Secure Path 4.0c SP1 restrictions With Secure Path 4.0c SP1, during a rolling driver upgrade, a blue-screen error may occur under any of the following conditions: The server boots from a SAN. All HBAs are accessing their LUNs in a single-path configuration. The HBA is directly attached in a single path to its own MSA controller. If the blue-screen error occurs, reboot the server and check the driver revisions to verify that the upgrade is complete on all HBAs. Upgrading to Secure Path 4.0c SP2 corrects this problem. Compatibility and interoperability The HBAs support the servers and switches described in "Devices supported" on page 3, and support the operating systems described in "Operating systems" on page 4. HP recommends that you implement zoning with HBAs, as described in the HP StorageWorks SAN design reference guide, available on the website http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/ storageworks/san/documentation.html. Determining the current version This section describes how to determine the HBA driver and firmware versions. Using SANsurfer To determine version information on Windows or Linux systems: 1. Open SANsurfer. 2. ClickanHBAintheleftpanetoselectit. 3. Click the Information tab in the right pane to view the HBA s version information. Using the Linux more command To determine version information on Linux systems enter the following more command: more /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/* Effective date January 2007 10
