Product overview DBE 4110 is an MPEG-2 encoder system devoted to Digital Satellite News Gathering, which performs high quality compression of video and audio sources and with integrated modulator capability. Key features: Quick and easy to set up Integrated modulator capability Unique compression efficiency Multiple-video chaining capability Low and ultra-low delay mode capability Scrambling capability Built-in extensions capability The DBE 4110 is a single service encoder, which performs the compression of video & audio sources. The availability of extensive, field replaceable/upgradable, hardware and software options allows tailoring the system in order to meet the individual requirements. The video source can be a SDI signal or a composite video source (PAL, SECAM or NTSC). Video compression is achieved as per the MPEG-2 MP@ML profile or the 4:2:2P@ML profile (option). A TS input option allows encoder cascading, and multiplexing of two (or more) services in the same output transport stream. Two stereo or four audio channels are processed, which can be de-embedded from the SDI stream or independent analog or AES/EBU audio sources (option). Audio compression is performed according to the ISO/IEC 11172-3 layer 2 standard. Options are offered for four additional stereo audio, data in RS-232 format and integrated modulator. The DBE 4110 has been designed as a 2 RU height, 19" sub-rack, easy to install and operate. It can be managed either from the front panel keypad or remotely from an Ethernet linked PC (Windows TM NT4 based) with the dedicated DSNG Fast Setup Software. Benefits Quick and easy to set up With 12 pre-set configurations and a management performed either from the menudriven front panel keypad or remotely through a PC running the Graphical User Interface DSNG Fast Setup application Software or the DBS2930 software, the DBE 4110 is quite easy to set up, configure and monitor. Integrated modulator capability (option) As an option the DBE 4110 can be fitted with a modulator for satellite transmission. With QPSK, 8PSK and 16QAM modulation formats, it provides an all-in-one encoder/modulator system, thus saving volume and weight and facilitating the system set up operation. Unique compression efficiency Thanks to its second generation Thomson chipset, designed in order to improve the performance encoding, the DBE 4110 encoder saves valuable bit rate for the same video quality, allowing in particular multiple-video transmission. Multiple-video chaining capability (option) Two encoders can be configured in chain for cascaded transmission of two services in one Transport Stream, typically in an 8 MHz bandwidth slot, thus enabling a cost effective satellite transmission of two services. As being DVB compliant, the second transport stream encoder may come from any encoder vendor as soon as it is DVB compliant. Low and ultra low delay mode capability Delays in live interviews between different locations can be optimised with the low delay mode option, providing less than 250 ms end-to-end delay, and now down to 140 ms with the ultra-low delay mode option. Scrambling capability DVB compliant common scrambling is provided as an option, in order to preserve the content and the access, as may be required for instance for postproduction privacy. In the near future, DVB-DSNG scrambling will be also implemented. Built-in extension capability With the provision of hardware and software options, the DBE4110 can be customised and upgraded to meet specific requirements at minimum implementation complexity and cost. p. 3 of 10

The front panel menu-driven interface allows to select the proper video input (SDI, PAL, etc) and the profile (4:2:2P@ML or 4:2:0MP@ML), to control the transmission parameters and to recall, store or erase up to 12 pre-set configurations. Also controlled through the encoder front panel interface are the basic parameters of the encoder (alarm and bit rate monitoring, reboot, delay mode, scrambling mode) and, on option, the modulator parameters (carrier mode, FEC, etc), The provisioning server allows the same management functions from a location through an Ethernet link, running the DSNG Fast Setup dedicated software. Owing to its Graphical User Interface, the DSNG Fast Setup provisioning software allows to quickly manage the system components (encoder, modulator) and to display alarms and input/output content (services, components, bit rate). It offers also solutions for maintenance actions: reboot, set device in maintenance status, get serial number of the software release.
