3. Disconnect cables including power cord. 4. Pull gently on both sides of the front panel and remove. 5. Press the eject buttons on the disk cartridges. 6. Gently slide each disk cartridge out of the slot. Avoid touching the exposed connector at the back of the disk cartridge. Static electricity can damage the electronics inside the disk cartridge. Note: Be careful to minimize contact between the disk cartridges and the chassis. Page 2 of 11

7. Place the disk cartridges on a well-padded, anti-static surface. Do NOT stack disk cartridges. Disk cartridges can be damaged by even a slight bump. Extreme care must be taken at all times when handling the disk cartridges, especially when inserting, removing, placing on a surface, or when cleaning. Failure to observe precautions can result in damage to the drive and loss of content. 8. Cut through the warranty sticker with a knife. 9. Remove rack ears from chassis. Page 3 of 11

10. Remove two screws from each side of the chassis and set aside. 11. Remove the seven screws on the top of the chassis lid. 12. Slide the lid towards the front of the chassis and lift to remove. Clean the Disk Cartridges and Chassis 1. Wipe the inside of the chassis lid clean. Page 4 of 11

2. Vacuum the grill on top of the drive cage. 3. Vacuum the inside of the drive cage with small, soft dusting brush attachment. Be careful to avoid touching the connectors inside the drive cage. 4. Vacuum the front panel, front and back. Be sure to clean the front grill. 5. Use canned air to blow air through each fan from behind. Page 5 of 11

6. Use canned air to clean the circuit board. Hold the can at least 6 in. from the board and blow air out the chassis rear vents. 7. Blow canned air across the power supply, blow air out the rear vents. Remove Power Supply 1. Attach ESD wristband or provide other ESD protection while performing these procedures. 2. Cut the cable tie that binds the four-wire power supply cable that runs directly to the main board. Page 6 of 11

3. Release the locking mechanism and disconnect connector from the power supply to the main board. 4. Release the locking mechanisms and remove the 2 12 power connector from the power supply to the power controller board. If needed, use a flat head screwdriver to remove this connector. Page 7 of 11

5. Remove the 2 wire power connector (from the AC inlet) under the rubber shield. 6. Remove the four screws attaching the power supply to the chassis. Note: Some power supplies are mounted front to back, some side to side. 7. Lift out power supply. Replace the Power Supply 1. Install the new power supply. Align the holes on the power supply with the chassis mount. Note: Be careful not to damage the SATA cable running from the backplane to the SATA controller. Page 8 of 11

2. Replace screws, screw onto the chassis finger tight. 3. Connect the 2 12 connector from the power supply to the power controller board. 4. Connect the connector from the power supply to the main board. Page 9 of 11

5. Connect the two-wire power connector (to the AC inlet) under the rubber shield. 6. Bundle the cable from the power supply to the main board and the USB cable from the power controller board to the main board with the new cable tie. Be sure the cable tie runs through the small metal loop on the bottom of the chassis. 7. Verify that all connectors are completely locked in place and secure. 8. Cut off excess length of cable tie. Reattach Chassis Lid and Reinstall Disk Cartridges 1. Align the chassis lid. Slide the lid back and into place. 2. Replace screws on the top and sides. 3. Replace rack ears. 4. Connect the power cord and front panel without installing disk cartridges. 5. Power on the server to verify that the power supply lights the front panel. Then DISCONNECT the power cord and remove front panel. Page 10 of 11

6. Verify that the latch on the disk cartridge, the gray plastic wedge that extends from the top of the cartridge, works properly. The latch is designed to retract when the Kaleidescape logo (or white button on a blank) is pressed, and to pop up and engage with the chassis when a disk cartridge is inserted. If the latch sticks in the retracted position the disk cartridge does not lock in place and cannot operate properly. 7. Reinstall disk cartridges. Align the disk cartridge to the slot correctly. The latch goes to the left with status lights to the right. 8. Push firmly but gently in the middle of the cartridge until the cartridge clicks into place. Do NOT slam the cartridge in. 9. Replace front panel and reconnect power cord and network cable. Kaleidescape Support For additional information, contact Kaleidescape Support. Be prepared to supply the serial number of the 1U Server. Send an email message to support@kaleidescape.com. Call the support line at +1 (650) 625-6160. Page 11 of 11
