ESD SAFETY! icracked likes to stay on the safe side of repairs, and by using ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safe tools and equipment, you can be sure to avoid static damage to your mobile device. ESD damage is difficult to diagnose as its effect isn t usually immediately apparent, but sensitive sections of the logic board can nevertheless get weakened by static, and in turn become non-functional over time. Whether you are replacing a touch screen digitizer or an LCD screen, doing your repair with ESD safety in mind can save the long-term circuitry and functionality of your device.

TOOLS AND PARTS Tools Required: Parts Needed: ESD safe tweezers ESD safe #00 Phillips screwdriver iphone Pentalobe screwdriver Metal spudger Suction cup ESD safe tweezers Replacement Display Assembly Optional: iphone 5 series opening tool isclack opening tool

WARNING! Take every care possible to NOT damage the home button/fingerprint scanner cable. The fingerprint ID scanner is locked to its original iphone, meaning this CAN NOT be replaced. The home button will function, but the fingerprint scan will never function again.

IMPORTANT! Before working on any ios device, make sure to test all of the functions that are described in the itech app. Power off the device before performing any repairs! If you have any questions before starting a repair, contact your itech manager or use the SOS button in the itech app.

REPAIR PREP Using a piece of paper (preferably a Post-it note) slid under each corner and down the left and right sides. If the paper slides under the corner, that area is damaged. It is highly recommended you decline this repair. If you proceed with this repair the customer must understand we will offer no warranty on the part used as it will become an issue in the future. Note: The most common area to be bent is at the Volume down button and the SIM card tray. Good Good Bad Corner Good

REPAIR PREP Use the itech application to complete the Pre-Repair checklist. This checklist must be completed and verified by the customer prior to starting the repair. The pre-repair checklist is your way of providing proof of what did or did not function prior to repair, which is why its so important to use the app and have the customer verify and sign. NOTE: An easy way to test the proximity sensor is activate voice control and start talking. If you place a finger over the ambient light sensor hole just above ear speaker grill, the screen should go dim.

REPAIR PREP Because the home button can only be used when the display assembly is installed, it s a good idea to turn on Assistive Touch before powering down the iphone. Enable Assistive Touch on your device: To enable Assistive Touch on your device: Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > Slide to ON.

POWER DOWN TO BEGIN Hold the power/sleep button down until slide to power off shows up on the screen. Slide the arrow from left to right. If the digitizer is not functioning: Power off the iphone by holding down both the power/sleep button and the home button. Continue holding down as the Apple logo appears until the screen goes black. If the power button does not function: Using assistive touch, touch the white bubble > Device > press and hold Lock Screen until the slide to power off drops down, and then slide the arrow from left to right.

1 Display Removal Remove the two 3.6mm Pentalobe screws next to the lightning port connector using a Pentalobe screwdriver. QTY MATERIAL 2 4.0 mm Pentalobe screw

2 Opening Tool Place the iphone 5S into the iphone 5 series opening tool (isclack) or use a suction cup onto the screen like the original iphone 5. NOTE: If the screen is shattered, place 2 to 3 pieces of packing tape over the shattered glass to form a flat suction surface.

3 Lift Screen Squeeze the handles of the isclack tool to open. Remove the isclack from the iphone 5S by removing the suction cups from the glass and back of the frame.

IMPORTANT! The home button flex cable on the iphone 5S has a flex cable that is attached to the lightning port flex cable and covered in a protective cowling cover. Be EXTREMELY careful when lifting the display assembly. If you force the assembly above 1 ¼ you will tear this flex cable.

4 Angle the Screen GENTLY angle the iphone 5S screen to the right as shown.

5 Disconnect Cowling Cover The home button flex cable is held to the connector behind the lightning port and secured with a cowling cover. Disconnect the cowling cover using the pointed end of the nylon spudger by simply lifting up on the left corner of the bottom edge.

6 Cowling Cover The cowling cover will pop upward as shown.

7 Remove Cowling Cover Remove the top half of the cowling cover using tweezers.

8 Home Button Flex Cable Using the pointed end of the nylon spudger, disconnect the home button flex cable from the connector behind the lightning port.

9 Lift Display Assembly CAUTION: Do not try to completely remove the display assembly from the frame! There are three flex cables still attached to the top of the iphone, and removing the display assembly at this stage can destroy them. Once the clips have been released on the bottom and sides of the display assembly, lift the bottom of the display assembly away from the rear case until it forms a 90-degree angle.

10 Remove Screws NOTE: While disconnecting the battery, you will have to hold the display assembly upward with one hand, while removing the screws and retaining plate with the other hand. Locate the battery retaining plate and remove the two 1.6mm Phillips screws that hold the lower plate in place using a #00 Phillips screwdriver. QTY MATERIAL 2 1.6 mm Phillips screws
