A Look Under the Hood at the Roco Crane Functions See Macro Appendix M see Engine Profile To find out what each Roco Crane function does, click on any item above that is enclosed in a red box and you will be taken to the section that explains it all. Click on the option at the end of each section to return to this page Caution: Check that your crane has the same power on/reset defaults shown with the blue text and blue Flagman indicators by manually controlling the crane before using the above Train Window. Please note this is an advanced topic. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rossstew/rms/marklin.html 4
Engine Profile for the Roco Crane Profile Method I profiled the Roco Crane to get a threshold speed using the following procedure. I wired two pushbuttons to spare s88 contacts that I had, switching to Ground. With the boom raised I rotated the crane to set the threshold speed. Then with a pushbutton in each hand I started the profiling using momentary contacts. As the crane rotated 180 deg. I pushed the pushbutton that was at the boom end, the crane run-out ran a little further then the crane reversed after 4 seconds, as it became parallel to the wagon I pushed the same pushbutton again then waited for it to rotate 180 deg and pushed the other button that was at the boom end and repeated the process for all speed steps. Using my Roco Crane profile should be fine for testing. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rossstew/rms/marklin.html 5

Toggle Command (CMD) In the Assign Engine Functions the Toggle CMD is a Push Button with Decoder Number L/F0 Flags and Pushbutton shown in an Off state Flags and Pushbutton shown in an On state Roco Toggle Command F0 Push Button Important Note: - The F0 toggle command has to have a controlled On/Off period as this ensures the correct crane function (Rotate, Boom, Hook and Aux) is selected. The system response must have time to respond to this F0 (Lights Off) command. Macro s Roco x1, Roco x2 and Roco x3 control the time duration. Under normal circumstances the user shouldn t use this command at all as it is used as a visual confirmation that the F0 (Lights Off) command has been transmitted to the crane via the Toggle command On/Off flags associated to the Roco Crane Block. Bonus Time If you have the 46900 Roco Crane (Marklin Version) and would like to enter the information into your_layout.yrr I have outlined some procedures below. Warning: - Copying rms_roco_crane_210111.yrr will take an experienced user 2.5-3 hours to complete. I know this because I copied the Roco Crane information to my friends *.yrr to prove that it could be done. Because this is an advanced topic the procedures below are an outline only of what you will have to do. TIP: - Copying data from one *.yrr file to another *.yrr file To do this process you must start another TrainController (you will have two TrainController s running) and resize both windows so they are side by side. rms_roco_crane_210111.yrr should be open in the left side TrainController and your_layout.yrr is open in the right TrainController. In the left TrainController window select the items required in a window then hit Ctrl + C to copy items. In the right TrainController LMC (left mouse click) the location you want to place the items and Hit Ctrl + V to paste items. Do another LMC away from any other item in the right TrainController to finally place the items in your_layout.yrr Copy Procedure Outline 1. Create a new Switchboard in your_layout.yrr named Function Cars. 2. Import the Engine named rms_roco_crane.yrl (supplied file) into your_layout.yrr. 3. Using New Explorer windows copy all macro s. Please note you won t get the complete macros but it is a good start to avoid typing errors and the structure AND/OR remains correct. 4. Copy all switchboard switches, flagman and text. 5. Check all switch properties and make any required changes. 6. Fix Blue Flagman to required switches and check all properties. 7. Fix Green and Yellow Flagman to required switches and check all properties. 8. Fix Red Flagman to required switches and check all properties. 9. Using the Block Editor delete all flags and reinsert the required Flagman for Block Roco Crane. 10. Correct all Roco macro s (see appendix M ) 11. Edit the Engine Roco Crane and fix list operations (accessories and macro s). 12. Enjoy controlling your Roco Crane with ease. As always enjoy your model trains. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rossstew/rms/marklin.html 49
