Agenda - What is RAVE - Prerequisites - Download and Import of Visualizations in Active Report library - Implementation of Visualization in Active Reports 3
What is RAVE: - RAVE is Rapidly Adaptive Visualization Engine. The RAVE technology is not based upon pre-defined chart types but rather on a visualization language (visjson) and uses the Grammar of Graphics approach to describe and define new visualizations. - RAVE technology brings the Visualizations capabilities to the Cognos BI Report Author which unleash report authors from a standard library of charts. Visualization types are rendered using the Rapidly Adaptive Visualization Engine (RAVE). 4
Advantages of Visualization in Active Reports : Using an extensible visualization in an Active Report provides a number of advantages over the existing static charts that are used today. - Animation from filtering the data in the visualization using a variety of transition effects provides a visual cue to the user of the change that occurred. - Since the data for extensible visualizations is rendered by the Active Report, the author can define the behavior of the visualization similar to what is available for other data controls today. - Data can be filtered and/or selected based on actions that the user does in the Active Report. 5
Prerequisites - Visualizations can be applied from IBM Cognos 10.2.1 onwards. - If Microsoft Internet Explorer is used to view visualizations, then Microsoft Silverlight 5 must be installed on the computer. Firefox or ipad users do not need Silverlight. 6
Download and Import Visualization Download Visualizations Visualizations for Active Reports can be downloaded from the following site : https://www.analyticszone.com/homepage/web/visualizationsdownload.action Download and save the Line (straight) Visualization to the file-system location accessible to the Report Author. 7

Visualization in Active Report contd.. Drag <Sales Region> from the Sales Staff Query Subject to the Data Check Box Group: 20
Visualization in Active Report contd.. We will now define the behavior such that data on the Line Chart Visualization will be filtered with the value(s) chosen for the Sales Region : - On the Data Check Group click on the Interactive Behavior icon to define the interactive behavior 21
Visualization in Active Report contd.. On the Interactive Behavior Window click on Create a New Connection link to define the behavior 22
