1 Introduction 1 Introduction This document describes the Intel Setup and Configuration Service Lite (Intel SCS Lite). The Intel SCS Lite enables you to automatically configure Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) systems. For information about the known issues, see Known Issues on page 3. Table 1. Version Details Category Value Version Intel SCS Lite 6.0 Intel AMT Systems Operating Systems (Service and Console) Intel AMT 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, 6.0 Windows* XP Professional SP2 (all x32/x64 versions) Windows Server* 2003 (all x32/x64 versions) Windows 7 Professional (all x32/x64 versions) Windows Vista* (all x32/x64 versions) 1.1 Version Description Version 6.0 is distributed as two separate installation packages: Intel SCS Intel SCS Lite (this package) The following table provides a summary of the main differences between Intel SCS Lite and Intel SCS. 1 Introduction Table 2. Intel SCS Lite and Intel SCS Comparison (Continued) Feature Intel SCS Lite Intel SCS SQL Database Uses an XML file. No database installation is required. Configuration using TLS-PSK Remote Configuration Define users and privileges for Intel SCS Console/API tasks, but not including bare metal configuration. The Intel SCS Lite does not listen for Hello messages. 1.2 Version Contents This version (Intel SCS Lite) includes the following: Service The Windows service (SCSServer.exe) that processes the configuration/un-configuration requests sent from the Activator utility or the Console. The configuration is determined by a configuration profile stored in the database. The Service writes log messages to a file named SCSLog.log. Database The Intel SCS Lite stores data in the following xml files: profile.xml Profile data. vprostorage.xml PSK pairs. The files are located in the following folder of the user running the Service: \Application Data\Intel_Corporation\AMTConfService Note: Use the Console to edit and update the information in the database. Do not manually edit the XML files. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) The Application Programming Interface (API) used by applications to interact with the Service. Console An application that uses the WMI API to communicate with the Service. You can install and run the Console from any computer in the network that has access to the computer running the Service. The Console includes context sensitive help that opens to the relevant section when you click? in the title bars of the Console wizards. For more information, see the Intel SCS Lite Installation and User Guide. Intel vpro Technology Activator Utility You run this application on the Intel AMT systems to quickly initiate and send configuration and un-configuration requests to the Intel SCS Lite. For more information, see the Intel vpro TM Technology Activator Utility Release Notes and User Guide. Intel SCS Lite Release Notes 2
2 New Features and Changes 2 New Features and Changes This is the first release of the Intel SCS Lite. 3 Known Issues The following table describes known issues with the Intel SCS Lite version 6.0. Table 3. Known Issues Internal Tracking Number Description Impact / Solution Component: Installation 2840001 The installation wizard cannot install the Intel SCS components if the Visual Studio application is open. 2839993 If the WMI service is stopped, the installation wizard might stop responding and give no indication for the reason. 2839986 Uninstalling the Console does not delete the configuration profile XML files. (A new installation of the Console on the same computer will recognize the profiles.) 2837726 The Intel SCS installation generates three WinMgmnt warnings (event ID 5603) in the Windows event viewer. For more information, refer to http://www.intel.com/support/network/ sb/cs-028928.htm Ensure that the Visual Studio application is closed before starting the installation. Start the WMI and restart the installation wizard. Delete the files manually. Ignore the warnings. The Intel SCS uses the LocalSystem account and properly impersonates user requests. 3 Known Issues Table 3. Known Issues (Continued) Internal Tracking Number Description Impact / Solution Component: Service 2840033 The Service cannot configure an Intel AMT system using TLS-PSK if the system s key contains a PID that appears in the database more than once (with a different PPS). 2840026 The Service fails to configure Intel AMT systems and returns an error: Certificate request failed with error - 2146893811: Key does not exist. This occurs because the Service does not support certificate templates whose minimum supported CA is Windows Server 2008 (Version 3). 2839517 After the service is restarted, invoking Get or Delete methods from the API can cause the calling application to stop responding because the Service does not return a value. 2839115 If KVM Redirection settings are defined in a configuration profile and they cannot be implemented on the Intel AMT system, no error message is displayed. When importing TLS-PSK keys (or installing keys on Intel AMT systems), ensure that no PSK pairs use the same PID with a different PPS. Make a duplicate of the certificate template, and from the Duplicate Template window, select Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. Invoke the Enumerate method before invoking Get/Delete. KVM Redirection settings cannot be enabled if KVM is disabled in the Intel AMT system s MEBx. 2837848 2837960 You can not create or delete new WMI class instances via WS-Man. Use WMI to communicate with the Intel SCS. 2837365 After starting the Intel SCS, the first WMI call always fails with an exception. Ignore the first WMI call. Component: Console 2839235 If the Service is restarted while the Console is open, the Console sometimes stops responding when trying to view or delete profiles. Click the refresh button.
