The MK6i RF Mouse Module requires MPJ/Display firmware version 1.11.0 or later on a monochrome display or version 2.1.0 or later on the color MPJ+. The new Invacare RF Mouse Module is an accessory that can be ordered with new power wheelchairs, or added to existing power wheelchairs using MK6i electronics and an expandable (4 drive mode) system. Standard features include both PC and Mac emulation. The RFM module allows the user to use the wheelchair driver control to control a computer mouse or access assistive communications devices equipped with a USB input port. This feature utilizes radio frequency technology. When the feature is combined with an on-screen keyboard, the user has access to virtually all standard software programs. Mouse Emulation provides full functionality when using either a three or four quadrant driver control. 2.2 Terms and Definitions Radio Frequency (RF) Radio Frequency refers to the technology that transmits and receives signals using radio frequencies. It is this technology used by the MK6i Mouse Emulation feature. (Frequency is 2.4 MHz). Four Quadrant Driver Control This type of driver control, provides the user access to all 4 directions (forward, left, right, and reverse), in either a proportional (analog) or switch (digital) device. The MK6i Compact Joystick and MK6i MPJ+ Joystick are examples of a 4-quadrant proportional control. The Sip-n-Puff control and AbleNet Wafer Board are examples of a 4-quadrant digital control. Three Quadrant Driver Control This type of driver control provides the user access to all 4 directions even though they can control only three quadrants or 3 driving commands, typically only forward, left, and right. To access reverse direction, the wheelchair is programmed with RIM ON and a switch is used allowing the forward drive command to toggle between the forward and reverse directions. PC PC is an acronym for Personal Computer and can be a desktop or a laptop. The MK6i Mouse Emulation feature will work with any PC running Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Vista, Mac OS and any PC that supports a USB Mouse. Mac Mac is an acronym used for an Macintosh Operating System by Apple Computer, Inc. X-10 A home automation system that uses individual modules to turn on/off electrical appliances/lights plugged into standard 110 volt Dongle wall outlets. The Invacare IR/Mouse Module can control up to eight X-10 modules through an infrared X-10 converter such as a Powerhouse or Infrared Mini Controller, both available commercially. The X-10 Infrared commands (ON/ OFF) need to be learned. Dongle The dongle refers to the hardware device that plugs into the USB port on the PC and communicates to MK6i electronics using Radio Frequency (RF) technology. Part No 1167504 3 MK6i RFM Module
3 Mouse Emulation Setup, Programming and Usage 3.1 Hardware Installation The Mouse Emulation uses two devices, the MK6i RF Mouse Module and Dongle. The MK6i RF Mouse Module is connected to the MK6i Network using the cable attached to the RF Mouse Module. (See section 3.1). The Dongle is plugged into the computers USB port. 3.2 Mouse Initialization The MK6i RF Mouse and Dongle are uniquely linked allowing multiple users to be in the same area without interference. Perform the following if link needs to be reestablished: 1. To establish this link, ensure the Dongle is plugged into the computer and the computer is then powered-up. 2. Ensure the wheel chair is turned off and plug a switch (1/8 mono or stereo) into the Input port of the MK6i RF Module. 3. Press the (small) button on the Dongle; the LED on the Dongle should start to blink. 4. Hold the switch in the RF Mouse Module closed and power up the wheelchair for 2 seconds and then release the switch. The Dongle s LED should stop blinking and turn green for a moment to indicate that the link has been established. 3.3 Mouse Emulation Programming The MK6i Driver control used with an expandable system can be programmed to use the mouse in any drive. All programming for mouse control is in the Performance Adjust menu. 1. Turn the programmer on. 2. Scroll down to and select PERFORMANCE ADJUST. 3. Scroll down to MOUSE, scroll right to desired drive (D1, D2, D3, D4) and press Select. 4. Choose one of the following: 4-QUAD (generally used with 4-quadrant joysticks) and press Select 3-QUAD (generally used with 3-quadrant head controls) and press Select. 5. Press Save, then press Save again. 4-QUAD (4 - Quadrant) Allows four quadrants of the driver control to operate the mouse in four directions, (up, down, left, right). Typically used with Standard Joystick Operation. Requires a dedicated switch for Mouse Click(s) or use of Dwell Software if switch access is unobtainable. MK6i RFM Module 4 Part No 1167504
3-QUAD (3 - Quadrant) Forward Command - Toggles between Mouse UP and Mouse Down. Right Command - Toggles between Mouse Left and Mouse Right. Left Command - Single hit for single Mouse Click, two hits for Double Click, press and hold for Mouse Latch (single hit to unlatch/release). No additional switch required for Mouse Click(s), uses left driver command. Typically used with Head Controls where only 3 driving commands are available. Also used with chin controls, Sip-n-Puff joysticks and mini joysticks when switch access for mouse click is unobtainable. 3 Quadrant always operates as above - even when proportional joysticks are set in 3 Quadrant Mode. DIGITAL MOUSE SETTINGS PARAMETER SWITCH DELAY DRAG LATCH TIME BASE SPEED HIGH SPEED DELAY HIGH SPEED FACTOR DESCRIPTION Allows a delay from switch activation to switch recognition. The mouse will not respond until the driver control has been active for a set time. This parameter is enabled when the value is not zero and is typically used with 3-Quadrant controls. This allows a sustained left command to latch an icon/graphic handle, and then use right and forward commands to re-position the icon/handle. This is a percentage of the mouse speed and sets the mouse speed for digital driver controls. Used with very slow base speeds. Parameter determines the delay for the mouse speed to ramp up to a higher speed. If the parameter is zero, the mouse speed does not ramp up. Used with High Speed Delay to increase mouse speed movement when moving cursor across the PC desktop. Choices are NONE, 2X, 4X and 8X. Part No 1167504 5 MK6i RFM Module
Mouse Axis When any driver control is set into 3-Quadrant mode, Mouse Axis becomes available in the PERFORMANCE ADJUSTMENT menu allowing driver control directions to be re-assigned to specific mouse functions. PERFORMANCE ADJUSTMENT MOUSE AXIS FORWARD REVERSE LEFT RIGHT CHOICES FOR EACH QUADRANT Vertical Mouse movement, Horizontal Mouse movement, Left Click, Right Click Application If any 4-quadrant driver control is set to 3-quadrant mouse operation, the unused REVERSE command can be programmed for Right Mouse Click. True 3-quadrant driver controls (i.e., ASL Head Array) can have mouse functions reassigned (i.e., Forward command for muse click, left and right commands for mouse movement). Mouse axis re-assignment does not change driving axis selections (driving axis assignment selected in separate performance adjustment). Using the Mouse Emulator To use the Mouse Emulator with a mouse set to 4-QUAD: 1. Enter the Mouse Mode depicted by the icon (monochrome joystick) or the icon (color MPJ+ joystick). 2. Use the driver control to move the mouse cursor on the computer. 3. Use a switch plugged into the IR/Mouse Module to issue a left mouse click. If a stereo switch is in place, one switch operates a left mouse click, the other operates a right mouse click. If a user does not have the ability to use a switch for mouse click operation, several Dwell Click software programs are available for purchase and download. Refer to Freeware Dwell Click Software Programs: on page 7. To use the Mouse Emulator with a mouse set to 3-QUAD: 1. Enter the Mouse Mode depicted by the icon (monochrome joystick) or the icon (color MPJ+ joystick). 2. Use the right driver command to move the mouse horizontally, toggling between left and right. The mouse changes horizontal direction with each successive right driver command. 3. The forward driver command moves the mouse vertically, toggling between up and down. The mouse changes vertical direction with each successive forward driver command. 4. The left driver command emulates clicking the left mouse button. A sustained left command will select an icon or type an insertion point to allow for dragging. A second left command will deselect. MK6i RFM Module 6 Part No 1167504
